Ferengi Shot Glass
Posted by terrepruitt on March 5, 2011
Do you collect anything? My husband collects shot glasses. He has them from all over. ALL over . . . . . . even space. This one is probably from the furthest away. This is a shot glass from Ferenginar 🙂 . Ferengi is from the Star Trek Empire.
You might be able to see it is made up of two pieces. The metal piece made up of rings that hold the glass “shot glass” portion. It is a fun design. I guess it is perfect for off world shot taking. I don’t know if he has ever drank out of it. Now that I think about it is quite funny. He collects shot glasses, but he doesn’t really drink shots. He does like to buy a shot glasses from places we have been. So it is the collecting of the item that brings him pleasure. It is a bonus if the shot glass is cool or unusual.
Because I started this blog to promote Nia, my Nia classes, and grow in my Nia practice by writing and posting about it, I always have Nia in the back of my mind when I am writing a post. Even if it has nothing to do with Nia, like this one. It is about collecting, it is to share picture of this particular shot glass. But as I was typing the part about my husband collecting shot glass because it makes him happy, it brings him pleasure I thought of a comparison to Nia.
The similarity is that he doesn’t really like to drink shots, a person could not really like to workout or exercise. My hubby likes to buy shot glasses, it brings him pleasure, Nia is a dance, if you like to dance it brings pleasure. If the shot glass is cool or unusual it is better, Nia is cool, it is unusual, it is different. The fact that John doesn’t really drink shots doesn’t mean that it is not nice to have shot glasses around in case he wants one so he gets the benefits of owning them. Nia doesn’t really FEEL like exercise because the participants are involved in a movement that bring pleasure, but since we are moving in all different ways, up down, around, fast, slow, and engaging so many body parts and muscles it IS a workout. You DO receive benefits as you do when you do traditional exercise.
Funny how things can be connected. Funny how things can be collected. Do you collect anything? What?

Dust. I collect dust. I’m not a very consistent (or even good for that matter) housekeeper. So, I collect dust. And then I like to deplete my collection every so often and start all over again.
I absolutely love this blog Terre. The fact that your husband collects shot glasses and the fact that this particular one is from Star Trek brings a huge grin upon my face (I love Star Trek). Your husband is an amazing man…of course he has to be – he married you!
I love the connection to Nia, too. I do that with my blogs as well. Sometimes it may appear that what I’m blogging about is not Nia-related, but in my estimation since Nia is about Dancing Through Life, then Nia is connected to EVERYTHING in my life.
You’re amazing.
Love,
Jill

You made me laugh. I don’t want to take a picture of his whole collection because you wouldn’t be able to see it under the dust. But that particular collection of dust is his responsibility, not mine. I have enough collected dust of my own.
I am happy you love this post. John has been bugging me for a week or two to write it and I couldn’t figure out how I could put it on my blog. Then I just decided to do it even if I couldn’t relate it to health, wellness, Nia, exercise or anything. Then as I was typing it I thought of that comparision.
You are correct Nia is about Dancing Through Life and with that it can be related to so many things. I see the connection, but sometimes I feel challenged when trying to post about it.
Thank you, Nia Sister! XOXOX

Thanks for writing this one hon. As a avid watcher of Quark on DS9, I never saw this shot glass being used in the series. When I saw it at the Star Trek Experience though, I still had to have it. Since then, I’ve Googled for it a number of times to show other Star Trek people the glass and have been amazed that it never made general circulation so now people who search for it have at least one photo to see 🙂
And to the world I say that it is true, I do not drink shots. Laugh all you want, but do not come between me and the Blood Wine! 😉

In general you don’t drink shots, but sometimes you do, right?
Nice, Love. Thank for the comment. I see it.
I am sure the Star Trek Experience that was in Las Vegas had a lot of merchandise that was not used in any of the serieses, but they made them Star Trek items. Thanks again for commenting!

Sometimes you like tequila shots–Petrone, right? I am usually surprised when you do them, but sometimes you DO do them.
Do you “shoot” saki? I thought you sipped saki? Or clean engines with it.

I have shot tequila many times before. In my defense, the tequila pulled a knife on me.

Nia is cool and different and relaxing…much like the effect if one actually did take a shot…I said a shot not three or five!

I typed “You are funny.” on a different comment you made, but this one made me laugh out loud.
Too funny. I don’t want to agree because I don’t want people to think of Nia as a “drug”, but it is very relaxing, yet at the same time energizing!
I am still giggling!

I collect Superman toys/clothes (for my husband) and some music related things for myself. After acquiring 3 drum sets, and 4 guitars I finally decided to learn how to play.
Nia sounds like a fun way to exercise. I’d like to add it the program I’m using through Real Life for Health. Have you heard of them? Their system is really easy to use and it does everything. They have 1000’s of different recipes to choose from and they help you build a fitness and nutrition plan that suits your goals. They even send you printable daily meal plans and menus, as well as printable daily or weekly grocery lists, which are broken down by the area of the grocery store or supermarket. I’m happy that there’s no fad diets, pills, or required supplements. I’m really impressed with it, especially since they offer a free trial.

My hubby has a T-shirt collection too. He does have some Superhero stuff too. I collect stuff too. Three drum sets would take up a lot of room.

I bought a pair of these shot glasses at the Star Trek Experience and one was broken several years ago. I’ve searched in vain for a replacement…. event the few conical shot glasses I do find are not as long and perfect as these. I kept the base and still hope to replace the glass one day. Found this blog post in my search tonight and it’s the first reference I’ve ever seen to the this cool ST merchandise.
Cheers!

My husband would like more too. We can’t find them either. I am sure that they will be one of those things that are happened upon at a garage sale. Ya know how that is? You’ll be driving down the street one day and see a garage sale and even though you don’t need anything and you didn’t see anything as you were driving by you’ll stop, you’ll look around half-heartedly, you’ll be ready to leave and a glint of sun off of glass will momentarily blind you. You’ll blink, approach the area from where the glare came and then you’ll see the glasses. I bet that is the only way they can be found.
Good luck. If you ever find some and think about it, let me know. If we ever find some I am sure I will be posting about it.
Cheers to you too!

My husband accidently broke my Ferengi shot glass, that was exact to that picture. I got it 6 yrs ago at the Star Trek exibit in Las Vegas at the Hilton. The exibit is now closed. Does anyone know where i can get a replacement? It was my favorite out of 160 glasses in my collection

Melanie – I am so sorry. That is a big bummer, but I did notice you said “husband” and not EX-husband, so that is a good sign. 😉
I don’t know where you get them. But everyone that sees my post is under strict orders to report back here if they find ’em. We all would like to get ’em again. If I ever find them, I’ll let you know and since yours was broken I’ll let you have first dibs, just don’t tell MY husband or I’ll be his ex-wife! LOL!
Keep an eye out!

My boyfriend’s shotglass suffered the same fate, Melanie. The movers shattered his. I’ve been trying to find a new one, but I’m not having much luck. He, too, got it from that same convention.

Oh Raccoon! I am so sorry that the movers broke the glasses. I mean it is one thing to break them while using them or washing them after use, but to have them break because of carelessness. BUMMER!
Well, join the pact, if you find them let us know. I think we’ve all agreed (after we’ve secured some for ourselves, of course!) 😉
