Goodie Jar – Check In #7

Posted by terrepruitt on March 15, 2013

We are into our third month of the year 2013.  I hope you are still finding good things to put in your good things jar.  Remember that everyone has different things that they like.  Everyone has different things that they would like to be reminded of at the end of the year.  Those are the things you want to put in your jar.

A good thing might seem silly at the moment, but I bet when you read about it at the end of the year you will be glad you put it down on paper and put it in your container.  Don’t be shy, put anything and everything you want in your jar.  That in itself is a good thing.

How is your good jar/good thing jar looking?

Goodie Jar – Check In #6

Posted by terrepruitt on March 8, 2013

Recently my husband took a couple of days off of work.  It is good to take some days off to just relax, I think.  It great to take days off when you have something planned, but sometimes it does the body, mind, and spirit REAL good when you just take the day off with no plans.  Just sit around and relax or work on a project.

Well, on one of the days he had off he decided to attend one of my Nia classes.  I was so excited.  It was great to have my hubby there.  For a moment I thought I would be nervous, but then I realized that he would be fine and I would just be doing what I always do.  And that is what we did.  He moved, I led, and we went out to breakfast after.

The whole morning was such a wonderful treat to me.  It definitely is in a Good Thing worthy of my Goodie Jar!

How is your good things jar doing?

Goodie Jar – Check In #5

Posted by terrepruitt on March 1, 2013

Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia at the City of San Jose, Nia classes in the South Bay, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, San Jose Nia, Nia San Jose, Nia workout, Nia, ZumbaI wanted to share one of the good things I put in my jar.  It actually happened last week so I could have included it in my Goodie Jar – Check In #4, but I was so excited about the wrapping paper idea I got carried away with that.  Anyway, last Thursday was Valentine’s Day and it was my second Nia class at the new time at one of the places I teach for the city of San Jose.  I did not have one person in my class.  Even though I don’t take it personally I still am usually a little sad when that happens, but this was a cause for a note in my goodie pitcher.

You might be wondering why I would think no one showing up for my class is a good thing, well, as I said it was Valentine’s Day and I was happy because no one being with ME meant that they ALL have SOMEONE to be with!  Whenever I think of that I cannot wipe the smile off my face!  HOW GREAT IS IT THAT ALL OF THEM HAVE SOMEONE TO LOVE??????  I am not even talking about romantic love.  I know some people like to be with their friends, their kids, their parents . . . . WHO is not the issue . . . . LOVE is the thing!  They were all too busy with a loved one to be with me.  I’m good with that.  I am better than good with that.  I LOVE that.

So that is one of the things in my goodie jar!  It is a GREAT thing that my students have someone to love!

Oh!  That is another good thing for MY jar . . . . I have someone to love . . . . how about you?  Are you adding things to your good things jar?

Goodie Jar – Check In #4

Posted by terrepruitt on February 22, 2013

This is the fourth check in for the Goodie Jar, the jar where we put notes of good things that have happened.   I started my jar a month into 2013, but I added a couple of notes of things that happened in January so I’m ok with the late start.  In my last check in, check in #3 I shared that I am using all different kinds of paper and even folding them a different way.  I look around my house to try to find different color paper or paper with something pretty or colorful on it.  Well, I was wrapping a gift and I had one of those little pieces of wrapping paper that there is nothing to do with but throw away.  It was too small to use as in a bag as I mentioned in my Wrapping Tips post (you can read about that by clicking here).  But it was big enough to write a good thing on!

Oh yeah!  I can have a goodie jar full of wrapping paper scraps.  Ha, that is a fun idea, but I don’t actually wrap that much!  But when I do, I usually end up with that one little piece of paper that is not gonna wrap or cushion any thing.  Now it will be a pretty addition to my good things pitcher!  Yay!

So, I am wishing you a rapidly filling goodie jar.  How is it going for you?

Goodie Jar – Check In #3

Posted by terrepruitt on February 15, 2013

Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia at the City of San Jose, Nia classes in the South Bay, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, San Jose Nia, Nia San Jose, Nia workout, Nia, ZumbaHere we are checking-in on our Goodie Jar or Good Things Jar.  Remember any good thing can go in the container.  Whatever you want it to be!  We are filling our jar for an entire year.  I am looking forward to a time when I have to empty my pitcher to make room for more good things!  Then on December 31, 2013 we are going to read all the good things that happened throughout the year.  We will ring in the New Year with a joyous feeling!

