Classes Are Still Happening

Posted by terrepruitt on March 9, 2020

Sigh. I usually don’t post about the latest things going on in the news because that is not what my blog is about. Usually. I don’t USUALLY post about current events because I often feel that is just a way people try to get traffic to their blog . . . but in this case – the COVID-19 case – I am getting a lot of questions from students. You may or may not know that I teach classes. I teach Nia, yoga, and stretch. All of these things can be done at home, but there are several reasons people gather to do them. One reason – especially for Nia – is the energy, it is much more fun dancing in a room with other people than it is at home on your own. Another reason is motivation; it is much easier to actually do it (Nia, yoga, stretch) when you have paid for a class and made a commitment. Another reason is just the plain social aspect of it. Most of my classes have people that are friends and we care what is going on in each others’ lives. So since I teach in a class room setting I have students asking me about classes.

Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia online, Zoom meetings, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, Nia San Jose, Nia workout, Nia, Gentle Yoga, Group Ex classes, Nia Technique, Yin Yoga, stretch classes, online exercise, Zoom classes, virtual yogaFirst of all, all of the places I work (City of San Jose, the YMCA, and even the dance studio) are taking extra precautions by cleaning things more often than normal. I have received e-mails from both the City of San Jose and the YMCA stating that both are working with the health department. Everyone is working together to find a way to navigate through this time.

As you know the best defense is hand washing. Wash your hands as soon as you can after you touch anything outside your home. Using hand sanitizer is second to hand washing and at this point I hear there isn’t anywhere you can buy it so those of you that have bought it, use it. But washing your hands with soap and water is still the best defense. It takes soap (or 60% alcohol) to break through the outer lipid membrane layer of the virus.

Also, try to keep your hands away from your face. This virus gets to us through our lungs so you don’t want it near your mouth and nose so it can have a chance to infect you.

Follow all the stuff you hear to do that is from reputable sources, I did not mean for this post to end up with me telling you what to do because I am not an expert at all. This post is meant to clear up some information around the classes.

The City of San Jose has decided to cancel some of the Active Adult (Senior) Classes at some of the community centers. Their focus is on LARGE classes. The more people in a room the more chances of infection. The closer people are the more chance of viruses spreading. So, they have cancelled LARGE Active Adult (Senior) classes. If you attend a small class with few people then – as of Monday, March 09, 2020 – the class is not being cancelled. I have not heard of a cancellation of any of the non-senior classes.

The yoga classes and the stretch class I teach at the community centers are small enough that we have plenty of room to spread out and not cough on anyone – and, by the way, if you have a cough – stay home!

The YMCA has not yet cancelled any classes that I know of. But I am talking primarily about the three branches that I work at and my classes.

Keep in mind that things can change. If you attend any of my classes please check my website frequently for updates. If my schedule changes I will send out an e-mail, but my site will be updated faster and first.

I personally feel that the media is all about fear-mongering. It is as if they think it is their job to cause fear and panic. But, I also understand this is serious and we don’t really know how it will turn out. I mean, if people would have just followed the safety guidelines in the first place it might not be as bad as it is. And since that seems to be such a challenge who knows what will end up happening. What you need to do is what is best for you. We all have our own unique situations and psyches so you need to protect yourself. You need to feel safe and comfortable. If not attending a class make you more comfortable then don’t. And we can all be kind and respect whatever it is that each person needs to do to feel safe.

Is there anything you are doing different than usual to feel safe?

They Say Variety Is The Spice . . .

Posted by terrepruitt on March 4, 2020

So recently I went out to dinner and I ordered a farro and kale salad. I was craving greens and it sounded interesting. It was delicious. On a quick search to see the nutrient values of farro I saw a lot of information stating you can switch it out for rice or pasta. Why not, right? So I was thinking it is “grainier” than rice and it might make a good substitute. Since it seems more like a seed than pasta I was thinking it might be good to switch out orzo for farro, but . . . sometimes it really depends on what you are looking for. Remember, food is there to provide us with nutrients so even foods deemed as “healthy” could not be what you need at the moment. Again, it all depends on what you are looking for.

Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia in the City of San Jose, Nia classes in the South Bay, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, San Jose Nia, Nia San Jose, Nia workout, Nia, Gentle Yoga, Group Ex classes, YMCA, Zumba, Nia Technique, SJ City Fit, SJCityFit, City of San Jose Exercise Classes, Cambrian Yoga & Cardio Dance, CYCD, Yin YogaOrzo Nutrients:

Portion: values per 100g

Energy 375 kcal
Protein 12.5 g
Total lipid (fat) 1.79 g
Carbohydrate, by difference 78.57 g
Fiber, total dietary 3.6 g
Sugars 3.57 g
Calcium, Ca 0 mg
Iron, Fe 3.21 mg
Thiamin 1 mg
Riboflavin 0.304 mg
Niacin 5.357 mg

It contains no sodium, Vitamin C, Vitamin A, or Cholesterol

When I had the idea for this post I was more concerned about protein and iron so I was not thinking I would switch out orzo for farro. But . . . things have changed and I might be looking for more fiber and potassium. I think that adding farro to our diet would be a good thing.  But I don’t necessarily have to switch one for the other.  I think variety is good. So we can have farro, rice, orzo, pasta, and end up getting a lot of different nutrients.

Just recently I cooked up some orzo and added some chopped kale. Mmmmmmm, so good. I forgot to get farro when I went to the store, but it is on my list for my next trip.  I am looking forward to adding it to our rotation of side dishes (or in some case making it the main).

Do you cook with rice, farro, pasta, orzo?  What is your favorite?

Single Has Its Advantages

I was unable to use one at time.  Seriously, I tried several different times to figure out a way to just use one, but I couldn’t do it.  My husband couldn’t get them to work as a single either.  Then about a week or two after my post both of us turned to the other and said, “I can use one now.”  It was so weird.  One time when I was taking them out to put away the one that was in my ear kept playing.  So, they do work as a single AirPod.

This ends up being really great when they are at low power.  I don’t have to stop listening all together.  When the AirPods make their little noise notifying me they are at low power I just put one in the case and keep listening.  In about five minutes the one in the case can be charged up pretty high so then I can just switch.  No lost listening time.

So . . . amendment:  AirPods can be used as a single AirPod.

A Successful Change Of Pace

Posted by terrepruitt on February 24, 2020

Have you heard of farro? I had heard of it but it seems like there is a “new” old grain to try every week so I didn’t pay it much attention. Especially since the last thing I was told to try that I think of as trendy is still sitting in my pantry with only two servings having been used. And by “used” I don’t even mean eaten. I cooked it, forced it down. Then tried a second time and realized it can’t be that good for me if it is making me gag and making me dread eating breakfast. I believe sometimes there is a balance in eating healthy things. If buckwheat cereal was the only healthy think I ate, then I would eat it, but it is not. It was so mucus-y I just couldn’t eat it. Well, last night I ordered a farro salad. I usually don’t order salads for entrees, but I felt like having A LOT of greens so I decided to order one as a change of pace. I wasn’t entirely sure about it, but the roasted Brussels Sprouts were really calling to me.

It was really good. First of all, I never eat bacon any more because it just isn’t want it used to be, this bacon was good. But I had just glossed over that on the menu and forgot about it until my bowl came. I had ordered grilled chicken as an addition to the salad. Well, I have to say I really liked the farro. It was really soft. It was like biting into very large rice. But it didn’t feel like orzo. The texture was soft like rice and orzo, but the grain itself is more round it is really satisfying to chew.  I have to like the texture of something otherwise I won’t eat it even it the flavor is fine . . . hence the buckwheat cereal* in my pantry.

Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia in the City of San Jose, Nia classes in the South Bay, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, San Jose Nia, Nia San Jose, Nia workout, Nia, Gentle Yoga, Group Ex classes, YMCA, Zumba, Nia Technique, SJ City Fit, SJCityFit, City of San Jose Exercise Classes, Cambrian Yoga & Cardio Dance, CYCD, Yin YogaI liked the texture of the farro and with the thought of it being an “ancient grain” to me it seems like good comfort food. So even though I was eating raw greens – kale even – the farro gave the salad a very comforting/nurturing feel.

So here is what I found for nutritional information for about 1/2 cup of ORGANIC PEARLED FARRO:

Energy 356 kcal
Protein 11.11 grams
Total lipid (fat) 2.22 grams
Carbohydrate 73.33 gram
Fiber (total dietary) 11.1 grams
Sugars 0 grams
Calcium, Ca 27 mg
Iron, Fe 2.22 mg
Potassium, K 393 mg

It has 0 Sodium, Vitamin D, Saturated fat, transfat, and Cholesterol.

