When I took this I thought it was cute. Just now when I went to post it I thought they looked like beans or half moons. Then I realized they were kitty beans. Ha, ha, ha, what? Just me?

Ok, so it is not really an “update” because there isn’t really anything to update you all about. They are fine. And I know that my blog is not really a cat blog. But . . . I just think they are so cute and so beautiful. I also think that many animal parents feel the same way so they can relate. With that in mind, I also think that I will be forgiven for posting pictures of my beautiful girls.
They are so sweet. I might have mentioned in the past that Esmeralda seemed a little mean and would beat up on her sister when her sister got attention. Well, either it happens now when I am not looking or she doesn’t do that any longer. And Smokey has been a little (just a teeny tiny bit) more receptive to hugs and kisses. Smokey also isn’t really a fan of getting her picture taken. Plus she is really hard to get a good picture of. Those are two reasons why there are more pictures of Esmeralda.
They are very good girls. They are constantly entertained by what is going on in the yard. I think that is awesome. Since it is so hot here have all the sliders open and the girls spend the evenings running from one door to another to another. They are entertained. They get exercise. Plus it entertains us. It is funny to look up and see a flat cat slinking across the room to a window. Most of the time it is cause for a double take; “Did I just see? Yup. A flat cat.”
The place where we got them, The Dancing Cat, has adopted out 73 cats so far. That is really great. Some, like ours, come in pairs. I am confident that they will reach 100. I am hoping they will PASS 100. Even though it is being called a cat adoption lounge, it is really a cool place to just go and hang out with cats. You don’t even have to be interested in adopting a cat. I am planning on going with a friend this week. I am not in the market for another cat. I just like meeting the cats and supporting the place. I hope that, if you are at all interested in cats and you are in the area, you will visit. I believe the plan is to be open into November (2016). It is a fun place to hang out . . . if you like cats.
Do you like cats? Would you like to hang out with them for an hour? Purrhaps play get the string?

Because it has been a while since I posted about my darling little cats, I thought I would share some pictures of them. They are very good cats even though they do “cat” things that I would prefer they not do. Such as pull the roses out of the vases or knock over the vases. And knocking things off of tables and counters. They, of course, are not allowed on places where we eat and/or have food, so that means tables and counters are off-limits. They do a good job of not being on them — while we are able to see, but often times in the morning there will be evidence that someone has been on one of those forbidden surfaces and knocked somethings down or even off. They are cats, they are curious. They get a scolding that barely interrupts their whatever-it-is-that-they-are-doing when said offense is discovered. But overall they are great girlies! I have hundreds of pictures of them. Most of the photos are of them while they are sleeping, they are so cute when they lie all over each other. We enjoy having them.
Also, it might be that I am inspired to do a cat post because the place where we found our two lovely cats is opening again. It is the adoption venue called The Dancing Cat. I used to call it a cat cafe, but they don’t really sell cafe food as do some cat cafes. I’ve seen them call it a cat lounge and that sounds good, but then people might not know what that is. In 2015 it was planned to be a 4 week “pop-up event”, but it proved to be a hit and ended up lasting 6 months. So they are bringing it back in the same place — for now. Information on the website says they are looking for a permanent location in San Jose. They are opening again on Saturday, May 28, 2016. You can make reservations and visit a cat.
We are super happy with our cats. They are fantastic girlies! It has not even been a year since we adopted them. I had been wondering how to get a cat because I had never been to a shelter to get an animal. Our cat, Spot, landed – literally – in our yard. She was an angel. So I didn’t know how to pick a cat. A place where you can go and visit with cats while they lounge around, play, and eat is so great. I was able to meet our cats and observe them for a few days. At first Smokey never came out of the bottom of one of the furnishings, but when a new cat came and ousted her she ended up high on a cat shelf.
Smokey is still a bit shy. She is not fond of being held, she will put up with it, she doesn’t throw a cat fit, but I don’t think it is her favorite thing. She likes to receive her hugs, kisses, and scratches while she is on the ground. She is also a heavy girl. Very solid. She also has a lot, I really mean A LOT to say. She has a lot on her mind and she shares often. She is very fast and a great catcher. If the doors are open in the house that is where she will be found, sitting by the open doors. Smokey is as sweet as can be.
Esmeralda is light as a feather and she proves it with her leaps and bounds. She is a little lover kitty and loves to be picked up and snuggled. She is not as talkative as her sister, but she does tell us when she wants something. She is not a “meower” but a mumbler. She “murphs”. She is the thinker.
They both seem to love each other. They play often. They run around the house at top speeds then stop and tumble around. They bathe each other and sleep together. Such cuties! We are happy.
Do you have pets? Where did you get your pet(s)?

