Some friends visited from out of town and stayed in Santa Cruz not far from the ocean. I have many photos from the delightful yard that I will be posting. It was a colorful and very fun yard!

We went to Capitola to have breakfast on Thanksgiving as we have done the last three years. Nothing was open for a full breakfast, but we got coffee and a burrito (John) and a bagel (me) at Mr. Toot’s. I had never been there so I was happy. It was a GORGEOUS day. We had just gotten a bit of rain and that helped wash the air of the smoke that we have been having from the fire that was almost 200 miles away.
We had a nice time. It was so beautiful I took a bunch of pictures I have to share at least one for the Friday Photo.

I posted a picture of the ocean from the wharf back in April, but here is the entrance to the wharf. It was a beautiful day, but most days are when you can spend it with your Sweetie at the ocean.
A Friday Photo of the Capitola Wharf Entrance.

Last month my husband and I decided we need some ocean time. We went up to Capitola for breakfast. I was looking forward to sitting on the beach and enjoying the ocean. But we just had breakfast and took a walk to the wharf then headed home. It was a very short little visit. It was a very nice day.
Here is a shot from the Capitola Wharf for today’s Friday Photo.

The weather was great in Capitola yesterday, Thanksgiving 2017. The past two years we have been going “over the hill” (that is what we call it because we have to drive over a hill) for breakfast on Thanksgiving. The first year was easy. The second . . . not so much as we couldn’t find any place open that we wanted to go to. But we ended up where we didn’t know that we wanted to be and it was fine. This year all the places we called were not open, but we found a place serving breakfast anyway and it worked out ok. It was not hot nor cold. The temperature was great. But it was so bright, I couldn’t see to take pictures. I did take a few anyway . . . but I didn’t really know what they looked like. They turned out ok. Here is one shot from Twin Lakes for the Friday Photo.
Did you have a nice Thanksgiving?

Well, let’s get back to it with a Friday Photo.
This is just a lovely shot (I think) from a trip to the ocean for my birthday a couple of months ago.

My last post having something to do with the beach was in April, when my hubby and I had a little get-away. While many people go to the beach much more often, it is pretty good for me to have gotten to the beach again only four and a half months later. I was going with a friend to take a Nia class over the hill. After the class we were going to go have breakfast then go to the ocean. We always figure if we drive over the hill we might as well go to the ocean. Turns out, the Nia class wasn’t being held but we decided to go over the hill anyway. First we had breakfast at a place not too far from the ocean. Then we sat there, at the breakfast place, talking for about an hour. It was kind of overcast and we had no plans so we weren’t in a hurry. But we finally did make it to the beach. It was awesome. Just a handful of people and a nice little cloud cover. First we walked one way on the beach, then back the other way. Then we decided to sit down. The weather was perfect! The sun actually came out around noon. We just talked and enjoyed the ocean. We were immersing ourselves in the negative ions.
I had heard this a long time ago, but never looked into it until now. And I barely glanced into it. But I can tell you that what I am seeing out there in the way of information is that the air is full of invisible particles called ions. Sometimes these ions can be positively charged or negatively charged. Oddly enough, it is the negatively charged or “negative ions” that can possibly have a positive effect on us.
According to an article on WebMD:
The director of research at the Center for Applied Cognitive Sciences in Charlotte, N.C. is quoted as saying, “Generally speaking, negative ions increase the flow of oxygen to the brain; resulting in higher alertness, decreased drowsiness, and more mental energy.”
The article further states:
Once they reach our bloodstream, negative ions are believed to produce biochemical reactions that increase levels of the mood chemical serotonin, helping to alleviate depression, relieve stress, and boost our daytime energy.
When I heard of negative ions long ago, I had only heard of the ocean as being a place to experience them. Or if other places were mentioned I only remember the ocean. But the WebMD article mentions mountains, waterfalls, and even the shower. So there might be more to it than just feeling good when you are in these places because you are not at work. It could be because of the negative ions in the air.
Unfortunately watching the video or playing it on your computer or device will not give you the same effects. No negative ions via video, but I thought I would share it anyway. Along with some pictures.
My friend and I sure enjoyed our breakfast and our ocean time.
Would you rather go to the mountains or the ocean?