Wiki has this to say about it “Farro is a food composed of the grains of certain wheat species, sold dried, and prepared by cooking in water until soft. It is eaten plain or is often used as an ingredient in salads, soups, and other dishes.”

I am thinking it really can be used like one would use rice. I bet I could use it in place of orzo in my Avgolemono. But I don’t know that I will ever do that because I love the orzo so much.

So, have you tried farro?  Do you cook with it?  What do you make?

*I just realized as I was re-re-re-reading this before publishing that when I was young we ate Buckwheat FLAKES cereal, and that was ok, but what I am talking about it like grits or cream of wheat with a cold or sinus infection.  (Ewww.)

Don’t Ask A Question If You Are Just TRYING To Be Polite

Posted by terrepruitt on February 19, 2020

So what is your opinion . . . .? I think that you shouldn’t ask a question if you are just TRYING to be polite, because then you end up being rude. I don’t think it IS polite for someone to ask a question if they don’t have time or the mental capability or capacity to listen to the answer. I don’t want to say that people don’t care about the answer, because I feel as if we all care, but sometimes we don’t have time for the answer. We might have somewhere else we need to be. Sometimes, it is not as if we are not smart enough that we don’t have the mental capability/capacity I mean we just might not be in the right space to listen to the answer. I know that when my mom was dying if someone were to have given me instructions on how I could have easily received a million dollars, I wouldn’t have been able to listen and remember. So that is what I mean by not having the mental capability. It could be that we are distracted, we have too much on our minds to listen to the response. So . . . to me, it is not polite to ask a question if we are just trying to be polite and we really aren’t going to listen to the answer. What do you think?

Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia in the City of San Jose, Nia classes in the South Bay, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, San Jose Nia, Nia San Jose, Nia workout, Nia, Gentle Yoga, Group Ex classes, YMCA, Zumba, Nia Technique, SJ City Fit, SJCityFit, City of San Jose Exercise Classes, Cambrian Yoga & Cardio Dance, CYCD, Yin YogaWhat sparked this whole post was something I witnessed recently where one person asked another person a question, but then when the second person started to answer the person who asked had a face that screamed, “When can I interrupt to leave?” Now, I know I am assuming things by looking at people, but I felt bad for the second person because they were excited as they started to answer, but as they began picking up on the attitude of the person who asked they became sad because they realized that the person didn’t really want an answer. And that is where I am saying the question shouldn’t even be asked. Why bother?

What also comes to mind is when people say, “How are you doing?” as a greeting. Instead of just saying “Hello.” They say, “How are you doing?” as they walk on past. They really don’t mean it as a question they want an answer to, they just use it as their form of greeting.

Perhaps it is such a habit for some people to ask that they don’t stop themselves when they are in the don’t-have-time or can’t-really-engage stage. I don’t know. That is kind of what what I am asking.

What do you think?

Yard Fairies

I bought one like her and two others for my friend for her birthday or Christmas, I can’t remember which. But it didn’t really matter because we didn’t get together for our birthdays until Christmas. Anyway . . . I wanted to wait until I had given her the fairies before I posted mine. I didn’t take pictures of all of hers because they were wrapped so well when I received them I didn’t unwrap them.  She was of the same mindset when she opened the gift. They were so well wrapped we didn’t take them out of their packaging entirely. But they were so beautiful. Perhaps I can get her to send me pictures and I can add them to this post. I love blue so I bought the blue one for myself.

Oh, I was able to find pictures of the other fairies in the e-mail order confirmation. The pictures show the colors of the wings, but the wings are folded down. In the picture of my blue winged fairy you can see that the wings and be pulled out. The wings are on springs so they move.

They are a very good size. I think mine is a little less than one and half feet tall. So I think the other ones are at least that tall. The one with her arm up, the pink and blue winged one is a bit taller than the others due to her arm being extended.

They are made of sturdy metal. I have tripped over mine several times and she her wings are able to be bent back to where they are displayed nicely.

Now that my friend has her fairies I can post them. They are really fun yard decorations!

Do you have any yard decorations? What do you have in your yard?

