Heart Chakra Associations

Posted by terrepruitt on November 15, 2011

Yesterday after my Nia class I was looking for something to post about today.  I often look at my blog to see how many articles I have posted in each category.  I am sort of surprised that my “Misc” is surpassing my “Nia”, but I bet a lot of the post categorized under Misc mention Nia in some way.  I noticed Chakra only has two post and I know I said I was going to post more on that so I googled Chakra and lungs.  I have been sensing my lungs lately.  If you’ve read my blog for a bit you might know that I think that most of the time we don’t sense our body parts.  We don’t think about them and we don’t sense them.  When we sense them is it usually because something is up.  I don’t think about my back until it hurts.  I never sense my elbow until it is sore.  My toes are pretty much on their own until I hurt one.  So that is what I mean.  You don’t think about your heart or your lungs unless they are bothering you.  I don’t always like to assign the word PAIN to a sensation because it is not always pain.  I could just be an itch or a discomfort, either way, I am sensing them.  So I did a Chakra lung search.  I don’t know why I was surprised.  The chakra that affects the lungs is the heart chakra.

The heart chakra is the fourth chakra.  It located in the middle of your chest.  The color associated with it is green.  In the body the associations to the heart chakra are the heart, the circulatory system, the entire chest area, lungs, breasts, the diaphragm, the thymus gland, the immune system, and some say the endocrine system. One website states:  “Possible Physical Symptoms: Heart Issues, Lung & Breathing Problems, Upper Back Pain, Breast Cancer, Compromised Immune System, Blood Diseases.”

The fourth chakra is where feelings and emotions of love originate.   Joy, honesty, happiness, generosity, compassion, respect, and understanding are associated with the heart chakra.

The heart chakra is affected by grief.  I was just thinking that my itchy lungs could be a result of a less than happy heart chakra.  I was reminded by this one site that the middle of the chest would be right behind the sternum.  The sternum and rib cage protect the actual heart and organs.  This information made me lean even more towards those thoughts.

Several sites stated an exercise that could be performed to help balance the heart chakra is to vigorously rub your hands together.  This opens the energy in the hands which are connected to the heart’s energy.

So interesting.  I still do not understand all the energies in the body and in the world, but I see how it can all be connected and how sometimes certain energies can become block or unbalanced.  It amazes me to see how it all connects.  But if you believe that it DOES all connect, then it might be that you can understand how a sad heart could have itchy lungs.

Have a day full of light!

  1. I love what you post about. I always learn something! I took a deep breath and really felt my lungs and upper back. I have some injuries to my upper back that i felt. It will be good to open my heart chakra and see if that helps.

    • Thanks. Could be. Could also be that you have an “overactive” heart chakra and give too much not allowing yourself to have time and energy for yourself? (Hmmm. Could that be it?) XOXOXO

    • Yeah, there is a lot of information. Some doesn’t seem to be the same so you kind of have to pick and choose, but most of it is consistent. VERY INTERESTING.

      I was a little jolted . . . . although I shouldn’t have been.

I think about you a lot! Hope you are doing well. XOXOXOXOX

I love working with the Chakras. I have a great deal of experience with them from having taught Yoga, but just in a general sense, too. I am a Reiki practitioner — Reiki works directly with the Chakras for healing and balancing them. There is so much to be learned from the chakras.

The heart chakra specifically deals with love, compassion, healing and transformation — and of course if that chakra is not open or balanced, the opposite of those characteristics can be one’s experience (hate, bigotry, illness, stagnancy).

If you would like more info on the chakras, I can give you several references. One of the best is the Nia book and your White Belt information. Principle #8, Pelvis, Chest, Head is directly related to the Chakras. The pelvis houses the first (root) and the second (sacral/sexual) chakra. The Chest houses the third (solar plexus) and the 4th (heart) chakras. The Head houses the 5th (throat), the 6th (brow/third eye) and the 7th (crown) chakras. When we do what we do in Nia, we are moving, opening and balancing the chakra system. That is one of the reasons Nia is so self-healing.

    Amazing stuff, these chakras.

    I love you,

    Jill

    • There is so much to be learned from the chakras and so much to learn ABOUT the chakras.

From what I have seen/read an unbalance can lead to what you mentioned but also an unbalance can be in an overactive chakra, where one gets worn down and out because they give too much so they deplete themselves, yes? Or am I remembering incorrectly?

It is amazing the energy we have in our bodies. It is also amazing that we can move it and work with it. Whew! Mind boggling!

Thank you so much for reading, commenting, teaching, and loving. Love you too.

Yes, underactive or overactive is an imbalance — usually with different results though. For instance: underactive solar plexus chakra can lead to overt shyness, lack of self-confidence; overactive solar plexus can lead to egostical control freak.

I’ll be posting about all of the chakras (one day at a time) on my blog. My first (with Chakra #1) was yesterday. I’ll be posting about Chakra #2 soon.

        Love to you,

        Jill

        • I guess different people look at it different ways because one of the sites I was looking at said that and overactive Heart Chakra would be someone who (in short) does too much and puts others’ needs above their own. But they use the term “malfuctioning” for the egotistical (in short) person. Both being unblanced, as you stated.

I’m wanting to post about the chakras too, but there is so much information to sift through. Like I mentioned one site said it the opposite somewhat of what you are saying so it is easy to get off track when looking into things.

I am happy that you discovered I reply to your comments. I ALWAYS reply. Sometimes, like today it takes me a little while.

          XOXOXOX

    Very nicely said:

“…most of the time we don’t sense our body parts. We don’t think about them and we don’t sense them.”

In fact, it’s the combination of the solar plexus chakra, the heart chakra and the throat chakra that makes room for the full expansion of lungs while they inhale during respiration.

And we MUST sense it every time we breathe in as well as breathe out. It gives such an awesome feeling to the body and to the mind!
