How Are Your Resolutions Going?

Posted by terrepruitt on January 13, 2015

We are almost half way through the first month of the year. So it might be a little late for me to be talking about resolutions, but I was wondering about them. I was wondering about yours. Do you make New Year’s Resolutions? If so how are you doing on them or with them? I know there are different types of resolutions. There are those that are long term so thirteen days in to the New Year you might not have any progress on them. Some, though, might be the ones you’ve resolved to do daily or that you would have progress on or with just shortly into the New Year. How are you doing on them? What are they? I don’t make resolutions so I have nothing to report, but I was wondering about you. I was wondering if you would like to share the status of your resolutions.

Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia in the City of San Jose, Nia at the San Jose Community Centers, Nia classes in the South Bay, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, San Jose Nia, Nia San Jose, Nia workout, Nia, Gentle Yoga, Group Ex City of San Jose, San Jose Group Ex classes, YMCA, Zumba, PiYoIf I were the type to make resolutions, I would have made one that had to do with getting my stuff straightened up and out a bit. I was planning on cleaning out some stuff last year but then my mom died and I ended up with a lot of her stuff. I’m a bit of a hoarder with some thing so it is not easy for me to just get rid of stuff. But doing so, getting rid of stuff is always on my mind. To me, since it is always on my mind and it is a constant thing that needs to be done, I don’t think of it as a New Year’s Resolution.

Things often seem to get in the way of me doing any kind of cleaning out. Not easy to get going on sorting out when other things “come up” since I would rather be doing just about anything, but cleaning out closets. One thing that has come up – I am hosting a special Nia Class and Nia Playshop. Granted these events are going to be in March. There is still a lot to be done in the beginning. It takes time to work out the details and secure the venue. I would much rather be creating flyers and other marketing material than going through stuff and deciding what to get rid of. I will eventually have information on my site about the Nia Events, but for now I will say one will be a Nia Class done to 80s music and the playshop is going to be a Nia Free Dance Playshop! Mark your calendars for Friday, March 27, 2015 and Saturday, March 28, 2015.

See, I get distracted by new and exciting things. Regardless of whether you make resolutions or not, I do hope your 2015 is starting out wonderful and continues on the path of being a spectacular year.  I hope that you succeed in your goals, if you are the type to make them.

What about New Year’s Resolutions? Do you make them? How are you doing with them? Do you get distracted from you resolutions?

Clearing Up Death

Posted by terrepruitt on December 6, 2014

In addition to oiling my buffet in preparation for Christmas Decorations, I also took down all the “Death Cards”.  The top of the buffet was crammed full of cards I received because of the deaths that have occurred this year.  If you have read my blog for a bit you probably know about my mom dying.  She died in April.  It was sudden to me, yet it dragged out for 10 days while she waited, with a tube in her throat, unable to speak, for the doctors to take the tube out so she could die.  But then she didn’t die for another 11 days.  I have a separate page here on my blog for her.  You are probably aware of the death of our cat.  She was so sweet.  I like to think she was an angel and I will see her again.  I know she did a lot for the people she encountered.  But you might not know about my brother.  Yeah, he was the first one to die.  He died in January.  I got a call from my niece saying he was dead.

Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia at the City of San Jose, Nia classes in the South Bay, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, San Jose Nia, Nia San Jose, Nia workout, Nia, Zumba, PiYo, Gentle Yoga, Group Ex City of San Jose, San Jose Group Ex classes, YMCANow, I haven’t mentioned my brother because at the time there was some legal issues or more accurately there COULD have been legal issues.  My brother was a widower and a single parent.  He and his daughter lived in another state and we needed to get her guardianship and all that stuff taken care of before word got out.  My niece has life goals so she wanted to finish her school year up where she lived before she relocated.  So she was top priority.  By the time everything was straightened out AND I felt like sharing about his death, my mom got sick.  I literally was going to post about my brother that week.

