Ha! I figured it out. I figured out how to “have” our Christmas Tree year round. I just made a picture of it my wallpaper. :-). So now when I turn on my laptop I see my tree and it makes me happy. I was noticing when I saw pictures on my phone of our tree it made me happy so it occurred to me I could just make it my wallpaper so I would see it almost everyday! YAY! This photo is actually of the tree with just the lights. I may go through my many photos and find one with all the ornaments. That was one heck of a tree.
We put it outside and it sat there for a few days, then my hubby cut it up, readying it for pick up in a couple of days and it was still green. It still smelled fresh. Pretty good. The longest we have had a tree up. And now it is “up” all year – if I want.

P.S. Cheers to my mom (it is her birthday).

Don’t worry, I will not continue to post everyday. I just wanted to post a bunch of my Christmas decorations pictures and then I keep having little thoughts. Yesterday I had already posted my Friday Photo and I had a thought: It was dark. It had been dark a lot of December and so far a couple of days in January and I LOVE IT! As soon as I realized it was dark I ran around turning on all the Christmas lights. Now, I don’t mean DARK, I just mean, not sunny. I love that it has been not sunny so much that I have been able to turn on the lights. I think I mentioned it in another post because our Christmas tree looks like a dark blob on my Zoom classes, so the darker the day the better because then the Christmas tree lights show. So just one more picture (I think). All the lights are on in the late afternoon.
(From left to right) We have the tree, the garland, the lighted jar, the lighted cat, and the metal tree.

Many of you may have heard of SAD, I posted about it in February of 2012. According to the Mayo Clinic’s website “Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that’s related to changes in seasons — seasonal affective disorder (SAD) begins and ends at about the same times every year. If you’re like most people with SAD, your symptoms start in the fall and continue into the winter months, sapping your energy and making you feel moody.” If you have wintertime SAD the symptoms usually disappear in the spring.
I have a different kind of SAD, I love winter so it is not a depression of the CHANGING of the season, it is the ENDING of the HOLIDAY season. I get sad when it ends. I love all the decorations, I get sad when I have to take my Christmas decorations down and pack them away for another year. It is a bummer when we don’t have fun Christmas lights to light up the living space. I think that is one reason I like to keep “Christmas” up as long as possible. I miss the decorations and what goes along with them—the festive feelings. To me it seems like a collective vibe. People are anticipating parties and time off, and when it is over, it is as if the energy goes down.
I feel the same way when local sporting teams are in a championship game. I don’t care about sports at all, but when a local team is going to a game of all games the city seems alive with positive energy. And when they lose it is like a blanket over things.
So, I think I have a form of SAD . . . but for the Holidays. My SAD can be helped by keeping Christmas decorations up, but I still miss the collective energy.
What about you? How do you feel about taking things down?

This is our 2024 Christmas Tree. This is the “Lights Only Stage”. There is a cat under it. We put our tree by a window and windows are a place for cats. So it is just easier to have it on a table. That way the cats still have access to the window and we are not having to clean up needles that they may knock off while getting to the window.
Here is the first of many Christmas photos for today’s Friday Photo.
How is your December going so far?

I do love all the decorations. When do you take yours down? Do you take stuff down after the Twelve Days of Christmas? Do you embrace the Epiphany and take the Christmas decorations after? Do you take stuff down the day after Christmas? Do you take decorations down on New Year’s Day? I like to wait as long as possible, but usually our tree dictates when we take it down. Sometimes it lasts longer than others. Last year I was sad because it was a great tree and would have lasted until February but we had to rush to take it down because we had workers coming in. So sad. I am not sure this one will last until the 12th day of Christmas, but we will see.
Putting decorations up and taking them down has been a bit of a challenge these past years because I use our living room as my yoga/Nia/stretch Zoom studio so I have to keep the area clean and open . . . when in the past I could have boxes and ornaments all over. We will see how it goes this year.
So . . . when do you “undecorate”?

This is my view this season! I love the lights and the decorations. We purposely set up the Christmas tree so we have the best view. From other angles it is either really hilarious or rather scary with the way the trunk is. But from this angle it is great. And the room is surrounded by lights.

Do you like a lot of lights for the Holidays?

Finally got the tree up and the lights on tonight. So tempted to just leave it like this, no ornaments, just hundreds of lights! I love a lot of lights on a tree! Pretty much all Friday Photos in December (and even beyond) on Christmas decoration related. I do love my decorations even if I am not really wanting to put them up this year! Will probably do less this year.

Last year a friend gave me a Bath & Body Works candle in a jar. It smelled so yummy I bought a bunch of them when they were on sale. But I have an issue with throwing “jars” away. Jarred candles feel much safer in that the flame is in a glass container, so I primarily purchase those type of candles (aside from tealight which I then put in containers). I just don’t like throwing the jar away. Last year I painted jars that I had from candles and gave them as gifts. But this year I am not seeing anyone and with a dance studio in our living room I didn’t want to take up the dining room table with crafts. But I did have those Bath & Body Works jars to deal with. And actually it started with a vase that I got for my birthday.
I always have pine cones as part of my decorations, but I don’t always put them all out. This year I stuck them in a square vase I had received with flowers in it for my birthday. I put a cork light in it and I really liked it. So I got the idea to fill it with Christmas ornaments and give it to my friend. I had NO idea what to get her and so I thought this would be nice. It is an really easy thing to decorate with and it has a pop. I had ordered pink and silver ornaments, but they sent me red and gold. The delivery had already been delayed so I wouldn’t have been able to get a replacement in time . . . plus the red ones were ok. But the pink and silver would have been awesome. (She’ll never know.)
So, I filled the jar with the ornaments to see how they would fit. Then I took them out and put in the light. I ended up doing that several times until I was finally satisfied. I didn’t use any glue so it was quite easy to rearrange things. Then I tied a bow around it and whamo! INSTANT light up Christmas decoration.
I loved it so much I thought about the Bath & Body Works candle jars! So I filled two of those with ornaments and cork lights. With these two jars I ended up getting new cork lights and they are pretty cool. They have different settings and a timer. Seems like they improve the lights every year.
So, I am super happy. I really like these decorations. I like to make stuff and I love to be able to recycle. And like I said, I think they have a big pop. Anything that lights up POPS to me.
I have a lot of Bath & Body Works candles to burn so I am sure I will fill the emptied jars with other things and give them as gifts. The possibilities are endless, they don’t have to be filled with Christmasy stuff!
I think these are adorable (yes, a little horn tooting), what do you think? Do you like to make gifts?
