Meant To Be Together

My friend had asked me if I had any plans for Valentine’s Day.  I replied that I have a yoga class that evening so we wouldn’t be going out and asked her about her plans, she explained that it was her wedding anniversary a couple of days ago which reminded her of a funny story. She had went to the store to buy her husband an anniversary card. A couple of days later she went to look for the card, but did not find it in her usual “card hiding spot”. While she was doing something else she happened to look up and see the card on the bookshelf. So she took it off the shelf and signed it. Later that day she was out and her husband texted her and asked her if she had taken the card that was on the bookshelf and she said yes. She had actually forgotten that when she was at the store she didn’t end up buying the card she had picked out. But the card her husband had purchased for her was the same card. So she had thought she had bought it and put in on the bookshelf – although that was not her usually hiding place.  She ended up giving him the card he bought her!

I thought that was so funny for so many reasons. I know that I have looked at cards and thought I had purchased them only to find out I hadn’t. I sometimes buy cards and misplace them. I know that multiple times my husband and I have purchased the same card and given it to each other twice. In some cases the sentiment was the same but the card maker had added a different picture. I am not sure if we have purchased the same card for each other, but I think we might have. But I know we have not used one another purchased cards. HA! So funny.

Do you have any funny card giving or receiving stories?

We’ve been married over 40 years and stopped buying cards for one another years ago largely because my husband would buy such awful cards, usually from the supermarket or garage. He only used to buy cards for me while I purchased ones for him and everyone else. I take my time trying to find appropriate cards which I keep in my card box until the event I purchased it for. He has no idea I have a card box!

    • Oh, if that works for you. I am a card person. A card is REQUIRED for all occasions. My husband is a great card buying, but he even writes sweet stuff in it. I just buy a card and sign it, I am not good to adding what the card already says. The card I bought says what I wanted to say . . . I’m not good adding to it, but my hubby is. I need a card box! I just stash them places I think he won’t look or see, then sometimes I forget I put them there. Or they sit on my desk and get lost in the mess! Thanks for sharing!

    • It made me laugh. I also thought it was funny that both of them “hid” cards in common areas. I mean, I don’t hide my husbands cards in the kitchen or living room, I hide them in a place he doesn’t go or look.

  3. Heh, that’s a funny story.

My card story is more about timing. Last year on our anniversary, my husband and I both discovered that we’d bought each other anniversary cards way early. Our anniversary is in October. I thought I had gotten it really early, in May of that year, but he got one for me in December of the previous year. And we even kept track of them (and hid them from each other) while moving!
