Karl The Fog

We recently had a friend visit from out of the country. So we played tourists and went to San Francisco one day during his visit. It had been really hot earlier in the week, but the days he was here it cooled down a little. In The City, it cooled down enough that the fog came back. Did you know the fog has a name? The fog in San Francisco is named Karl. While I knew that I didn’t know why. I only knew it because one time years ago my husband mentioned it and since I didn’t believe him I looked it up – and, yes, Karl is the name of the fog.
When I looked it up I discovered he had a Twitter account. @KarlTheFog That was good enough for me. Just having looked up (when our friend was here) why he was called Karl I discovered according to Quora, “the name is a reference to the giant Karl in the Tim Burton movie Big Fish.” And KQED, reported that “the name became so well established that Karl was even used as a clue on” the TV game show Jeopardy.
Like ALL things, some people love it and some people hate it. I think it is hilarious. I love Karl. I love him because he is a naturally cooling element and I love his sense of humor. He is darn funny fog! SFGate has a few screen shots of his humor.
Oh, and he has recently published a book. Aptly named Karl the Fog.
So, now you know, if you didn’t already.
Let me hear it. What have you got to say about this post?
