Christmas In July
Posted by terrepruitt on December 29, 2021
I’ve heard it said that some people believe that Jesus was actually born in July. I have also hear of “Christmas in July” which I always thought was a marketing ploy. I have not looked up either idea, but at the beginning of the week I was taking a class and the instructor mentioned how winter is the time when our bodies need to slow down and relax. And it dawned on me how absurd it is that we have two major Holidays so close together and in winter. I wish the United States celebrated Thanksgiving in October as our neighbors do. And now I am wishing we had Christmas in July.
A busy, pressured filled Holiday in the middle of summer seems much more logical. The days are long, energy is up it seems right. People could gather outside for cookouts and there could be more gatherings because we wouldn’t be restricted to weekends. In summer people are willing to do things after work because it is still light and warm. It would also be easier on the people who have a lot of people to buy for because there would be “more time” because it is easier to drive without the threat of bad weather and the days are longer. The more I think about it the more it just makes sense.
Then December could be for what it is actually for . . . it could be a time of rest and “hibernation” we could go into the new year fortified and refreshed.
🙂 I was just kinda thinking it made sense. Just a thought. What do you think?

Everyday is just what you make it. there is no pressure unless you put it on yourself. Don’t be a sheep, be an individual, and do what you want, not the dictates of the society, all holidays are man made.

Holidays are man made that is why I would love to have it in July. That way the pressure that society has out there would fit more with the actual natural rhythm of our bodies. And I don’t mind being called a sheep because, in fact I am part of a flock and – at the risk of sounding corny – the Lord is my Shepherd. :-O I may or may not subscribe to things that would make me a sheep to you, but I was actually thinking of the people who have a hard time with the Holidays because they have so much to do. I love that you have shared what you think. Thank you. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours!

I’d heard of Christmas in July before too but had no idea where from or what it related to. According to a site from a Google search just now, “According to legend, Christmas in July was first celebrated at a summer camp in 1933, when Keystone Camp in Brevard, N.C. decided to dedicate two days (July 24 and 25) to the holiday—complete with cotton fake snow, a decked-out tree, a gift exchange, and, of course, Santa.”
You’re right, it would be far more logical to do it in summer, in better weather and when our bodies are a little more keen on actually doing stuff! x

THANK YOU for sharing that bit of knowledge, I was seriously pressed for time and just wanted to write a post without spending hours looking up stuff. I start to write and then get caught up in looking up stuff and trying hard to be factual. And since I didn’t really need to look up my point (for once) I just typed it up quick. I am so amazed though because I didn’t realize that Christmas in July was that old – 1933!!!! Wow. I think if it was in July it would be more enjoyable because of all that you said! I think it would be less stressful. Oh well, a girl can dream. Thank you for reading and commenting. I enjoy your blog. Happy New Year!!!
