Our rose bushes are at it again. When we first moved in we had VERY ORANGE roses, WHITE roses, and light pink roses. Over the years our orange roses have been not-as-orange when they first bloom then they fade to pink. I wrote a post about it – Yard Roses. Well, now our once white roses bush that has been yellow for years is now producing BOTH white and yellow roses. We have not done any type of grafting. But the white roses look REALLY white in the sun. But looking at the pictures they seem light pink.
I think it is odd how the roses have changed colors over the years.
It has been years and I still don’t know how to properly care for the roses. They just grow wild. Whenever I want to cut some to bring them in I do. And whenever the bushes start looking really unruly I hack them down. The last time they got a good hacking my husband had done it. I always have a fear that they won’t come back from such a drastic cutback, but they do.
Here are some pictures of the white and yellow rose bush. Do you see the photo bomber in three of the pictures?
Do you have roses in your yard?

The reason I started my Friday Photo post was to share some of the pictures that really have no place elsewhere. These are roses from a bush that was a little plant I received when I left my last corporate job. I thought I had posted about them before, but it is not coming up in the search. This picture is from 2016, but the bush is still alive and it does produce roses!

I love our roses. Yeah, I post about them a lot. I take pictures of them on the rose bush. I cut them and bring them in. I take pictures of them in vases. I love them. I was talking to a friend recently who, when I suggested she put roses in her yard, said they are a lot of work. I suppose if you take care of them properly they are. But I don’t know how to properly take care of a rose bush. I am not a gardener. I just like to look at them and cut them and bring them in. That seems to be enough so far.
Here is a rose from our rose bush for today’s Friday Photo.
I love roses. How about you?

I don’t know how to trim rose bushes. I don’t know how and I don’t know when. I know there is a specific time of the year to do it and I know there is a way to do it. I just go out there when the bush is looking ugly and bothering me and I hack at it. My hubby grabs the dead roses and just pulls them off, but I like to cut them off. Recently it was looking rather wild so last week I went out and cut off the dead roses and some of the dead branches. Then we were gone over the weekend and we came back to a rose bush explosion! So excited. I went out and cut some roses off to bring inside. So we have roses in the house. And the bush still has a lot, so we have roses outside. I love our roses. So I am sure this will not be the only Friday Photo of them.
As I said in the beginning; there will be a lot of cats, birds, and flowers.

I love our yard roses. I have hundreds of pictures of them. I post some pictures on Facebook or even twitter, but I don’t like to just fill up my feed(s) with them. I mean, I wouldn’t mind, but I think that would annoy people. So I am sharing one here. This is from April of 2016.
In case you are wondering . . . they smell GREAT!

IT’S CHRISTMASTIME. I love this time of year. Yes, I tend to get a bit crazed because I want to have my house sparkly clean, then all decorated, then have the presents all under the tree, the Christmas cards on their way in the first week of December. And the CRAZED part comes in because unless I start doing some of this in November it just doesn’t happen. So then I start having to take shortcuts. I even posted about Letting Go before — I’ve actually written a few posts about letting go, but one specifically about Christmas – it turns out, in 2010, I thought it was last year. I am nowhere near sparkly and Christmas cards are still on the radar, but I have no idea when. One of the things that tends to get me a bit crazed it coming up with stuff to write. I don’t always have ideas. I want to post stuff that you will read, but sometimes, I just can’t come up with things. I even posted about that before, too. I skipped/missed two Saturdays because I was busy and even though I remembered in time, I didn’t remember in enough time to think of something AND write it. So, tonight, I decided to take the pressure off by just posting what I have been doing that is taking up my time. I don’t have time to think of stuff and research it and . . . well, life gets busy and sometimes priorities change. I have been having a good time.
Over the Thanksgiving weekend I met Rocky. I like birds so I was trying to make friends with him. I would visit with him everytime I walked by his cage. The first time I heard him “meow” I ran into where he was and started recording . . . and all he would do was make that “drip” noise. This went on for about a day and a half. The last few hours it crossed my mind that he was not making a DRIP noise, but the noise that my iPhone makes when I turn begin to record. What do you thing? I am not convinced that is what it was. (The other bird noises in the video are his “music” his dad turns on for him.) He is a very smart and very pretty bird.
Birds are so amazing. But they are very messy and they require a lot of attention. They are animals that were created to fly. When they are kept in cages they want attention. They want attention like any pet.
So, I’ve been cleaning, putting up the tree, decorating the house, and entertaining cats. In another post I will share some of the other decorations . . . this is it for now.
One of my girls is calling.
How is your Christmas Season going so far? Are you ready for Christmas?

