You Would Never Know

By this photo you would never know how sweet this girl is. Here she looks as if she is planning something not-so-nice for all of her “subjects” below. She was really just up there minding her own business and then her mom starting shouting at her to get her to look at the camera. Yeah, I would look like that too if someone kept yelling my name.

Silky Kitty

This is our silky soft girl. She is a big sweetie. She often sits and stares at me. When we first got her she wouldn’t look you in the eyes — now she will stare me down! She is a beauty as you may know from past Friday Photos. Also, as you many know, I have thousands of pictures of our cats!

Promoting Black Cat Adoption

From what I understand today (October 27th) is National Black Cat Day. Some places say National Black Cat “Appreciation” Day as the day was created to help promote black cats. They historically have a low adoption rate from shelters because some people believe black cats to be bad luck. I personally don’t believe that, but if someone does that is their prerogative. But what I try to do is counter that belief by educating people that don’t have a fear of black cats, to get one when they can.
When I went searching for a cat I wanted A cat. I found one and was told she was bonded with her sister and that we needed to take two. I really didn’t want to. The person in charge said that she would let us just take the one but her sister was black and would have a hard time being adopted. First of all she had to tell me her sister was black because I had never seen her, she hid the whole time, second of all I didn’t want two.
Eventually we decided to take them both and of course we are so glad we did. They are hilarious together and both so sweet. The black one talks so much and it very entertaining.
Anyway . . . National Black Cat Day. When you go to adopt a cat, if you can, if black cats hold no negative meaning for you, check out the black ones.
I wrote a post about luck and black cats a couple of years ago, and, no, Teagan is not magically hanging on to her tower, the photo is flipped because the place I have it stored has changed stuff. I may or may not get around to fixing it . . . but it is really the eyes.
Today she was complaining about me to me because I was following her around trying to get a picture of her. She doesn’t like the mama-razzi/paparazzi. So here she is scratching out her annoyance. “Get the camera out of my face, mom.”

Hummingbird Card From Girls

I was doing some yoga or stretching and I notice a sparkle behind something. This card had fallen behind some furniture. I think it is lovely and a way for me to document some of the lovely cards I have received is to put them on my blog. To me, they make a good Friday Photo.

Cats At Play

Since my job is that of a movement instructor I don’t get up and get ready with showering and make-up. When I first started teaching I tried that because I didn’t like to face people without make-up but it just ended up smudged all over my face and so I had to give that up. It made it quick to get ready in the morning. I could basically get up twenty minutes before I had to leave. But I feel that I have an additional job that requires I wake up at least an hour before I need to start getting ready (even though I (currently) teach from home via Zoom, there is still some getting ready that is required). The hour before I need to start getting ready is used for playing with our cats. For those of you that know cats, you know that the entire time playing with cats isn’t necessarily spent actually PLAYING, but I try.
I have learned that sometimes it is not about the action or the toy. I believe that sometimes they just like to do the waiting game together. You know the one where someone just swings the flyer back and forth (or up and down) and they just sit there watching and waiting? They seem content to just let me play with the toy. And while I sometimes get bored and frustrated I really do believe that is part of the play for them and they enjoy it. We are together.
Recently it occurred to me that I am dang fortunate that waiving a toy around or using one to poke under the Ripple Rug is entertainment to them. I remember thinking one morning how funny it was that something so simple brings them so much joy. Then my “oh, how funny” turned into “Thank God!” What if they required something more complicated? What if I had to come up with challenging things above and beyond a change of toy or an occasional “adventure” here or there? Egads I would be in trouble.
I do feel that indoor cats can become bored and that is why I get up every day with the sole purpose of playing with them, and I do think they need a change of pace every once in a while, but I grateful for the most part that they find so much joy in the simple things.
