As is often the case, I am rushing to post a Friday Photo. Had I thought about it, I would have posted a picture relating to Veterans Day. But instead I will post a picture from my Rose Garden visit earlier this year. I don’t even know if these are on the same bush. And I will say to thank all those who have served and sacrificed so much, without a picture to post that reflects that. I am grateful for all that they and their families have sacrificed.

Another Orange Rose Garden Rose
Posted by terrepruitt on November 4, 2022
This may be the same type as the one I posted on October 21, 2022, as you may know, I didn’t note the types of roses as I was walking through the garden, but we DID notice that they have more than one place for some of them. At first we just thought they looked the same, but then we did think we saw some duplicates. Still pretty so I am posting this orange rose for my Friday Photo.
I love flowers and I hope you enjoy!

Reminds Me Of Our Yard Roses
Posted by terrepruitt on October 21, 2022
This rose reminds me of our yard roses. The ones we used to have. When we first moved in we had a rose bush with very orange roses. Over the years they have adjusted color. This one is sweet. And, yes, even though the roses are clearly labeled at the Rose Garden I did not take pictures or the placards or make note of them. I was just snapping pictures for my Friday Photo posts.

Here Is A Bigger View
Posted by terrepruitt on October 14, 2022
Here is a view of a few of the rose bushes and the rows at the Rose Garden. As you can see, yes, they all have placards, but I just get distracted by the roses and don’t think to take a picture of the names.
I think I have a few more photos I can use for my Friday Photo . . . I’m not done with the Rose Garden yet!

Hot Pink Rose Garden Rose
Posted by terrepruitt on September 16, 2022
So here is another rose that was at the rose garden. The color is amazing. Such a bright hot pink. With as much as it is open it kinda doesn’t make me think of a rose. But it is very pretty. I still have more roses to share for my Friday Photo.

A Red Rose Garden Rose
Posted by terrepruitt on September 2, 2022
Argh! I really should have taken note on the names of the roses. I was just snapping pictures and not paying attention. It was so hot in the sun. I couldn’t even really see the pictures I was taking as it was so bright. I really need to go back and pay more attention. Here is a pretty red rose for today’s Friday Photo. Kind of a different type of rose than I think of a “typical rose”.
What do you think?

Rose Garden Rose
Posted by terrepruitt on August 12, 2022
In my area we have a rose garden. I don’t go often, but when I do I say, “I need to visit here more often.” And then I don’t. I visited recently on a hot day. The flowers were hot. I will be posting roses for my Friday Photo for a few weeks now. I didn’t get the names of the roses I took pictures of. I just took pictures of ones that struck me as pretty.
The last time I went was May 2015.

These Ain’t My Yard Roses!
Posted by terrepruitt on May 2, 2015
We have a beautiful rose garden in San Jose, CA. I do not recall ever having been in there before my visit last week. I have lived here all my life and I do not remember ever going inside the Rose Garden. I remember going to it once, but it was closed so we didn’t get in. This past week, my friend wanted to put up some fliers so we decided to walk through the garden. I might have made it all the way through at a more leisurely pace if we had not stopped to talk to one of the ex-gardeners. My friend had been telling me some of what he had said, but he had a lot of information regarding the garden and roses in general. The rose garden is beautiful.
It is 5 1/2–acres of grass and roses. What my friend was telling me and then the ex-gardener expounded upon was that roses get tested there. So there is an entire section of roses that don’t have names. You will just see numbers on the placards. Those are patent numbers. The roses are there for three years and the rose growers see how they do. I am sure there is a list of things they are looking for in order to qualify as a new variety. The are probably being tested for size and color. Also fortitude. I am sure they don’t want a rose that will not be able to grow well. The ex-gardener mentioned that the rose growers are getting more interested in aroma. You might be familiar with the fact that most roses you purchase now-a-days don’t really have a scent. It is as if they are so busy breeding HUGE colorful roses that they bred the scent right out of them.
The ex-gardner mentioned that the public wants smelly roses. So the growers are working on putting the scent back into new varieties.
So it really seems that I picked an AWESOME day to go to the rose garden. I mean, how lucky were we to run into this man who used to work there taking care of the roses. He was so full of information and so kind to take his time to share his knowledge with us. He even pointed out his roses. Miles of Smiles they are called.
The rose garden is host to many events. People take pictures for special events all the time. There is enough grass to have a picnic or just spread out a blanket and relax. There are also a few picnic tables.
The problem for me is after having stopped to talk to the ex-gardener I used up all my “outside-breathe-time”. We ended up rushing through a portion of it so that we could have time to hang the flyers before I passed out from sneezing! My allergies are very apparent this time of year.
We actually have TWO rose gardens in San Jose. The one I recently visited is where they test the new roses and my friend was saying the other one is where they have the old variety of roses. I will have to get to that one.
The website for the San Jose Municipal Rose Garden states that the garden has over 4,000 rose shrubs. There are 189 varieties represented. Click here to visit the website.
Have you ever visited the Rose Garden in San Jose? Did you know they tested roses there?