Happy Thanksgiving 2015. This year is a bit different. We normally gather at John’s sister’s house, but she and her hubby had other plans for this Thanksgiving. Since I didn’t have a Nia class this morning, I had an idea about breakfast and the beach. There was a place in Santa Cruz that I wanted to try for breakfast but I called the day before and they said they would be closed on Thanksgiving. My hubby found two places in Capitola that seemed like they would be good. But but the time I got his text regarding the places, both were closed. Only one had a website that I could find, so I took a chance and sent an e-mail asking if they would be open. The e-mail was answered with a yes. So my hubby and I went to Avenue Cafe for breakfast. It was super yummy. John got Eggs Benedict because he loves it. If we go to breakfast and the restaurant serves it, that is what he will get. I got a Florentine Scramble. It was very good. I am looking forward to having the leftovers for breakfast tomorrow. It was a great morning in Capitola.
Some of you may be familiar with beach towns and the heat and the crowd. Well, usually Capitola is very crowded. Parking is almost impossible to find. But today, parking was Free! The meters were covered with plastic coated canvas “bags” that said, “Seasons Greetings – 3 hour free parking”. I thought to take a picture but I knew that I would have many other pictures I would rather post, so I didn’t. But it is very cool to have the gift of free parking! Yay! And there actually was parking when we arrived. We got to the shore about 11:15.
First we sat on a bench and enjoyed the ocean. Then we walked. We walked to one end and back, then to the other end and back. Then almost back to the other end. We did a bit of retracing of steps.
The weather was gorgeous and the crowds were non-existent.
I was taking pictures . . . . as usual . . . not being able to actually see what I was capturing. It is just so bright out there, I can’t really see. Twice I thought I was taking a picture and I was taking a video. On our way home, I glanced at the pictures quickly to see if I had any I could use for a post. I laughed because it was just so beautiful it didn’t really matter that I couldn’t really see, anywhere I pointed my camera or phone, I got a great shot. Ok, not all of them are great, but most of them. When I was trying to get us in the shot . . . no, but just the ocean . . . yeah.
I even got a couple with the sun reflecting nicely in the shot.
We are now waiting for the roast to be done so we can have dinner.
So here was our Thanksgiving morning. I hope you enjoy looking at the beautiful Pacific Ocean. We enjoyed it. I also hope you had a great day — a Happy Thanksgiving if that is your custom or just a great Thursday.
What did you do?

Sometimes I just can’t think of anything to write about. Sometimes it could be that I want or need a break. So today — I am just going to post some pictures. We have been having really beautiful weather in the San Francisco South Bay Area and beyond. I love it, but I wish we would have rain because we need it. But . . . it is Spring now . . . so I will enjoy it.
.
.
The first few pictures are from a trip to Natural Bridges — a state park in the Santa Cruz area of California. Whenever we go to Santa Cruz for a Nia class we like to stop by the ocean. Santa Cruz is not that far from San Jose, but I just don’t get over there often. When I make the drive over I like to at least set my eyes on the ocean. I remembered my phone has panorama. The bridge that was natural actually collapsed a while ago, but it is still a very pretty spot.
Then, the next week, I was “over the hill” again. I was visiting a friend who is moving. She wanted to get the kids out of the house on such a gorgeous day. This is a slide at one of the parks. WOW!
.
.
And, of course, I take a million pictures of my cat, so I thought I would share.
.
She likes to be in her outside house but with the door open. She loves the sun, but doesn’t like to get too hot.
Then there are our roses. They are in bloom. They are beautiful. And, yes, they smell fantastic.
I like to bring the beauty inside. They make the house smell great!
Thanks for taking this little Spring Break with me!
Are you enjoying the season?
