An Angel, A Nativity Scene, Reindeer Pinecone Holders, And A Window Sill

Posted by terrepruitt on December 27, 2023

We have a kitchen window sill now. The angel is a candle “holder” but we are not using it as such so close to the curtain. My mom gave it to us. The nativity scene is from one of our cruises and the pinecone reindeer were my mom’s. Our Christmas decorations are memories for me.

2023 Christmas Tree

Posted by terrepruitt on December 26, 2023

2023 Christmas Tree. I think when we brought it in the house the nail in the tree may have loosened a little because it is crooked, but either I am used to it now or it has straightened out since I took this photo (12.11.23).  The star is totally crooked, but my husband wanted to leave it.  Here is the full Christmas Tree.  Oh, you can see the little lighted trees in the yard through the sliding glass door.

Decorations On The 2023 Christmas Tree

Posted by terrepruitt on December 22, 2023

Here is a close-up of the Christmas tree.  There are always so many ornaments I enjoy looking at, so I end up posting pictures of the same ornaments.  🙂  Ahh, the joys of Christmas trees and ornaments.

Star ships, icicles, candy canes, tea cups, glittery bulbs, crosses, and all kinds of stuff adorn our Christmas trees, so here is another shot for today’s Friday Photo.

Red Roses Add To Christmas Decor

Posted by terrepruitt on December 15, 2023

I received a gift of roses yesterday. There was so many I opted to put them in two vases. I love flowers and so I was very happy. It was an unexpected “Just because” from my hubby. Such a great addition to our Christmas decorations. So here ya go for today’s Friday Photo.

Do you add flowers or plants to your Christmas decor?

Purple Hydrangeas

Posted by terrepruitt on November 17, 2023

These are pretty. I like hydrangeas. But they are also very sticky. I would recommend not having them near a walkway. We have them near a path and they grow FAST and stick to everything they touch. Which is always us as we walk by.

Our pretty hydrangea for today’s Friday Photo.

Veterans Day Is November 11th

Posted by terrepruitt on November 10, 2023

Tomorrow is Veteran’s Day, but American’s like their three day weekends so many are celebrating it today.  November 11th became a federal holiday in the United States in 1938, dedicated to American veterans of all wars.  It was originally known as Armistice Day, but in 1954, it was changed to Veterans Day.  Today, tomorrow, and every day, we thank you, Veterans.  Featuring my grandfather’s flag for today’s Friday Photo.

Daylight Saving Time 2023

Posted by terrepruitt on November 6, 2023

In 2010 it was cemented in my brain that is it is Daylight Saving Time, not Daylight SavingS Time.  No S.  I hear various opinions on the subject of Daylight Saving Time and I know that some of us like it and some of us don’t, but what I am particularly confused about this year is that some people don’t know what it is.  I am seeing several posts about it and how people don’t like it as they set they clocks and hour back.  I feel like they have their times swapped.  Daylight Saving Time is when it is dark in the morning and light at night (sometimes up to or past 9:00 pm).  We typically say we are moving the clocks FORWARD.  STANDARD Time, is just that where it is a little lighter in the morning, but get dark before a lot of people get off work.  We typically say we are moving the clocks back.  Some may be familiar with the saying “Spring forward, Fall back.”  So I am not sure about these posts.

I think there is a ploy out there for people to say things wrong, or spell things incorrectly so that they get a lot of comments on the posts correcting them so I haven’t bothered to try to clarify because I somewhat feel that is what is going on.  But then I am not sure.  With some people liking Standard Time and some people not, I can’t tell when they say, “Daylight Savings Time is messing us up.” If  they mean they think we are moving into Daylight Saving Time or if they think we should stay at Standard Time.  The fact that most of the posts I am seeing saying Daylight Savings Time (that wasn’t a typing error) make me think they don’t know what it is.

This is copied from my previous post:

A little history:

Daylight Saving Time had been observed in the United States spottily since 1918. From February 9, 1942 until September 30, 1945 it was observed all year long.  Daylight Saving Time was not consistently observed for 21 years (from 1945 to 1966) because there was no federal law.

In 1966 the law stated DST ran from the last Sunday in April to the last Sunday in October, but states could pass a law of their own if they didn’t want to follow DST.

Then in 1974 an emergency act was passed setting the clocks ahead on January 6, 1974. It was amended on October 27, 1974 returning the clocks back to Standard Time. Then DST was observed from February 23, 1975 through October 26, 1975.

Then from 1986 to 2007 the United States observed DST from 2:00 am on the first Sunday of April until at 2:00 a.m. on the last Sunday of October.

After 21 years in 2007 it was changed to:   DST beginning 2:00 am. on the second Sunday of March to 2:00 a.m. on the first Sunday of November.

Hawaii and Arizona are among the states that do not observe Daylight Saving Time.

—–

In 2018, California voters voted to pass a law that allows the Legislature to change the period of Daylight Saving Time and/or make is permanent.  “The measure repealed Proposition 12, also known as the Daylight Saving Time Act, in Section 6807 of the California Government Code. The measure added new text as Section 6808 of the state Government Code. If federal law authorizes the state to provide for the year-round application of daylight saving time and the Legislature considers the adoption of this application, it is the intent of the this act to encourage the Legislature to consider the potential impacts of year-round daylight saving time on communities along the border between California and other states and between California and Mexico. (ballotpedia.org)

I hope we will be told when the government decides to change the time.

What are your thoughts regarding time change and one or the other?
