From August 2022 – Rose Garden Flower

Posted by terrepruitt on January 20, 2023

So I have had this Rose Garden picture ready for my Friday Photo since before Thanksgiving and now I am finally posting it. I could easily continue with the Christmas pictures, but I imagine you all may be tired of them. Ha, you may be tired of the Rose Garden photos, too. Oh well. I think this is my last one.

Here is another rose from my Rose Garden visit in August. I think I may be at the end of my roses but I will have to check one more time.

One Last Christmas 2022

Posted by terrepruitt on January 13, 2023

We had to take down Christmas WAAAAAY earlier than I was thinking and earlier than I wanted to.  If I hadn’t been so busy, I would have spent this past week postings pictures of it to help with my melancholy.  I will try to make this my last Christmas 2022 picture post.  A Christmas tree closeup for my Friday Photo.  (I even have another photo all set to go for today, but I decided I wanted another Christmas shot!)

When do you typically take down your Christmas decorations?

Substitution In Red Beans And Rice

Posted by terrepruitt on January 9, 2023

Sometimes I mess up my own plans. I was wanting to make Red Beans and Rice so I had my husband (he does the shopping) get four bell peppers. Some of them were for our New Year’s Eve dinner of cheese fondue, and I had planned on using one for the Red Beans and Rice. Well, our fondue was so good that I made it again and didn’t even think about needing a green bell pepper for something else and I used up all of our bell peppers. So when I went to put it in the Red Beans it was gone. Grrrr! But . . . I had some bok choy and I used that.

It was fine. The bok choy doesn’t really add any flavor like a green bell pepper would, but it was good.

So, I am just making a note for myself and letting you know that bok choy in the Red Beans and Rices works good.

Also noting: I have been using white rice and I have doubled the cumin and thyme thyme to 1 teaspoon (from 1/2).

And, yes, in case you are not familiar, I put chickpeas/garbanzo bean in my Red Beans and Rice because I don’t really like red beans/kidney beans, but I do like garbanzo beans.

Our Little Cork Christmas Tree

Posted by terrepruitt on January 6, 2023

So this is our little cork Christmas tree. I put a picture of it in my last post, but I mentioned maybe adding pins and I did so I am posting it again. On the other ones I made I put a ribbon around the top cork so it could be hung, but I didn’t do that with this one. So I guess it will be a sitting decoration.

Our cork Christmas tree is my Friday Photo today.

What do you think?  Do the pins even matter?

Cork Christmas Trees

Posted by terrepruitt on January 4, 2023

I bought a project years ago that required corks. I had asked my family to save their wine corks for me. Well, it became a habit that never stopped and I never did the project. I have bags and bags of corks and I wanted to do something with them. My dream is a huge cork wreath, but as is my other habit I didn’t start thinking about doing something until late November and so I didn’t get to that particular cork craft, but I did make a few Christmas trees.  Trees that can serve as decorations around the Holidays.

As with most of my crafts they are an experiment that morphs as I create. The execution is pretty much never like the idea or design. Especially with cork. I didn’t really think about what a wine cork is (a bunch of pieces pressed together that don’t allow for a straight path through!) and it is dang inconvenient to work with.  Drilling or poking a whole STRAIGHT through a wine cork is kind of a joke, a little blob of cork will send the drill bit or poker in another direction. Corks also swell differently, so they end up not even. So, as you have seen and can see the trees end up a little “not perfect”.

I made a funky tree which I love. The idea was that it was not perfect just like a real tree. The person I made it for is very flexible and has always been really good (in my opinion) of embracing things and not having to have things be perfect or a specific way.  She is good at going with the flow.

I made a monogram tree for some of my family. And I made several of the little trees. Every time I showed one of the little ones to my husband he asked, “Is that ours?” So I got the impression he thought we needed one. So I made one for us. I think I am going to add some pins to it, but we will see.

I sent little ornaments along in case the recipients (of the funky tree and monogrammed tree) wanted to add more decorations.  The monogrammed one is actually somewhat plain to let the “B” show through.

I did realize as I was typing this that a cork wreath does not have to be for Christmas.  I hope to work on it through out the year!

Yay or nay to the cork trees?  Which tree do you like the best?