Come On Baby Light My Candle

Posted by terrepruitt on February 5, 2020

I may have mentioned on my blog in a past post that I love candles. I love to buy candles. I love to receive candles as gifts. I love to burn candles. I prefer candles that are scented with essential oils. I also lean toward soy candles but I don’t necessarily restrict myself to them. There was a time when my husband didn’t like candles, they pose a certain risk and he didn’t think it was worth it. So I tried to make sure that the candles we had were in jars or were tea lights that could be placed in a holder that was jar like so at least the flames was somewhat contained. But now he is lighting candles even when I am not home. So it was really cool when I received this lighter for Christmas. We have a few like this, but they always seem to be out of fuel. And then we don’t think about it until we go to use it. So the butane doesn’t make it on our shopping list – ever, it seems like. So this one I received was an exciting change.

Yeah, you plug it in and it charges.  I received it as a Christmas gift after Christmas so it hasn’t really needed charging, but after we used it a few days I charged it anyway. The site claims it takes 1-1.5 hours to charge and that a full charge is good for up to 300 lights. Wow! It is easy to use once you get the hang of it. I find that putting the wick in between the prongs is not the way it works, so as soon as I got the hang of it, I can light a candle now without clicking it five times. So, with 300 hundred lights per charge I see it lasting a LONG time before it needs to be charged again. I think it is so cool.

This one is awesome. And it is super awesome because my friend that gave it to me knows I love blue and she got me a blue one! They come in at least 13 different colors.

The site says it is “gas appliance safe” so even if you don’t light candles, if you have gas appliances to light it might be something you would be interested in.

It makes a noise that one of my cats DOES NOT LIKE.  She runs away.  The other day I lit a candle using a match and she didn’t even look up, but if she sees me pick up the lighter she runs.  Which is fine by me, I would rather my pets be afraid of things that can hurt them then to be curious and get injured.  But I try not to use it when she is around, I don’t like to scare her.

Aside from it scaring my cat, it is super cool.

So, what do you think? Do you think it is nearly as cool as I think it is? Do you use lighters?

Listening Reports And Badges

Posted by terrepruitt on February 3, 2020

I believe I started listening to Audible in August, but the little “report” only shows five months at a time. The photos show I have listened to 43 titles, but some of what you see are actually collections. Robot Geneticists is actually 6 books. Galaxy Outlaws is 16 books. Astral Prime is 12, but I think I’ve only listened to 8 of those. Mercy For Hire is 8, but I listened to four of the books twice – LOVE me some Wesley Wesley!!! And the Renegade Star Series is 13 books. So . . . that is about 89 books. Some of those I had listened to with my hubby on our drives to and from my dad’s so the hours won’t add up. But I am driving more because I have a different class schedule so I get to listen more. Also, I had typed this post and as I was editing the pictures I decided to post a nod to my mother on her birthday. So five days have past since I made the collage of the books in the library so I manually edited the three books I finished since I started the post. I think it is fun to see what I have listened to, for how long, how many hours a month, and the little badges they give.

Recently I was listening to a book that was ok, but the reader was not. He didn’t even attempt to do separate voices for the various characters so I never understood what was going on. I had to rewind a lot to understand because I could never tell who was saying what. NO ATTEMPT AT ALL. He just read the book. Some readers are GREAT at the different voices, some are not so great, but at least they make an attempt. You can tell that there are two people talking and you can follow along. Some men don’t do female voices good, but at least they try. Some women don’t do male voices well, but at least they try. This guy – ugh – NO EFFORT AT ALL. I had two hours left of the book and I seriously considered not listening to the rest of it just because he was so awful and there was so many conversations going on it was annoying. I will never listen to another book read by that person!

According to Audible I have listened a total of 25 days, 5 hours, and 44 minutes. In November I was cleaning a lot and listening and in December there was a lot of decorating time spent listening. When I started typing this I didn’t think I would get anywhere near November but then I had a long drive and I was listening a lot while I worked, so the last couple of days of January I was able to get some serious hours in. Thursday I finished listening to one book and started another (“Where the Crawdads Sing”), was able to finish that and this weekend start a new one (“The Golem and the Jinni”).

Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia in the City of San Jose, Nia classes in the South Bay, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, San Jose Nia, Nia San Jose, Nia workout, Nia, Gentle Yoga, Group Ex classes, YMCA, Zumba, Nia Technique, SJ City Fit, SJCityFit, City of San Jose Exercise Classes, Cambrian Yoga & Cardio Dance, CYCD, Yin YogaThe badges are fun and silly. The 7-Day Stretch says that I completed 10 books in a week. I would be interested to know what books those were. Some books are super short like two hours, but some are super long so I would love to know what 10 I listened to in a week. I usually listen to a long one then a short one. But I think after one particularly long (and enjoyable) series I was listening to a lot of short books so as not to be stuck in a LONG book.