My friend who is participating in the Good Things Jar sent me a picture.  She has given me permission to post it . . .  so here is her family’s jar.  She is smart and has paper and pens right next to it!  I am going for the colorful and abstract look so I try to find different color paper and different sizes.  I have even folded some notes in different ways.  Oooo . . . maybe a fun time to take up origami.  Have some paper cranes in the goodie jar!

I will tell you that not all my good things are Nia related.  🙂

How full is your Goodie Jar?  Are you able to focus on the Good Things?

Goodie Jar – Check In #2

Posted by terrepruitt on February 8, 2013

This is my second “Goodie Jar” or “Good Things Jar” check-in. Since I am putting a note of “good things” that have happened into a jar to read on December 31, 2013, I think I might stick to this title and number.  Not sure yet, but as of now, it sounds like a good idea.

So far I have seven things in my pitcher.  I say things because most of them are notes I made to document the memory or event, but one is a “love note” I received from a friend.  She has created a set of cards from her doodles and I purchased a set.  A love note comes with the set.   The note made me happy and brought up additional memories so I thought it would be a perfect addition to the jar because it is a good thing and will be a reminder of many good things.  One of the other things is the jar is miniature copies of our tickets to a Sharks game.  It was my first one and it was really fun, so I added that as a good thing.

As I have stated, if you are participating you don’t have to share what is in your jar unless you want to tells us your good things.  I just thought I would share to give you an idea of what I am putting in our jar.

Since this is our second week hopefully you have at least two things in your jar.  So?  Are you putting things in your jar?  How many do you have?

Goodie Jar – Check In #1

Posted by terrepruitt on February 1, 2013

This is my first “Goodie Jar” or “Good Things Jar” check-in.  Where we are putting a note of “good things” that have happened into a jar to read on December 31, 2013.  The idea of this — for me is to remember to notice the good things that happen.  No matter how big, no matter how small.  It is to also serve as a reminder that even if or when there are things that might not be considered things that are a cause for celebration going on there are still good things happening.  Have this jar will be a fun way to review some of the good stuff that has happened throughout the year!

If you are participating you don’t have to share what is in your jar unless you want to tells us your good thing.

So far I have two things in my “jar” and they are both Nia related.  How about you?  Do you have good things in your jar?

Goodie Jar

Posted by terrepruitt on January 29, 2013

As the New Year approached and very shortly there after, I started seeing pictures of jars with paper inside posted on Facebook.  The idea was simple, write down something good that happened and put it in the jar, at the end of the year read it, and be reminded of all the good things that happened to you during the year.  Even though I loved the idea and I wanted to do it, I got caught up in other things and I forgot about it.  Just this past week a friend posted a picture of her jar saying, “Do you remember this?”  And I hadn’t.  I had completely forgotten.  I want to do that.  I want a “good thing jar”.

Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia at the City of San Jose, Nia classes in the South Bay, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, San Jose Nia, Nia San Jose, Nia workout, Nia, ZumbaFirst of all I don’t have a jar.  So I am going to use a pitcher that I love, but hardly use.  This way, I will be using something that I love and it will be pretty.  Second, I don’t remember how often one is supposed to put something in the jar.  Was there a rule?  Was there a timeframe?  I THINK it was “whenever” something good happened.  I like that but I also want to make sure something gets in the pitcher.  I am going to impose an at-least-once-a-week rule.  It is not that good things don’t happen daily, I just think that life gets busy and I might not write something everyday but I want to make certain I do it at least once a week.  I also don’t think there was a guideline on what “good” means.  So for myself I am going to define it a bit.  I am going to keep track of things that make me smile and the memory of which will make me smile.  It does not have to be a significant thing, something say “to write home about”, but I want it to be something where I can say, “Oh yeah, I remember that.  That was great!”  Another thing I thought of, which I think might add to the experience is to date the note so I can remember better as I am reading about all the good stuff.

I love when I make deals with you and we have check-ins.  Even though this is just a feel good kind of thing, I know that sometimes projects — even fun ones — get pushed aside and/or forgotten altogether when time is short, so I thought I would do a weekly check-in.

If you want to join me you can just post a comment on the post.  I am going to do it on Fridays.  My first check in will be Friday, February 1, 2013.

I have my first paper already in my pitcher.  Of course is has to do with Nia and teaching another class for the City of San Jose.

Then on Tuesday, December 31, 2013, I will read about all the good stuff that happened throughout the year. I will be reminded of the things big and small.  I am sure I will get warm fuzzies.  I think this is a fabulous way to end a year and go into a new one.

What do you think?  Is this a project you would like to join?  Are you going to–join me?