I am so happy with our roses. One year I went out and hacked them pretty good. They were just growing too wild. I went out and chopped them up. There are some bushes that produce these flowers . . . I think of them as roses. I am not sure what they are. The bushes are not the type that have one flower on a stem, they are the type that have multi flowers on a stem. They bloom then die quickly and we end up with dead brown petals all over the yard. So when I chopped the bushes I chopped those ones up a lot. Since then we have not had the yard full of dead browness all over. I like that better. The bushes are a nice green and are just fine not producing flowers. I did such a good job that I have not really been out there since to really do a huge hack job. Which means I have also not done anything to our other rose bushes. A couple of weeks ago I was noticing they were out of control. They have really tall stems towering over the bush. (I think the first picture to the left shows how tall a couple of the stems are.) I thought, “I need to go cut those so the bush is more in control.” But I noticed that at the top of each stem was a bud. So I decided that after the flowers bloom and die I will start cutting the bush back.
What I have done is gone out and cut some prime flowers to bring in. Then as the other ones bloom and die, I trim them off.
But as you can see the bush is just doing a beautiful job of producing flowers. Even though it is a mess of a bush, not trimmed to any type of pleasing shape or taken care of in the least it is still producing very beautiful flowers. And like most “homegrown” roses, they smell fantastic. I have been cutting flowers and about-to-open buds and bringging them in. At the time of this writing, I have five small vases with flowers . . . . well, six if you count the one single flower that broke off the stem that I stuck in a tiny vase . . . set about the house. Still the rose bush is full. I need to go out and cut some more off.
Such a hardy rose bush. This is the one that used to be JUST orange and now the flowers are orange and pink.
Then there is the yellow and pink roses. Those ones used to be JUST pink or did they used to be just yellow? Either way, they are now dual colored.
The ones that look red my husband calls Crimson Stinkers. I really need to tend to that bush. It is right in front of the kitchen window with the idea that we can look out and see them, but the curtain is always closed so I forget they are there. The poor bush is more like a few vines. I am going to give her extra love. Her flowers are beautiful when they have a chance to grow and don’t end up at the end of a long viney stem on the ground.
I love flowers. I love roses. I love that they are so hardy they don’t even really need attention. I am not the gardener in the family. I do not have a green thumb at all. I am not a fan of dirt or the outdoors. Dirt just bugs me and the outside makes me sneeze. In fact the other day when I was outside trimming the roses I stayed out as long as I could. When I started sneezing and my nose started running I had to come in. It didn’t take that long. But I did get some trimming done.
I just love the roses and the beauty they have. I just wanted to share.
I have a friend who was tweeting about all of the fruits and vegetables she planted. She said something about flowers. I tweeted that my roses are going wild and she said she was afraid to try growing roses. I laughed. I didn’t understand how she could grow FOOD and other flowers, but think she couldn’t grow roses. I’ll share this post with her so she can see our roses that did this all on their own with no help from me. @BeckySain, if I can grow (cough, cough, cough, I didn’t DO anything) roses, YOU can grow roses!
Below are the ones that used to be either pink and now are yellow and pink or yellow and are now both. Pink. I think they used to be pink.
Anyone out there have rose growing tips for my friend?
Ha, ha, ha . . . I should say, anyone out there have rose growing tips for ME? Whatcha got?
