A Colorful Sky

Posted by terrepruitt on August 18, 2023

I am pretty sure I have many Friday Photos posted of this angle and a pink sky.  From this angle is where the colors show the most vibrant.  Often times we look out the window and say, “Pink sky.”  Then get up to look at it.

This was from November 2022.

FitFabFun Box Cat

Posted by terrepruitt on August 11, 2023

Usually this box is closed because I use it to give height to my laptop, but the second I opened it, this one stepped inside. Then she got comfortable. It is so funny to me that no matter how many boxes they have they are always happy with one more. Nessa in the FitFabFun Box for today’s Friday Photo.

Mama Africa

Posted by terrepruitt on August 9, 2023

I am not on TikTok, but I am on Instagram waaaay too much. I think the way it works is people do/record “TikToks” and then they post them to Instgram or others do, somehow I do end up watching things that were first on TikTok. All this to say that the trend might have started on TikTok but I have seen it on Instagram. You may be familiar with reels that are videos with a snippet of a song playing. Well, if you have been on Instagram at all I am betting you have heard “Makeba”.

“Makeba, Makeba, me que bella. Can I get a “ooh-ee”?” . . . . yeah, that is what it says I had to look it up because I have this tune on repeat in my head and I had no idea what it was. Some sites say “me que bella” and some sites say “me che bella”.  The singer-songwriter is French.

“Makeba” was released in 2015, yes I am just hearing it 8 years later. It is a very catchy tune, one that gets stuck in your head. And the catchy part is actually said over and over so that makes it even more catchy.

It is about “Mama Africa” a woman who was born in Africa in 1932 and died in 2008, Miriam Makeba. Who, Britannica.com claims to be “one of the world’s most prominent Black African performers in the 20th century.” And Wiki says that she “was among the first African musicians to receive worldwide recognition. She brought African music to a Western audience, and popularized the world music and Afropop genres.” She was a civil rights activist and that is what Jain is saying in the song. It is such a catchy tune.

Do you know it?

Pretty Day

Posted by terrepruitt on August 4, 2023

I know a recent Friday Photo was of a blue sky, but sometimes I just like to post pictures of the beauty that is around me. I feel very blessed to have such a view when in my neighborhood. It just struck me as pretty so I took a picture last October.

I labeled the file “Pretty day”. Today’s Friday Photo is a “Pretty Day” in October 2022.

Email A Tree?

Posted by terrepruitt on July 26, 2023

I am currently listening to a book. And it is taking me forever even though I am not paying that much attention. It is interesting, but it is telling me what I know. It is filling me in on more details about what I know so that is why I am trying to listen, but I cannot remember the details nor do I need to. It is giving me additional information, but it is also causing me to be very curious about a lot of things so I find myself stopping and looking things up and going off on tangents. And one thing it just informed me of had me saying “OH! I am doing a blog post about this.”

The book is The Joy of Movement and it is explaining about “runner’s high” and how the brain is effected and a lot of “cut up the brains of lab animals” kind of stuff.

But I am at the point where it mentions you can e-mail trees in Melbourne. Now the program started years ago with the intent of notifying the city if there was an issue, but people emailed gratitude and admiration. So . . . . of course, I had to do it.

I found a lot of articles regarding it, but I didn’t see any of them say how. So I went to the city’s website and entered “email a tree” in the search and a map came up and you can click on a tree and it states the type of tree it is and allows you to click “email tree”. So I did. 🙂

Since I don’t know anything about the city I picked a tree on Batman Avenue.  🙂

Anyone else interested in e-mail a tree? Tell me what you say.

I sent an e-mail to:

Araucaria
Bunya pine
tree ID : 1635292

We haven’t had a lot of these roses this year, but they are spectacular when they show up. A beautiful orange yard rose (from April 2023) for today’s Friday Photo.

Half Kneeling Inner Thigh Stretch

Posted by terrepruitt on July 19, 2023

If you have seen any stretching posts of mine, you know I love me some stretching. You know I think stretching is very important and very beneficial. Here is another stretch for you.

Here are quick instructions:

-Kneel on the floor and take one leg out. Knee pointing away from the body to the side. If you were to hold your arm out to the side the thigh would be in alignment with the knee and toes point out in the same direction.

-You can use your arm to push the knee/thigh back a bit.

-I may be stating the obvious, but normally you would do one side after the other. 🙂

That’s it.

This is an inner thigh stretch. It stretches your adductor muscles.

As with many stretches and exercises there are many ways to stretch/exercise a muscle/set of muscles. This is just one.

I teach a stretch class so, of course, I would love you to join, but I also really believe that stretching is so very important so I just want to post some stretches so you can do them on your own and experience the benefit of stretching.

Do you stretch?

Cat-Cow

Posted by terrepruitt on July 17, 2023

I am always wondering why they say “Cat-Cow” but DO “Cow-Cat”? I don’t. In my classes I say Cat-Cow and we do cat first. But in all the yoga and stretch classes I take – except for one I remember  – they say “Cat-Cow” but we DO “Cow-Cat”.

I wonder why that is . . . . anyone else or am I the only one?  Does anyone know why?

Blue Sky

Posted by terrepruitt on July 14, 2023

A week ago I went out to run a quick errand.  When I jumped back into my car it wouldn’t start that is when I noticed how blue and completely clear the sky was.  The photo doesn’t really do it justice as I am not a photographer, but it will serve to remind me that sometimes things happen to make me stop to look around.  I am sharing my “blue sky” for my Friday Photo.

Mayo

Posted by terrepruitt on July 12, 2023

I had a funny friend post something recently on Facebook that made a few of us go, “Huh?”  She does not eat mayonnaise, but ended up with a very large jar of it in her fridge, but that wasn’t the “Huh?” part.  The “HUH?” was “Extra Heavy”.  I had to look it up.  Interesting.  Extra heavy means more egg yolks which is really kind of funny because I feel like the mayo we buy USED to list eggs as the first ingredients and now it is “soybean oil”.  So then I was thinking that “back in the day” perhaps most mayonnaise were “heavy” because they contained more eggs and more yolks.  Either way, I was fascinated that there was such a thing as “extra heavy mayonnaise”.

Have you ever heard of that?
