About

Terre Pruitt is a Certified Nia White Belt* and a Licensed Nia Teacher.

A couple of years ago I was sitting on the couch and I made a comment, like I had always done, about being fat or out of shape (I don’t even remember what I said). My husband must have been sick of hearing it because he said, “Why don’t you do something about it?” —-ARGH!!!— For once he was right. Why did I just complain about it and never do anything? So, I bought a Turbo Jam DVD and have been working out every since.

As I started working out I realized that people need to move. Our bodies were made to move. The saying, “Use it or lose it” applies to movement, strength, balance, agility, all that stuff that goes along with our bodies. So I decided that I wanted to do something to help people, but I didn’t know what. I know I am not the stereo typical Personal Trainer type person, but I thought that I could get certified as one and start there. I am a certified personal trainer, and I would love to work with people as a trainer to help them get healthy, but it wasn’t until I found Nia that I felt I could really help a larger number of people and in a totally complete—mind/body—way.

I love to practice Nia. I love the way I feel after I have “done something Nia.” But I also still enjoy other types of workouts. I think that people need to find what they enjoy because they need to keep moving their bodies their ENTIRE lives. There is so much information out there about health, wellness, and fitness, I am learning what I can and thought I could share some tidbits with you.

Terre is also a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Council on Strength and Fitness as well as a certified PiYo Instructor.

For more details on Terre and more information regarding Nia please visit Terre’s website: http://www.HelpYouWell.com

*As of November 2012 Terre is a Nia Blue Belt.

Thanks for visiting my blog, Terre! The custards don’t seem all that rich to me but you can make them with 2% milk if you like. Let me know what you think. And I saw your comment about the challah–I am coming to SJ next week. My hostess wants a challah lesson and I want to take her to Nia with you so…things could work out well for you in the challah department 🙂 Looking forward to meeting you!

    • The cheese custards might not be that rich, but it is the “custard” that makes me THINK rich. Thanks for the idea of using 2% that would help!

I burst out laughing when I read this. And I said, “Oh don’t tease me!” I am still laughing. I don’t think I have had challah since I worked at the company that would have it delivered (when I was 15 – 20 years old)! It would be so fun to have you in class. I look forward to meeting you too.

I just found your blog and I can attest to your fitness philosophy. I’m a gym rat and have been off and on for much of my life especially the past ten years. I’m in there three times a week and sometimes four. The point of this comment is that I know that muscle tissue can be created and maintained no matter what the age of the person working out. I’m 74 and I still do it because it’s the key to my continued mobility and independence.
I’m looking forward to your future posts.

    • Yay! So glad to hear that about muscles, people could use the reminder! And YES – you are so right, it is key to mobility and independence. I really enjoyed your Spider Guy and your Earl and Jonah stories/posts.

You were in the Navy? My hubby wants to know what squadron you were in?

I flew as an aircrewman in VP-18 based in Jacksonville Florida. We were an anti-submarine warfare squadron and flew search, tracking and destroy missions looking for Soviet Submarines. That was during the early sixties at the height of the Cold War and the Cuban missile crisis. If you go to Wikipedia and do a search for “Cuban Missile Crisis” the info that comes up has a picture of a Lockheed P2V-7 aircraft (LG, 8) flying surveillance on a Soviet freighter. That aircraft was one of 11 in VP-18 at that time. I can’t be sure but I think I took that picture.

Is your husband in the Navy? What outfit was he in?

        • No, not my husband, his father. My hubby said somthing about VP-5. Mad Foxes.

There were three or four different ASW squadrons in Jacksonville at that time and I think VP-5 was one of them. I’ll try and check it out. Does your husband know what his father did within VP-5? This is very interesting to me.

If you would prefer to communicate via email rather than taking up space on your blog with these questions, my email is signpilot@sbcglobal.net.

              • I don’t mind communicating on my blog, “taking up space” is not an issue. But . . . I can see how a “conversation” about this stuff might be better/easier in an e-mail. Plus that way I can “turn you over” to my hubby who has the information that you are curious about. As I said on my last reply, my hubby was interested too and asking me all kinds of questions and I don’t know . . . .:-)

            • Yes, my husband knows and he has told me, but . . . . I don’t remember. Navigator in a plane? He (my husband) was very interested too. I was trying to read your posts and he was showing me pictures of planes . . . 🙂 He said his dad sat in this scary looking bubble on the front of the plane and I can’t imagine that.

He was asking me all types of questions about you and what you did. I told him you just commented on my blog and this was the first time I was seeing your blog.

              Thank you for responding!

Yes, I’ve ridden in that bubble hundreds of times. In fact I’m in the process of writing a story about just that. Your husband has my email address if he would like to swap info. Is his father still alive?

                Like

                • I just sent you an e-mail. And — wow! That bubble looks scary! I love to fly, but I don’t know about THAT! My hubby is kinda slow when it comes to returning e-mails because he deals with e-mails all day long so we will have to see. I will try to remember to ask him tonight . . . although it is New Year’s Eve and I might forget because we have a shindig to go to! Ooooo! But maybe I will remember because we will probably see his father (yup, still alive!) at the Shindig!

As I said in the e-mail, I am excited about the chance that you two might know each other. Wouldn’t that be cool? Even if you don’t know each other, I bet you could swap stories. He is not an e-mailer, though, but we might get him to read your blog! 🙂

You share an important message. Movement is one of the most important keys to life. If you think about it, everything biologically “alive” that stops moving entirely dies. Prior to retiring, I used to educate my patients about biomechanics and neurology on a level that was easily understandable. One of the main causes of osteoarthritis is loss of joint function and integrity. Do nothing to correct this and watch the condition progress. Restore function and create soft tissue and muscle balance and you impede the degradation. This follows your message which I completely agree with. MOVEMENT resulting from any activity in life is beneficial. Great post!

And I agree with your “about”, regarding the present health care model of doctors treating the symptoms and not the actual issue.

Thank you for reading and commenting, Dr. Colter.

    • Ha. You “got me” with your cat avatar. I was on someone else blog and you had liked a post, I clicked because of the kitty! 🙂 I would post cat stuff all the time, but I think people would get super bored . . . . because it would be boring stuff: “Teagan sleeping.” “Nessa sleeping.” Ya know, all the stuff “moms” think is cute! 🙂 Thanks for popping over here!
