Goodie Jar – Check In #10

Posted by terrepruitt on April 5, 2013

So how is your Goodie Jar filling up?  Well?  Do you have a lot of good things that you are putting into it?

I can think of many things that some people might consider Good Things.  Here are a few:

Basketball
March Madness
Baseball
Hockey
Spring Weather
Rain
Easter
Resurrection
Passover
Hard Boiled Eggs

So, how about that?  This list might help you if you need it!

I love the diversity of the good things you mention — everything from basketball to Passover to hard boiled eggs. I think I mentioned to you that I have a “good things” jar in my studio. I’ve used the “good things” that my students drop into the jar as foci for my classes sometimes. One of my favorites, offered by one of my students, is: “Sail away from the safe harbor”. I use that as a focus for FreeDance. Move out of our comfort zone. Sail away from the safe harbor!! Thanks for your blog posts. They always make me smile!

    • HA! Well “Good Things” ARE diverse, right? What is good to you might not be good to me. Everyone is different. (I do not (!) like hard boiled eggs, but I know many people LOVE them!)

Yes, you have mentioned your good things jar in your studio. I love that idea. So many great ideas for when I have my own studio!

OH! I love that! “‘Sail away from the safe harbor’. I use that as a focus for FreeDance. Move out of our comfort zone. Sail away from the safe harbor!!” Awesome. I am going to use that. That is a great way to encourage people to get out of their comfort zones! Thank you!!!!!!!

I liked that “good things” saying, too. It was on my Nia “altar” for quite awhile. I have found that my students like to pick out a “good thing” from the jar and read it for themselves before or after class. It’s so nice to see participation in this from many of my students.

        • I bet. There are so many wonderful things that can be done when you have your own studio. I would love that. But for now, I am fortunate to have a place I rent that is affordable and nice. I have been there for over four years. And I am also fortunate to be able to teach at the community centers. But they are not places I could have a jar or something like that. And, while I could BRING it/one each time, I cannot imagine be actually doing that. Recently I forgot my phone (hence, I didn’t have my music!). So I know that thinking I could bring a jar each time would probably have me forgetting something else important, like my pants! LOL!

My students are awesome too. The things I am witness to is them being clients of each other or friends outside of class. I love that. I love that Nia helped make those connections!
