Whose Feeder Is This?

Posted by terrepruitt on July 21, 2017

This is from a long time ago. We kept having orioles on the hummingbird feeder. They used to pick the yellow flowers off the hummingbird feeder. So we bought them an oriole feeder. But they like the hummingbird ones better.  The oriole feeder is really difficult to clean. Could be why they like the hummingbird feeders better. They probably taste better because they get cleaned better.  The hummingbird feeders can be taken entirely apart.  So I am able to make sure I get it ALL cleaned. Since the orioles pick the flowers off the hummingbird feeders so they can get to the sugar water, we just leave one or two off now.

Here you can see a hummingbird looking at the invader. Can you see him? Ya kind have to look closely.

Hummingbird and oriole for the Friday Photo.

I Miss The Babies

Posted by terrepruitt on July 14, 2017

There was a period of time that there was a family of blue jays that would nest in the our neighbor’s trees. They would come once a year and have babies. I think they did that for about three years. I think I have mentioned it before on my blog. I enjoyed watching the babies grow. They are so funny. They are just like all babies in that they go through a learning period. The go through an awkward period. Those two periods often coinciding!  Then they get their wings (pun intended) and they fly. I miss watching the babies birds grow.  Our neighbor severely trimmed the trees one year and the birds never came back to nest. I came across this photo and I wanted to post it for a Friday Photo.

Look at him. He is so fuzzy!

Just A Cat In A Box On A Friday

Posted by terrepruitt on June 23, 2017

There are some people (I happen to be one of them) who think there is no such thing as too many cat pictures. If you are one of those people then perhaps you might also think there is no such thing as too many pictures of cats in boxes. What is it with cats and boxes? So funny. And many of you know that the smaller the box . . . I mean, the more that it is less likely the cat will fit, the more they like the box. Well, our little cat has no problem fitting in boxes because, well, she is little. But it is odd to me that she just recently started sitting in this box. It has been on the bedroom floor for a long time. We (the cats and I) play with the shredded paper. But lately I will find Nessa in the box. Silly cat.

Peacock Bird Bath

Posted by terrepruitt on June 9, 2017

Oh, I saw this on Facebook, I think. It was from that animal rescue site where your purchases help feed animals. I thought it was so pretty so we got it. It was pretty. It was small, but pretty. I think a bird or two even bathed in it. But it didn’t even last a year. It faded to barely even recognizable and the metal that secured it to the rod that goes into the ground rusted. So the glass bath broke off it’s holder. A little disappointed because it was about $24.00. At least the purchase of it went to feed some animals. And it was pretty while it lasted (about four months).

Peacock Bird Bath for today’s Friday Photo

Birthday Irises

Posted by terrepruitt on May 26, 2017

I was looking through some photos and came across this one.  These were some fabulous flowers I received for my birthday last year.  They were so pretty.  They were also a very pleasant surprise.  So it is nice to have a photo to be reminded of them.  That is exactly what photos are for, right?  Reminding us of things . . . especially the good ones!

Birthday irises for today’s Friday Photo.

From Secret To Goats

Posted by terrepruitt on May 22, 2017

This is a snapshot of chapter one verse eleven in “An Explanation of Hatha Yoga” or The Hatha Yoga Pradipika.  I believe that this is true.  I believe that it was originally meant for men that wanted to give up everything and JUST practice yoga.  That would be – to me – the only explanation as to how some of the poses described and some of the “states of being” described could be achieved.  That is why yoga used to – and actually still does (some poses or things) – seem so impossible to do.  A lot of the asana are not just things you can pop into when you practice once a week.  Hatha Yoga was also shared with royalty . . . again, what did they have to do, but sit around and work their bodies into these poses that promised longevity and enlightenment?

Like many things, in order to make it somewhat possible for the average person, it has morphed over the centuries.  It has become – for many, not all – a form of exercise.  Still with many poses that cannot be achieved with a once-a-week practice.  So I always ask my students to practice ahimsa, where they are gentle with themselves and remember that they might not be able to get into the pose and look like the picture in Yoga Journal because they are just practicing once, twice, or even three times a week (or whatever).  They are not devoting their life to it.  So I just remind them to do the best they can today and to enjoy what they are receiving.

This post started out as a Friday Photo even though this photo should have actually gone along with my post Yoga Was Supposed To Be A Secret.  But when I popped over to that post to remind myself about what exactly I wrote, I was reminded of the current trend in yoga that I am hearing about.  Goat yoga.  Have you heard about that?  It is somewhat like doing yoga at a cat cafe or adoption lounge, except with goats.

“Regular” (whichever type is being offered) yoga classes are held in the presence of goats.  And the goats just mill around.  Could be they hop on you or not.  When I looked it up just now two sites came up and it looks as if the places the sites are about do yoga outside.  (One says that is what actually was the motivation for their goat yoga classes.)  But the other stories I had seen were inside.  I saw a story where the yoga was being done in a barn and another one where it was a room because the goats (they were kids) were hopping all over and their hooves were making clickety-clack noises on the floor.  Seems as if there are several different places that it is done.  It is really popular.

I am not sure that I would want to have that be a part of my regular practice, but I might try it once.  I like the idea of cats better as I don’t think they are as heavy and rowdy as goats.  But . . . . I don’t know . . .

What do you think?  What is your take on Hatha Yoga starting off as being a secret?  Would you be interested in doing yoga around a herd of goats?

Fire In The Sky

Posted by terrepruitt on May 19, 2017

So this is an old photo, but I like it.  I am often treated to beautifully colored skies via my office window.  This was from 2014.  I makes me smile so I thought I would share it with you.  Perhaps it can make you smile.

Friday Photo of a colorful sky.

A Pretty Card

Posted by terrepruitt on May 12, 2017

Sometimes a pretty card makes a pretty photo.  I was wondering what to post today and as I was cleaning – strike that, who am I kidding, my desk is never clean – as I was straightening up my desk I came across this.  It is so pretty.  And is very sweet.  I happen to receive it when I was up at my dad’s house for several days going through the house.  It was a very nice (and timely) surprise.  I will probably end up posting pictures of what it accompanied because that is stunningly beautiful.

Happy Friday!

Hello, for today’s Friday Photo.

Little Blue Bird of Happiness

Posted by terrepruitt on April 28, 2017

This is the Little Blue Bird of Happiness.  He is little and he does make me happy.  A friend gave me this.  It came with a little piece of paper.  I kept the paper, of course, but I don’t know where it is, of course.  But I am pretty sure it talked about the Blue Bird of Happiness.  This guy is so cute.  He is no bigger than a dime.  He is TINY.  He is so cute, he does make me happy.  I had him on the counter, but my husband suggested I put him elsewhere.  Just in case our cats were somewhere they shouldn’t be doing something they shouldn’t be doing.  That could result in the loss of my little bird.  He is so cute!

What do you think of my little bird?  I thought it would be a nice Friday Photo.

A Yellow Rose

Posted by terrepruitt on April 21, 2017

I looked outside this morning when a squirrel came to ask for nuts.  When I looked outside I saw this beauty.  I told myself that I needed to remember to take a picture of it.  I was thinking I would use it for my Friday Photo today.  Then I thought I shouldn’t do that because I just did a flower photo.  But, I didn’t JUST post a flower photo, it was two weeks ago.  And it IS the season.  And I did say that I would be posting a lot of flowers, cats, and birds . . . so . . . here ya go.  A beautiful rose from our yard.  I decided to cut it and bring it inside.
