One Last Christmas 2022

Posted by terrepruitt on January 13, 2023

We had to take down Christmas WAAAAAY earlier than I was thinking and earlier than I wanted to.  If I hadn’t been so busy, I would have spent this past week postings pictures of it to help with my melancholy.  I will try to make this my last Christmas 2022 picture post.  A Christmas tree closeup for my Friday Photo.  (I even have another photo all set to go for today, but I decided I wanted another Christmas shot!)

When do you typically take down your Christmas decorations?

Cork Christmas Trees

Posted by terrepruitt on January 4, 2023

I bought a project years ago that required corks. I had asked my family to save their wine corks for me. Well, it became a habit that never stopped and I never did the project. I have bags and bags of corks and I wanted to do something with them. My dream is a huge cork wreath, but as is my other habit I didn’t start thinking about doing something until late November and so I didn’t get to that particular cork craft, but I did make a few Christmas trees.  Trees that can serve as decorations around the Holidays.

As with most of my crafts they are an experiment that morphs as I create. The execution is pretty much never like the idea or design. Especially with cork. I didn’t really think about what a wine cork is (a bunch of pieces pressed together that don’t allow for a straight path through!) and it is dang inconvenient to work with.  Drilling or poking a whole STRAIGHT through a wine cork is kind of a joke, a little blob of cork will send the drill bit or poker in another direction. Corks also swell differently, so they end up not even. So, as you have seen and can see the trees end up a little “not perfect”.

I made a funky tree which I love. The idea was that it was not perfect just like a real tree. The person I made it for is very flexible and has always been really good (in my opinion) of embracing things and not having to have things be perfect or a specific way.  She is good at going with the flow.

I made a monogram tree for some of my family. And I made several of the little trees. Every time I showed one of the little ones to my husband he asked, “Is that ours?” So I got the impression he thought we needed one. So I made one for us. I think I am going to add some pins to it, but we will see.

I sent little ornaments along in case the recipients (of the funky tree and monogrammed tree) wanted to add more decorations.  The monogrammed one is actually somewhat plain to let the “B” show through.

I did realize as I was typing this that a cork wreath does not have to be for Christmas.  I hope to work on it through out the year!

Yay or nay to the cork trees?  Which tree do you like the best?

Strategic Placement Takes Time

Posted by terrepruitt on December 19, 2022

So, you may have seen my post where I mentioned decorating the ornament tree was not as easy as I had thought when I got it last year. And this is one reason why. First of all the nativity ornament is HUGE so I couldn’t hang a long ornament next to it because it got in the way. Then I had the idea to hang an angel by it (above it) because I thought that was artsy and smart (an angel over the nativity scene), but they (my angels) are all too big and bang against the bulb. I tried a few different things and realized that it was just going to be one of those things that happened. The angel was and is going to hit the nativity ornament. I believe the angel and the nativity bulb are the only ones that hit . . . at least they are the only ones that make a nerve wracking (are they going to break?  The sound itself is actually pleasant) noise. But they only snack each other when we are leaning over to plug and/or unplug the tree. Anyway . . . this is an example of why it takes so long . . . because I think I am being brilliant when I decorate. Ha, ha, ha, ha. Anyone else place their ornaments strategically?

My View Christmas 2022

Posted by terrepruitt on December 17, 2022

This is my view this season!  I love the lights and the decorations.  We purposely set up the Christmas tree so we have the best view.  From other angles it is either really hilarious or rather scary with the way the trunk is.  But from this angle it is great.  And the room is surrounded by lights.

Do you like a lot of lights for the Holidays?

Not As Easy As I Thought

Posted by terrepruitt on December 14, 2022

Here is our ornament tree. I thought having a metal tree to hang things on would make it simple, but it is a challenge to hang the ornaments. I mean, for me, I don’t want all balls or round ornaments. I don’t want it to end up being all snowflakes or hearts. I don’t want a clump of one color. And some ornaments are big and don’t allow other ornaments to hang next to them. It is not as easy I thought, but I do like it.

Christmas Tree 2022

Posted by terrepruitt on December 12, 2022

I cannot believe I missed a Friday Photo! There are only five Fridays in the month and I missed one. So I decided that I am just going to share a bunch of photos this month. I love lights and Christmas decorations and I spend a lot of time putting stuff up that no one really sees. I am fortunate that I am still Zooming my classes from home so my students see my tree, but if you have been around here for previous Christmases you know I love my ornaments and decorations, so I am just going to post when I want. It is my blog and I wonder why I still try to follow a posting schedule. Here is a picture of the Christmas tree almost done being decorated.  It was a challenge.

Do you put up a tree?  Do you decorate for the Holidays?

Not Ready To Give Up

Posted by terrepruitt on January 8, 2022

ARGH!  I thought I posted this on Friday, but Saturday I see that I didn’t.  So I am posting my Friday Photo on Saturday.  (*eye roll*, I know, I know.)

I wasn’t very into to decorating this year as I usually am. But since we got a tree and took everything down from storage, I did put up some decorations. Not as many lights as usual but some, plus the new metal tree. And now, of course, I don’t want to take it down. I like the lights – for one, and for two, I just don’t want to deal with it all – part of the reason I didn’t want to put it up in the first place. Now if I weren’t teaching and the tree wasn’t in the “studio” it wouldn’t be so bad, but since my students see my tree . . . . oh well. It went up late last year, I will take my time taking it down.  I was using the Twelve Days of Christmas as the excuse. The tree is not completely dead and scary so we will eek out a few more days.

The Christmas Tree as a Friday Photo in January! Can’t promise it will be the last as I just found another one I really like.

Christmas Joy

Posted by terrepruitt on December 17, 2021

Tis the season to share the Joy and my Christmas decorations. I love handmade cards. They are so pretty and special I save them and they become part of my Christmas decorations. Here is my newest.

A handmade Christmas card for my Friday Photo.

Do any of you save any of the pretty cards you get to use as decorations?

Tree Full Of Lights

Posted by terrepruitt on December 10, 2021

Finally got the tree up and the lights on tonight. So tempted to just leave it like this, no ornaments, just hundreds of lights! I love a lot of lights on a tree! Pretty much all Friday Photos in December (and even beyond) on Christmas decoration related. I do love my decorations even if I am not really wanting to put them up this year! Will probably do less this year.

Under The Christmas Tree

Posted by terrepruitt on January 1, 2021

While I am excited to leave the Christmas tree and decorations up for another week, I don’t think our cats are. But maybe. The tree is in the spot that their cat tower normally resides, but it is on a table so that they can still have access to the spot where the sun shines. Here is Teagan and Nessa for the first Friday Photo of 2021.