The Stenographer one is really hilarious – to me, because it says I placed at least 40 bookmarks. That is so funny because I think I only purposely place 2, but I have accidentally hit the “bookmark” 38 times. Ha!

The Nibbler badge say I have listen to at least 3 different titles on one day. I am thinking they mean they were played.  It doesn’t say FINISHED three books in one day.  I don’t think I listen to three different books in ONE day. I imagine I accidentally started one and then maybe listened to TWO in one day, but THREE. And that would be if one were short and I was in the middle of one in the same day. It would be fun if the stats showed information on the books.

I didn’t get the repeat listener because the first time I listened to the books I listened to twice I think I listened to it with my hubby. It was on my phone. I will probably listen to it again because I love Wesley Wesley, so it might show up then.

So, what about you? How much time do you spend reading? Do you listen to books? Does your app track your listening?

New Stuff Is Learned, By Experts (And Me) – Part 2

Posted by terrepruitt on January 13, 2020

Oh, thank you for coming back.  If you don’t know what I mean, perhaps you want to read part one first.  I realize that to some of you this may not be new, but I get excited when I learn something new.  I think that is why I love to teach.  I want to help people learn stuff and perhaps feel excitement.  Here is the rest of what I learned in the latest CPR/AED class that I was required to take.

Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia in the City of San Jose, Nia classes in the South Bay, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, San Jose Nia, Nia San Jose, Nia workout, Nia, Gentle Yoga, Group Ex classes, YMCA, Zumba, Nia Technique, SJ City Fit, SJCityFit, City of San Jose Exercise Classes, Cambrian Yoga & Cardio Dance, CYCD, Yin YogaWe were told that through a little survey it was discovered that as high as 65% of first responders didn’t time the chest compressions right. This made me feel very, very, very good. The optimal is 110 compressions per minute. Getting the timing correct is very challenging to me – as I explained – so to hear that even first responders found it challenging was encouraging. To help with this issue in 2019 the 911 system has started using metronomes. There are metronome applications for phones. Download one and set it to 110 beats per minute and there you go. Compress when it ticks. Now there is no having to think about if you are doing it too fast or too slow, just make sure you can hear the metronome and press down when you do!

It has also been discovered that decompression is just as important as compression. There might be a tendency to lean on the chest or not come up enough to allow the chest to decompress and the heart fill with blood. Compressing the chest pushes the blood from the heart to the body and brain. Allowing the chest to decompress lets the heart fill back up with blood so as to not starve it. It is a muscle, it needs blood. So not only we were shown how far to press down we taught to make sure we came up enough. I have never heard that in previous trainings.

Now, for those of you that have taken CPR training you know this, but for those of you that have not one of the things that they emphasize (because it is so important) is to get 911 on its way. So once it has been determined that YES, in fact the person needs medical attention someone is assigned to call 911. And, if you are in a place that has an AED someone is assigned to go get it. That is as much team work as I have ever been instructed upon. One person takes charge and shouts assignments to specific people of calling 911 and getting the AED. Well, two things new to me . . . assign TWO people to go meet the first responders. Fire is going to get there first, so someone needs to bring them to the scene, but then the ambulance arrives, if no one is there to guide them they will not get to the person as quickly as they could then if someone is leading them to the victim. So . . . I would imagine the person calling 911 could be one of the guides.

Then the second thing was make CPR a team effort. If there are other people there that have taken training great! But if not, you can ask someone if they would like to help. Then while you are doing compressions you can instruct them on how to do it, so you can switch when you need a break. Compressions are not easy. They are very tiring. Even if you have your hips over your knees, your arms are straight, your heart is over their heart and you are using your larger muscles (and not your arms) to do the compressions it can get tiring. They say (again with the experts) that after 2 minutes the quality of the compressions starts to degrade. So after 2 minutes – which is 5 sets of 30 chest compressions and 2 ventilations) it is a great idea if you can switch to another person. We practiced working in teams in class. One of us did a set then we switched. The previous classes I took we worked in teams, but only to share a dummy. We didn’t switch off as you would when you need a break.  Knowing that I can recruit people to help and not be the ONLY person trying to save someone makes the whole idea of CPR on a non-responsive person less overwhelming.  I appreciated that.

