Hillside View

Posted by terrepruitt on June 30, 2017

I have this photo in a file and every time I go through the file I am attracted to this photo. It was such a beautiful day and the view was spectacular. I was driving up a little hillside road and I had to pull over at one of the buildings along the way and stop to take a picture. This is a shot overlooking Fremont (I think it would be Fremont). So, since I think this is a pretty view I thought I would share it for my Friday Photo today. That is what I started the Friday Photo series for: sharing shots I liked, but really hadn’t posted or wanted people to see. Some photos I have posted as a Friday Photo I might have already posted on Facebook or even Twitter, but most not. Most are just oddball shots. Here is one of those oddball ones.

This was taken on January 25, 2017.

Apricots and Plums – Peaking

Posted by terrepruitt on June 22, 2010

Someone pointed me in the direction of this great map that indicates what fruits and vegetables are at the peak of the season in a particular state in a particular month.  I need assistance with that because I have never learned that.

This month it is June.  I’m in California.  Not only am I in California, I am in the Bay Area, the San Francisco Bay Area.  In the South Bay.  I have said before that we are very fortunate here in the San Jose Area because we have great weather.  The map does not give specific locations as to what grows where, but I was able to get some plums and apricots off of a friend’s tree(s) (They didn’t come off of the same tree).

I ate only one apricot.  I will save the rest for my hubby because he likes them more than I do.  It was very good.  Very sweet and rich.  The plums are in varying stages of ripeness.  But so far all of the ones I have had are sweet and delicious.  I had a couple for breakfast before my Nia class this morning.

I am thinking of different ways we can eat the plums.  Besides just popping the entire thing in our mouths.  Since even the ones that aren’t that ripe are sweet I was thinking I could cut some up and throw them in a green salad.  No matter the ripeness I could put them in an aluminum foil package of chicken or pork and cook that.  Mmmm.  I think that I am going to do a lot more cooking with fruit this summer, just to try new things.

Do you cook with fruit?  What fruits and vegetables are in peak season right now in your state?

Silly Jokes

Posted by terrepruitt on December 10, 2009

Recently I attended a Holiday Party in San Francisco put on by Yelp.  It was for all the “Bays”; East Bay, South Bay, North Bay.  They always have promotional items and things lying about.  I spotted some Laffy Taffy and grabbed a few.  Now first let me say, “I know, I know, the ingredients are pretty much everything on my ‘avoid’ list” but I put some in my purse anyway.  Even though this is not something you should eat (becuase it is just so fully of stuff that you shouldn’t have) I am so glad I grabbed it, I don’t know whether I was just in a silly mood, but the jokes on them had me laughing so hard that I was tearing up.  They are just good old fashion silly jokes.  I am thinking that there are some kids out there that will like ’em.

1)  How do you get an alien baby to sleep?

                                                                                                                               1a)  You rocket

2)  What is a buccaneer?

                                                                                                                              2a)  Expensive corn

3)  What is a bunny’s motto?

                                                                                                                              3a)  Don’t frown, be hoppy

4)  What is a cat’s favorite color?

                                                                                                                              4a)  Purrrrple

5)  Why is it so hot in a stadium after a football game?

5a)  All the fans have left

6)  Why is a lost dalmation so easily found?

                                                                                                                              6a)  He’s always spotted

7)  Why did the boy throw butter out his window?

7a)  He wanted to see a butterfly

8)  What do you call a cow with a twitch?

                                                                                                                              8a)  Beef jerky

So?  Did they make you laugh?  Make you smile?  Which one was your favorite?  Silliness is fun!

FREE Classes – Bay Area National Dance Week

Posted by terrepruitt on April 21, 2009

The studio at which I teach my Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and sometimes Sunday classes, participates in the Bay Area National Dance Week.  This is a week (actually 10 days) where all types of classes and performances are free.

The location of the classes range from San Francisco, to the East Bay, to the South Bay, to the Peninsula, and the North Bay.  There is Zumba and Ballroom in San Francisco, Salsa in Oakland, ballet in Berkley, Mountain View, Walnut Creek, and Los Gatos.  Pole dancing in Redwood City, Nia and Belly Dancing in San Jose . . . . Whew.  If there is a class for it,  it is part of the Bay Area National Dance Week, more classes include; Flamenco, Greek, Hip Hop, Hula, Hula Hoop, oh, far too many classes and locations to list.

Friday, April 24, 2009, at noon there is going to be a Conga line.  Per the booklet:  “Dancers and non-dancers, students and adults will join our downtown visitors, shoppers, and workers on the streets of San Francisco.”  There will be performances on the Union Square stage.

You might want to check out their site:  http://www.bayareandw.org for all the information.*

Also Friday at noon there is Dance Anywhere.  Oh, yeah, that is what they mean, where ever you are at noon on Friday, dance.  Now, I am thinking that the dance doesn’t have to be big.  You can just tap your toe and bob your head, but whatever, I think it would be cool to join in:  http://www.danceanywhere.org/

This 10 day event is from Friday, April 24, 2009, to Sunday, May 3, 2009.  Don’t miss it!

If you attend one of my Nia classes from April 27th to May 1st and mention the event you can take the class for free.

Please check www.HelpYouWell.com for class schedule changes.  Thank you.