I think my last cat update was in October. So I thought I would share what is up with the cats. You may have read about me saying that I was fascinated by Esmeralda’s paws because they were so big. It was guesstimated that the cats were done growing pretty much when we got them so I didn’t understand how such a tiny cat could have such big paws. Well, she doesn’t. She got big. Her and her sister are not big cats but they both grew a lot since we’ve had them. We used to be able to see a cat’s in shadow or silhouette and know who it was, but now we can’t tell because they are the same size. Smokey is heavier . . . she is a solid cat, but they are the same length and height. Esmeralda grew into her paws.
They learned pretty quick that when I come home the first order of business is kisses. They are usually waiting by the door when I open it, but when I get home from teaching Nia, I usually have my arms full of stuff, and I have to run to the turn off the alarm. I drop the stuff as I go, then swoop up the nearest cat and give her a bunch of kisses!
They pretty much rule the house. We are having a few things that have just started happening that we are going to have to work on. Esmeralda has figured out that she can jump from the cat tower onto the wall-mounted speaker and walk across the top of the curtain rod and jump on the entertainment center. Sometimes it takes a bit to figure out these things are happening. I was wondering why our curtains were beginning to come off the rod, then one day I look up and I see Emmy WALKING across the curtain rod. So we are working on altering that behavior.
It is difficult to discipline two cats because you don’t know who did what. With one cat you know if something is amiss it was THE cat, but with two, it is hard to tell. There are habits and behavior patterns so you can guess, but you don’t really know unless you see them do it.
They both love the sun. So they have been enjoying the sun the past few days. They both love to play. And to our delight they actually love to play by themselves. It is super cute. I’ll have to do another post to post the videos. They also love to play together. Sometimes it is a challenge to know if they are playing or fighting, but either way they seem to work it out.
They snuggle together and bathe each other.
Esmeralda isn’t a fan of me being on the computer. I usually have about 20 minutes before she comes in and “murphs” at me.
Esmeralda doesn’t “meow” she makes these little noises that sound like “murph”. Smokey meows and in a big way. She always sounds as if someone is disemboweling her.
Because of Smokey’s meYOOOOWWWLLLING and Esmeralda’s odd and painful kneading, I think they were taken away from their mother too young. Esmeralda doesn’t knead in a milking-mamma-kind-of-way. She stands on us and then marches. Pressing really hard using ALL FOUR paws. She dances around in a circle. It is odd. And Smokey will just knead the air every-once-in-awhile . . . but she YEOOWWLL often.
She will be dead asleep and then wake up meYOOOOWWWLLLING. She will meYOOOOWWWLLLING all the way through the house until she finds us. It is that blood curdling type of meYOOOOWWWLLLING.
Cats are funny. Which is one thing that makes them great. They are a great source of laughter and entertainment.
We love our kitties and consider ourselves very blessed to have gotten such great cats. They are very good and super sweet.
What silly thing does your pet do? (I ask because they ALL do something silly!)

IT’S CHRISTMASTIME. I love this time of year. Yes, I tend to get a bit crazed because I want to have my house sparkly clean, then all decorated, then have the presents all under the tree, the Christmas cards on their way in the first week of December. And the CRAZED part comes in because unless I start doing some of this in November it just doesn’t happen. So then I start having to take shortcuts. I even posted about Letting Go before — I’ve actually written a few posts about letting go, but one specifically about Christmas – it turns out, in 2010, I thought it was last year. I am nowhere near sparkly and Christmas cards are still on the radar, but I have no idea when. One of the things that tends to get me a bit crazed it coming up with stuff to write. I don’t always have ideas. I want to post stuff that you will read, but sometimes, I just can’t come up with things. I even posted about that before, too. I skipped/missed two Saturdays because I was busy and even though I remembered in time, I didn’t remember in enough time to think of something AND write it. So, tonight, I decided to take the pressure off by just posting what I have been doing that is taking up my time. I don’t have time to think of stuff and research it and . . . well, life gets busy and sometimes priorities change. I have been having a good time.
Over the Thanksgiving weekend I met Rocky. I like birds so I was trying to make friends with him. I would visit with him everytime I walked by his cage. The first time I heard him “meow” I ran into where he was and started recording . . . and all he would do was make that “drip” noise. This went on for about a day and a half. The last few hours it crossed my mind that he was not making a DRIP noise, but the noise that my iPhone makes when I turn begin to record. What do you thing? I am not convinced that is what it was. (The other bird noises in the video are his “music” his dad turns on for him.) He is a very smart and very pretty bird.
Birds are so amazing. But they are very messy and they require a lot of attention. They are animals that were created to fly. When they are kept in cages they want attention. They want attention like any pet.
So, I’ve been cleaning, putting up the tree, decorating the house, and entertaining cats. In another post I will share some of the other decorations . . . this is it for now.
One of my girls is calling.
How is your Christmas Season going so far? Are you ready for Christmas?