My mom was waiting to die for a long time (as I mentioned).  She went in the hospital for one thing, she was told they could “fix it”, but then they decided they couldn’t and told her she had to decide when to die.  Not an easy choice.  She picked a day and it didn’t go as they had thought.  So that was another process.  During all of this I was focused on her.  And I thought that (think that) the way people die in the United States is so horrific, I was writing posts about that.  I was dealing with all of that.  I was not sharing about my brother.

Then, our cat died.  As I have mentioned in other posts, I am not really a writer.  I had never really experienced the “release” people get from writing or journaling.  But with posting about my mom and the cat I kinda understood.  Plus, it is soooo amazingly helpful to get support from people all over, close-in-person friends as well as people who I have never met face-to-face but have online relationships with.  So I was supported by that.

Now my mom’s memorial is over.  People keep questioning me about getting another cat.  With life moving on, I feel I am ready to share.  I feel I need to tell the world about my brother’s death.  Since I shared about all the other deaths, his should not go unmentioned.

I thought it would be appropriate to share now, while I am putting away all the cards of love — because that is what they really are.  They are notes and cards of expressions of love ABOUT death.  It was so heart-warming to have received those tokens.  It is nice to have them still.

For those that want more details, because death makes us curious, my brother was 48, he was not in the best of health and he died of an aneurysm.  It is ok to be curious.  That is human nature.  You are welcome to ask more questions if you want.  I reserve the right to answer them in a reply on my blog or privately via e-mail, though.  There might be more posts in the future . . . but for now here it is.

My awesome neice has since been relocated and is doing well.  She is awesome because life at her age is “hard” enough without all the stuff she has been given to deal with.  We have yet to see how it all turns out.

So, take a moment, if you knew my brother or not . . . . . thanks.

Pull My Hair

Posted by terrepruitt on September 4, 2014

Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia at the City of San Jose, Nia classes in the South Bay, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, San Jose Nia, Nia San Jose, You may have read my post regarding my Home Gym Machine (click here to go there).   It is great, but it takes up a lot of room.  When our cat died this year I decided to use some of the space that was hers for my machine.  You may also know, if you have read a few of my blog posts that my mom died this year.  You may have figured out that she was sick for a bit.  She had a couple of cancers and with the second one that took over a year to diagnose, her prescribed treatment was chemotherapy.  She opted to do it.  One of her first shared thoughts was that she would lose her hair.  She had very thin hair, but she did all she could to make it pretty.  And she succeed.  She wasn’t much to discuss things like dying and how she really felt about her illness so I don’t know for certain, but I think her focus on her hair was a way of distracting herself.  In addition to her looking at wigs and we looked at things that could cover her head.  What does that have to do with they BodyShop . . . the name of the Total Gym like machine?  Well, I learned a valuable lesson.  Even though my hair is short, cover it up because the pulleys will do exactly that —- PULL.  My hair, that is.  The pulleys pull my hair.  So I have to cover it.

Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia at the City of San Jose, Nia classes in the South Bay, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, San Jose Nia, Nia San Jose, My mom didn’t lose all her hair.  It started to fall out and get more thin, but she died before she lost all of it.  But she never used her Buffs that we bought her.  Now I use them.  I keep one hanging over the foot board of my machine (you may have seen it in the picture on the Home Gym Machine post.  So I just slip it on when before I get on.  It makes me hot.  I don’t like things on my head.  But I like my hair getting ripped out of my head even less.

I am glad I am getting use out of the hair cover ups.  And I am happy I am not getting my hair pulled out by the pulleys.  Weird things that come from death.

I keep my hair short because it looks better drying on its own after a Nia class, than if I had long hair.  (My hair gets very wet when I teach).  My hair isn’t really long enough to “put up”.  As you can see from the little picture.  I certainly didn’t think it was long enough to be pulled.  It could be that it is not really getting caught up in the pulleys as the pulleys are pulling it.  Whether it be against the bar or the back rest.  I don’t know because I am unable to see, but I certainly feel the pull and, “No thanks.”

So the point of this post is to share with you before you pull your hair out.  Cover up your hair.

Have you ever had your hair pulled by a machine?  Do you put your hair up?  Do you cover your hair?
