Just Like My Christmas Decorations

Posted by terrepruitt on January 8, 2025

Just as I take a lot of pictures of our Christmas tree and Christmas decorations, I take a bunch of pictures of this drink.  This Sugar Cookie Martini is so pretty.  I love it.  It supposed to be made with red, white, and green sprinkles, but the first time we made it we couldn’t get those and now we kinda like it with the multi-color ones because it is sooooo festive!

Yes, this first one is very blurry, sorry!  But I just love to see the colors from the bottom.

It is fun to watch the progress of the color stripes move towards the bottom.

Some cocktails are just so pretty.  Do you have a pretty cocktail you like to make?  Do you have a Holiday drink you like to have over the Holidays?

Goat Yoga

Posted by terrepruitt on January 6, 2025

Many of you may have heard about things like cat yoga and goat yoga. To clarify I am talking about doing yoga with animals around not the animals themselves doing the yoga. There are places you can go and pay to do yoga with cats, but I have cats and I am often trying to do yoga or stretches around a cat(s). I have stretched my hand out only to have it land on a furry body or I have had my head butted while I was lying in shavasana. Over the 2024 summer I had a friend that kept sending me information on pig yoga, but I never wanted to go because it was outside in the summer and therefore, too hot. But I thought the month of October would be cooler and we could do yoga with goats. So we went.

Now, I figured they would be walking around and maybe getting in the way or nibbling on something, it completely slipped my mind that they might be pooping and urinating on things. I hadn’t thought of that at all. But that is one of the first things the helpers told us when they saw us with our yoga mats. They kindly offered us to use their yoga mats because goats “are barnyard animals and will poop and pee anywhere and even as they walk.”

As a note when one goes to do yoga with animals it is really about the experience of the animals and not so much the yoga. But while I was there I was still trying to do some asana. The helpers walk around and place food on everyone’s mats so that the goats move around and interact with everyone. And there may have been one helper per three people and they were very good at taking care of any goat incident right away. They would sweep up the pellets and get a new mat if needed.

It was an interesting experience. The goats were goats not kids, one was even VERY pregnant.

At the end we were all given the opportunity to pose with a goat. The goat herders actually placed the goat on our backs.  For some reason that goat was fine just standing there.  The helpers took over 40 pictures and videos.  It was kinda funny.  Perhaps he was tired because I was the last person he had to stand on.

You may see that one was getting very close to my face . . . .

Do you have any desire to do yoga with goats?

Gray Weather

Posted by terrepruitt on January 4, 2025

Don’t worry, I will not continue to post everyday.  I just wanted to post a bunch of my Christmas decorations pictures and then I keep having little thoughts.  Yesterday I had already posted my Friday Photo and I had a thought:  It was dark.  It had been dark a lot of December and so far a couple of days in January and I LOVE IT!  As soon as I realized it was dark I ran around turning on all the Christmas lights.  Now, I don’t mean DARK, I just mean, not sunny.  I love that it has been not sunny so much that I have been able to turn on the lights.  I think I mentioned it in another post because our Christmas tree looks like a dark blob on my Zoom classes, so the darker the day the better because then the Christmas tree lights show.  So just one more picture (I think).  All the lights are on in the late afternoon.

(From left to right) We have the tree, the garland, the lighted jar, the lighted cat, and the metal tree.

Ahhhhh, The Green Of Winter

Posted by terrepruitt on January 3, 2025

This is just grass or even weeds, and to some it may not be a big thing, but here in dry brown California, it is beautiful. I love the green of winter. It will not be that way for long and as I was walking down the street it struck me how green it was and what a huge patch of green it was. So, I took a picture. I will look at it during the dry brown months.  Starting off the year with a picture of greenery for the Friday Photo.

SAD, But For The Holidays

Posted by terrepruitt on January 2, 2025

Many of you may have heard of SAD, I posted about it in February of 2012. According to the Mayo Clinic’s website “Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that’s related to changes in seasons — seasonal affective disorder (SAD) begins and ends at about the same times every year. If you’re like most people with SAD, your symptoms start in the fall and continue into the winter months, sapping your energy and making you feel moody.” If you have wintertime SAD the symptoms usually disappear in the spring.

