Posted by terrepruitt on January 8, 2021

I went to the post office the other day to drop off some mail in the drive-thru mail box. Since I never get out and my car never gets driven I decided to drive around my neighborhood, but in a different direction, one I had never been. I was amazed at some of the views I came across. But this sign made me happy. I actually circled around to take a picture of it to share with you. I thought it would make a nice Friday Photo.

Daily Log For Movement Or Whatever . . . .

Posted by terrepruitt on January 6, 2021

There are so many fabulous things about taking trainings online. When I took the FIRST EVERY Nia Belt Training Online there were people from all over the world participating. As part of the training live virtual Nia classes are included. It was super fun to dance with people all over the world. I am teaching classes virtually myself so unfortunately I was not able to attend a lot of the classes because my classes are on the optimal days at the optimal time – and so are a lot of others. So when there was a class offered I was usually teaching. BUT, I did take a class with one Nia teacher in New Zealand. She is hilarious.  She just sent out a Daily Log which is perfect. I have been wanting to do something with MY students that is easy and fun and she found it.

Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia online, San Jose Virtual classes, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, Nia San Jose, Nia workout, Nia, Gentle Yoga, Group Ex classes, Nia Technique, Yin Yoga, stretch classes, online exercise, Zoom classes, virtual yoga, City of San Jose online exercise, live classes via ZoomSince she sees her students in person she is able to give them a printout if they want. I am having to have you print your own, so I Googled it and found a few versions online (Popsugar posted about it in 2020). This one is slightly different than the one Stephanie sent out. The font is different and the background is white so as not to have to print a colored background. But the idea is the same and I LOVE IT!

What a super easy way to keep track of ANYTHING! Just color in the number and then at the end of the month you will have a colorful word and at the end of the year you will have a color paper!

I am inviting my students to use it as a movement log. So whenever they get some exercise in their day they color in the date. There are so many ways it can be done . . .

If you want to set some guidelines it could be that you color in a date when you have done at least 30 minutes of exercise/movement. If you do a variety of movement forms you can use a different color for each activity. I am going to use a separate color for yoga, Nia, and stretch. I will have an “other” color and a color for none, but for the “none” I am going to use the color and line through the day. I will probably change colors during the year so I can end up with a colorful paper.

You can find a blank one to download (JPEG) for printing for your use on my site by clicking here. The numbers might not print very clear, but it it easy enough to figure out. I can’t read the tiny URL on the page to know where this came from but – thank you, Creator-Of-This-Cool-Tool!

Remember it is ok to have days where you may not have gotten in any documentable movement (it happens) so if you want a colorful page go ahead and pick a color for the time when you are giving yourself a rest.

And like I said this is good for more than just keeping track of days with movement, it could be for days you meditate or days you talk to friends or loved ones, it could even be for keeping track of daily medication or days you eat veggies . . .the possibilities are endless. It is an easy way to keep track of things.

Thank you to Stephanie for sharing. I am so excited. I hope you will join me on this coloring journey. With my students we will have a monthly show and tell . . . seeing each others’ coloring progress. You can always join in on that too!  I can’t wait to see how it looks at the end of the year!

Don’t you think this is a cool way to track completion of daily movement or log completion of a daily task?

Helpful Christmas Gift

Posted by terrepruitt on January 4, 2021

As sometimes happens I couldn’t think of anything to post about for hours and now that I thought of something I don’t have time, I need to go cook dinner. It too late to do a nice post with all the great Christmas gifts I received from my hubby, so I am going to do a quick one with one of the items and do another post with some of the others.  I can’t sit here taking a bunch of photos to accompany my post. So you get a quick post with some quick pictures. Gone are the days where my husband and I surprise each other with great gifts. Now-a-days we give each other lists and most of the time it is just little things. You will see when I do another post. You will probably laugh at what was on my list. We are blessed so anything we feel we need we buy it during the year. We are also pretty frugal so we don’t always buy the latest things. If you remember my last phone upgrade was from a 5 to a 10 XS and I hope to keep it just as long! But sometimes we need things to help us with our devices. So this is what I asked for:

Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia online, San Jose Virtual classes, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, Nia San Jose, Nia workout, Nia, Gentle Yoga, Group Ex classes, Nia Technique, Yin Yoga, stretch classes, online exercise, Zoom classes, virtual yoga, City of San Jose online exercise, live classes via Zoom, Nia White Belt training via Zoom

Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia online, San Jose Virtual classes, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, Nia San Jose, Nia workout, Nia, Gentle Yoga, Group Ex classes, Nia Technique, Yin Yoga, stretch classes, online exercise, Zoom classes, virtual yoga, City of San Jose online exercise, live classes via Zoom, Nia White Belt training via ZoomHa . . . keep in mind that it too small to be anything other than what it is! So far it has been very helpful. I tend to wander from room to room doing various things. I may be in one room doing something then I go into another to do something and a cat will distract me. Then I go back to my office . . . I don’t stay in one place all day, so I am constantly misplacing my phone. I set it down wherever. As I said, if a cat distracts me I will stop what I am doing and I could set the phone anywhere. This helps me keep track of it!

Also, I have been finding that my airpods charge doesn’t seem to last long . . . or more accurately I use them A LOT so they always need to be charged. I often use one and then when it makes the noise indicating it needs charging I put the other one in and then take out the one that needs charging. MOST of the time it changes over seamlessly but not always and sometimes they just die too quickly so I end up using my old airbuds. Well, have you ever forgot about that whole set up (airbuds in your ears plugged into the phone, phone sitting somewhere where you decide not to be) and rip the buds out of your ears, or the cord out of the phone, or the phone off the counter? UGH! I hate when I do that. So with this that does not happen! It is pretty nifty.

For a while I was looking for an armband, but this is much more convenient because it doesn’t have a plastic pocket where the phone goes so none of that to deal with and it is easy to just flip the phone up to see and work on.

Did you get anything useful for Christmas?

Under The Christmas Tree

Posted by terrepruitt on January 1, 2021

While I am excited to leave the Christmas tree and decorations up for another week, I don’t think our cats are. But maybe. The tree is in the spot that their cat tower normally resides, but it is on a table so that they can still have access to the spot where the sun shines. Here is Teagan and Nessa for the first Friday Photo of 2021.

And I am glad I was wrong about how soon I would know someone with the virus.

Thank you, Dear Readers/Friends.  I appreciate you reading my posts and commenting.  I hope to see you all here and on your blogs in 2021.  I wish you all a Happy and Safe New Year.  Here’s to 2021.

2020 Christmas Decorations

Posted by terrepruitt on December 28, 2020

I was starting to get sad because I was thinking I needed to take the decorations down. I just start feeling like I need to take them down after Christmas and I don’t.  If it weren’t for the Christmas tree in my yoga/Nia/stretch studio (AKA: living room) no one would know how long we have the decorations up. I like to keep them up as long as possible. I think we can make it. The Epiphany is NEXT Wednesday! I can start disassembling on Thursday after class my stretch class. That way I can have about two and half days to get things packed up and allow my hubby Sunday to put it all back up. We will see. I guess I can breathe easy and no need to get sad yet. I have almost two weeks left.  YAY!  By THEN I will be ready to take it down.  🙂

And now . . . I am sharing it with you. IF you have seen some of my previous years’ Christmas posts some of these ornaments will look familiar!  Scroll down, and keep scrolling, and keep scrolling, and keep scrolling . . . I might have gotten carried away.  🙂

Merry Christmas. (I can eeek it out one more day!)

Which are you:

1) take down the tree December 26th?
2) wait until after Epiphany
3) take it down when it is dry and needs to go?

Friday Photo On A Merry Christmas

Posted by terrepruitt on December 25, 2020

I am always sad when it is over. Sometimes our tree is not really dry and we can take it down well into the New Year. I think this year it is a good (not dry) tree and we can make it to the epiphany at least. Hopefully the weekend after, since it is easier to take down decorations on the weekend because I don’t have any classes and my hubby can help.

Our tree was narrow this year which allowed some room for me to teach in the living room/dance studio. It was patchy which allows for ornaments to tuck in there good. It is a great tree. Here for a Christmas Day Friday Photo is a portion of it.

I hope you had a very Merry Christmas!

Treasured Christmas Decorations

Posted by terrepruitt on December 23, 2020

I have received so many wonderful gifts throughout the years.  I cannot remember where all of them came from or thank everyone for everything I have received over the years.  Sometimes I forget who gave me what.  And I know that they forget, too.  But this year I have decided to tell people that I love their gift and it brings me much joy.  I started with my red wreath.

Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia online, San Jose Virtual classes, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, Nia San Jose, Nia workout, Nia, Gentle Yoga, Group Ex classes, Nia Technique, Yin Yoga, stretch classes, online exercise, Zoom classes, virtual yoga, City of San Jose online exercise, live classes via ZoomIt is made of metal bells.  I love it.  It is such a great addition to our Christmas decorations.  As I was hanging it I snapped a picture and sent a text to the person that gave it to me.  She didn’t remember giving it to me – we all do that, right?  But I do.  I remember and it makes me happy.  I LOVE that wreath.  It goes up every year and it has a special spot.

Another thing is a gift I inherited.  I remember when my mom received it and I loved it then, and I love displaying it now.  It is a row of family bears. listing all of my family’s names.  Only three in that row are still around.

Another thing is my tree skirt.  John’s mom made me a beautiful tree skirt.  I had always dreamed of having a tree skirt to put around my tree and I finally had one.  Every year I was so excited to put it around the tree.  One year she was over and she said, “But, that doesn’t fit.”  Because it only went around about 1/4 of the area below the tree.  And I replied that I didn’t care, it was awesome.  But she remedied that by making me a HUGE tree skirt.  And I love it.  Half of the reason I bug my husband so much about putting up the tree is so I can place that beautiful skirt around it.  It always fits!

BUT . . . I am using it to cover the rolling cabinet I have the monitor and laptop on.  And the napkin that matches is being used to cover the monitor.  And then, since I couldn’t put up the table I decided to use two TV trays in its place (I had to have something, I have a lot of decorations!) and that enabled me to use a table cloth that I have not used for years.  When we first moved in we had a round table in the dining room and John’s mom made me the most beautiful round table cloth.  It was the PERFECT size.  It is green with slightly shimmering Christmas trees on it with heavy bright gold trim around it.  I love it and get sad when I don’t have anything to put it on so I was excited this year when I could use it.  She also made me a table cloth for our coffee table that has cats on it, but I rotate years that I use that and I didn’t use it this year.

There is also my light jar I received.  It was years ago when light jars first came out.  I had wanted one and was so excited to have received it.

Wow!  I probably could go on and on, but I will stop there.  I just really love decorating for Christmas and I look forward to using these treasures every year.

I think if any year is the year to reach out to people and let them know that they gifted you something you treasure NOW is that year.  What do you think?  What about you?  Do you have anything you received as a gift that you treasure and use every year?

Easy Way To Create, Recycle, And Gift Give

Posted by terrepruitt on December 21, 2020

Last year a friend gave me a Bath & Body Works candle in a jar. It smelled so yummy I bought a bunch of them when they were on sale. But I have an issue with throwing “jars” away. Jarred candles feel much safer in that the flame is in a glass container, so I primarily purchase those type of candles (aside from tealight which I then put in containers). I just don’t like throwing the jar away. Last year I painted jars that I had from candles and gave them as gifts. But this year I am not seeing anyone and with a dance studio in our living room I didn’t want to take up the dining room table with crafts. But I did have those Bath & Body Works jars to deal with. And actually it started with a vase that I got for my birthday.

This year I stuck them in a square vase I had received with flowers in it for my birthday. I put a cork light in it and I really liked it. So I got the idea to fill it with Christmas ornaments and give it to my friend. I had NO idea what to get her and so I thought this would be nice. It is an really easy thing to decorate with and it has a pop. I had ordered pink and silver ornaments, but they sent me red and gold. The delivery had already been delayed so I wouldn’t have been able to get a replacement in time . . . plus the red ones were ok. But the pink and silver would have been awesome.  (She’ll never know.)

So, I filled the jar with the ornaments to see how they would fit. Then I took them out and put in the light. I ended up doing that several times until I was finally satisfied. I didn’t use any glue so it was quite easy to rearrange things. Then I tied a bow around it and whamo! INSTANT light up Christmas decoration.

So I filled two of those with ornaments and cork lights. With these two jars I ended up getting new cork lights and they are pretty cool. They have different settings and a timer. Seems like they improve the lights every year.

So, I am super happy. I really like these decorations. I like to make stuff and I love to be able to recycle. And like I said, I think they have a big pop. Anything that lights up POPS to me.

I have a lot of Bath & Body Works candles to burn so I am sure I will fill the emptied jars with other things and give them as gifts. The possibilities are endless, they don’t have to be filled with Christmasy stuff!

I think these are adorable (yes, a little horn tooting), what do you think?  Do you like to make gifts?