In a well populated area it takes roughly 3 to 5 minutes for the first responders to arrive at a location, but it could take them an additional 3 to many minutes to arrive at the scene where the victim is. That could be 6 (at the least) when the person is not getting the blood/oxygen the body needs. So really, if you are doing chest compressions YOU are saving that person’s life.

So, it turns out the class was not as bad as I had thought it would be.  I feel I learned stuff.  Thanks, Lionheart Safety Training.

Well, are any of those things new to you?  What do you think?  Are any of these things interesting to you?  Have you ever taken a CPR class?

New Stuff Is Learned, By Experts (And Me) – Part 1

Posted by terrepruitt on January 8, 2020

CPR certification expires in two years (at least when you take it through certain organizations). Before mine expired I took an online class to recertify just as I had done the last time I needed to recertify. Having taken in-person classes before, I realized that online courses when re-certifying is a great service. Sometimes there are classes that are both, online review and then hands on experience. It is pretty interesting all the classes that are offered. I was kind of happy because the course I took from the American Red Cross was not the same as they have offered before — which is always nice. It is a drag to take the same thing over and over. The online course had some improvements. One thing I liked was it testing me on the timing of the compressions. Yes . . . the online course tests you on the timing. Over the course of the program I was too fast and I was too slow. At first, I was too fast – I didn’t realize it was actually timing me so I just starting clicking as fast as I could to be done with it . . . but it makes you do it again until you get it correct. Then I was too slow . . . anyway, by the end of the course I felt my timing was better. Never felt that way before in a CPR class so I thought it was great that the course actually was able to keep track and help me improve. But my employer didn’t accept this training this time. Last time I renewed they did, but this time they didn’t. So I just decided to take a class they offer. As I mentioned in other posts about CPR training, you should check with your employer. I did not because they had accepted it before . . . perhaps their policy changed.

I was not looking forward to spending four hours in training. The online course was about that long but I didn’t have to drive to it. This in-person training was scheduled to be from 5:30 to 9:30 – ugh! The last time I took a class offered by my employer all we did was watch videos and it was so boring and I didn’t feel I got much out of it. It was so boring that my supervisor at the time was on her phone the entire class. That didn’t help matters. Perhaps you can see why I was dreading having to take this class. The first thing the man did, however, was tell us what he was going to go over, then he asked us what time we were told we were going to get out, then as if bragging, he claimed he was going to dismiss us an hour earlier than scheduled. He had my interest. He had a HUGE list of things he was wanted to cover AND he told us we were going to get out earlier than scheduled. Alright, show me what you got, Dude.

BAM! He did it! Plus he entertained us, he told us some new stuff, and he made us feel we could do it (perform CPR) if we had to.

Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia in the City of San Jose, Nia classes in the South Bay, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, San Jose Nia, Nia San Jose, Nia workout, Nia, Gentle Yoga, Group Ex classes, YMCA, Zumba, Nia Technique, SJ City Fit, SJCityFit, City of San Jose Exercise Classes, Cambrian Yoga & Cardio Dance, CYCD, Yin YogaI have been taking CPR and AED training for 10 years . . . all people employed in the fitness industry have to so those of you in the industry know what I am talking about when I say hearing the same old stuff gets tiring. Yes, I will be the first to admit that I NEED to hear it again, but that doesn’t mean I don’t get bored.

But . . . within the last ten years, things have changed. I am going to share with you the things I learned in this latest training that I thought were cool. I am going to share with you in two posts because I don’t like long post. My last post was longer than I like them to be.  I want to keep them short so you will read them.

There was the decision to train people to do CPR without the rescue breaths/ventilations. Rescue breaths/ventilations are when you actually put your mouth on someone else’s mouth and breathe air into their lungs. Not everyone wants to put their mouth on a stranger’s mouth . . . there are SO many reasons for that, there is NO reason to be critical of that type of thinking. So, they (the experts, whoever they are) realized that chest compressions without ventilations are fine and much more effective at saving a life then nothing at all. So, hands only CPR is not new . . . I’ve been trained on it in the last ten years. But the sense that is ok, as in the complete and total non-judgment of someone not wanting to put their mouth on a stranger AND the acknowledgment that compressions only will get the job done is kind of new and rather refreshing . JUST compressions are ok and definitely better than nothing!

So, if that is all you do you are good, which is great because here I am already long . . . so, if you want to hear more of what I am excited about sharing check back, as I am going to try to keep you in suspense (not really, post is just too long.)