I have a different kind of SAD, I love winter so it is not a depression of the CHANGING of the season, it is the ENDING of the HOLIDAY season. I get sad when it ends. I love all the decorations, I get sad when I have to take my Christmas decorations down and pack them away for another year. It is a bummer when we don’t have fun Christmas lights to light up the living space. I think that is one reason I like to keep “Christmas” up as long as possible. I miss the decorations and what goes along with them—the festive feelings. To me it seems like a collective vibe. People are anticipating parties and time off, and when it is over, it is as if the energy goes down.

I feel the same way when local sporting teams are in a championship game. I don’t care about sports at all, but when a local team is going to a game of all games the city seems alive with positive energy. And when they lose it is like a blanket over things.

So, I think I have a form of SAD . . . but for the Holidays. My SAD can be helped by keeping Christmas decorations up, but I still miss the collective energy.

What about you? How do you feel about taking things down?

Happy New Year – 2025!

Posted by terrepruitt on January 1, 2025

Happy New Year!

I am not sure that we have had cheese fondue every New Year’s Eve, but apparently we have had it enough that several people I know asked me if we were going to have it for this New Year’s Eve.  We had not planned on it.  We talked about it but on the night BEFORE New Year’s Eve, we didn’t have all the things we like and instead of rallying to get what we needed we decided not to do it.  But then, when it came time to cook dinner on New Year’s Eve I realized I didn’t know what to cook and figured I might as well make fondue.  We didn’t have EVERYTHING we normally like, but we had enough to make the fondue.  So we ended up having cheese fondue for New Year’s Eve in 2024.

I recently had a student contact me and say she was looking for a cheese fondue recipe and mine  came up (several results down, but still)!  That made me very happy.   As my post states, it is a recipe that my mom searched high and low for.  I don’t know where she ended up getting it for if she cobbled it together from other recipes, but it was the closest she could come to the cheese fondue she loved from The Bold Knight.

Do you have a traditional New Year’s Eve dinner?  Did you have a special New Year’s Eve dinner in 2024?

On The Seventh Day Of Christmas

Posted by terrepruitt on December 31, 2024

Here we are, the seventh day of the 12 Days of Christmas. And it is New Year’s Eve. It is going to be 2025 tomorrow. Wow. Here is another picture of our Christmas Tree. The star topper is just plain, but it tends to catch the light and make lovely reflections on the wall. I bought a new one this year (a metal gold star) so this may be the last year for this plastic one. We will see. But this is a delightful shot of it.

Happy New Year!

The shadow and the reflection are more visible than the topper itself.

2024 Christmas Cards

Posted by terrepruitt on December 30, 2024

Usually I tape cards up on the walls. But our walls were just painted this year so I didn’t want to chance it with tape, so I used some sparkly string I used to use years ago. I love Christmas cards. Such a festive way to keep in touch.

Do you display your Christmas cards?

Trader Joe’s Loaf And Cookie Mix

Posted by terrepruitt on December 29, 2024

My friend bought this mix and said it made really good cookies so I wanted to try them. What intrigued me is that it is a loaf mix and a cookie mix. I have not made the loaf yet. I had bought it to make cookies and take them to a gathering but the gathering got cancelled. Since I had a few boxes I still made the cookies just not for the gathering. I was a little concerned they would be too pepperminty because every time I opened the oven my eyes would tingle from the mint.

They are not pepperminty, to me, they are like thick brownie cookies. They are good.

The directions say to make dough balls and roll them in powered sugar.  I don’t like that part.  I never do it right.  So I used a small container to “roll” them in the powdered sugar. I liked that method as it coated them very well. I am sure I got the idea from somewhere but have no idea where and I am glad I thought of it. In the pictures it is difficult to see the dough ball in the container because it is so well coated.

I will let you know how the loaf turns out when I make it. It will probably be after the holidays because we received a lot of yummy treats so will want to finish those first.

Do you do any baking for Christmas or the Holidays?
