So we are over halfway done with the Daily 10 Minute Practice. How are you doing? Are you really discipline and able to do it at the same time every day? I have recently seen an article via Facebook about a Japanese practice said to end laziness called Kaizen. The method is to practice something for one minute every day at the same time. Since it is only a minute, the idea is that it is something easy to do . . . even if what it is you are doing is not easy or is unpleasant. The fact that the task was done (even just for a minute) provides a sense of accomplishment and helps make the task bearable and perhaps even enjoyable. With that theory, the tendency to increase the time doing the task is probable. The theory also contains the idea that little changes can add up to big rewards. So the practice is believed to be a way to end laziness.
There actually is an institute, the Kaizen Institute founded by Masaaki Imai in 1985. Masaaki Imai is credited with bringing the practice of Kaizen to “the West.” According to that website, Kaizen is more of a way to improvement. According to the glossary on the website:
“Kaizen is continuous improvement that is based on certain guiding principles:
The Kaizen Institute is geared towards businesses.
Wiki says that “kaizen” is Japanese for improvement or “change for the better.” Perhaps the people who say the practice of Kaizen is a way to end laziness might say that ending laziness IS a way of self improvement.
I am guessing that somewhere in Masaaki Imai’s book he described the practice of doing something for a minute a day and how that simple and small act repeated over and over every day at the same time could lead to improvement and possible better and bigger changes. Perhaps he tagged it as a way to end laziness or perhaps over time it just has been presented that way. Or maybe the practice of Kaizen is older than Imai, his book, and his institute and it really is the Japanese people’s way to end laziness. Either way, I do believe that doing something that might help “improve” or “enhance” you in some way as a practice every day could lead to a big change. It just depends. If there is something that you want to improve upon and it seems like a BIG challenge, then why not start small? Start small and let it build up.
So the ten minute daily practice is just a way of possibly doing that. As I mentioned in the first post about it, I had several people mention to me that they wanted to do something daily. Everyone had a different thing they wanted to do and the time ranged from five minutes to ten. I’m still doing my daily ten minutes. Although I kinda feel that doing it at the same time every day might be more beneficial. I have not been able to nail that part down. But I am getting in my ten. I hope to not miss any more days.
How are you doing? Have you seen that article that was posted on Facebook? Are you familiar with Kaizen?

Here we are on day fifteen of the Daily 10 Minute Practice. Because February is a “short” month we only have 13 days left. Perhaps after having done a daily 10 minute practice, we can carry it on, if that is something you want to do. I should carry on my present one AND add “cleaning out” as a second one!
How is it going for you?

You may have read somewhere on my blog that we have two cats. You may have read somewhere on my blog that we had ONE cat. It took me over a year to even think about getting another cat. Notice I said CAT. So when I finally got to a point where I was entertaining the idea of getting A CAT . . . it was really hard to be faced with the idea of getting TWO. The one I wanted came as a pair. Now, I still would opt for ONE cat as opposed to two, but that will not happen because there is no way we would get rid of either one. Although, I am still learning about two cats. It is not easy having two cats. I had always heard that cats did not like change, that cats liked to have the same thing to eat – all the time. But lately I hear they get bored and want something else. So when our “big” cat doesn’t bother me for dinner, then when I put it out she barely touches it, I think she is bored.
So then I spend hours on the internet trying to find a food. Because I am picky. I prefer grain free and limited ingredients and you may have read somewhere on my blog that our last cat did not like fish. So, I have never researched any cat food with fish until these two. They like fish. Once I find something I will feed them on the internet, I used to buy it, but now I have to go find it at a store because I would rather buy a CAN as opposed to a case (and only cases can be purchased on the internet). Because apparently only ONE kind of food with fish will do, so I don’t want to buy a whole case and be stuck with it. The little one will eat different kinds, but it seems the “big” one likes ONE kind. Even though she may seem bored she won’t eat anything else. Sigh.
Today I was trying to put together a Valentine’s Day routine for my Nia class tomorrow after spending a bit of time looking for new food for the cats. Then I give it to them and the picky one does not like it and spends the next two hours telling me about her dissatisfaction. Poor girl. It is sad because if it were the little one, I probably would have opened another cat food. But since it was the one who could stand to lose a pound, I just look at her and say, “You have dry food if you don’t want to eat your wet food. Sorry, Girl.” Man, why did I bother? Didn’t get as far as I’d have like on the routine and I felt as if I wasted my time.
Cats are crazy. But really, it is probably humans that are crazy to try to live with such amazing creatures. 🙂 So will you tell me about feeding two cats? What do you feed your cats? And how do you get one to slim down but not the other? What are your feeding practices? Do your cats tell you when it is time to feed them? I know this is a lot of questions, but, I want to know these things.

Ahh, I usually have Mondays off, but today I am subbing a class. I will be teaching Nia when there is regularly Pilates. I thought I would try Nia at the community center because this is the community center where I once taught gentle yoga and they wanted to know what Nia was. Hopefully those that enjoyed the demo will show up and enjoy an entire hour of Nia. So instead of Pilates at the Almaden Community Center today it will be Nia at 9:15am!
I will do my Daily 10 Minute Practice, after I get home. We are on day thirteen. When will you do yours?
I haven’t marked off today, yet. I will when I get it done. 🙂

Here we are day twelve of the Daily 10 Minute Practice. Here is where you post your comment. I don’t know if I will doing my “practice” before or after I teach Nia. Today (Sunday, February 12, 2017) is my day to teach Nia at the NW YMCA in Cupertino. There are three of us Nia teachers that teach the Sunday class on a rotating basis. It is nice to have a Sunday class, but nice to not have to teach it every Sunday. Perhaps I will see you there.
When are you going to do your 10 minutes?

So, I am posting the check-in post kind of late. But, I seem to be on this endeavor myself, so that is ok. Most days I am remembering to do it. A couple days I remembered about it but didn’t make the time and one day I barely made it in time!
So, if you are doing the Daily 10 Minute Practice, here is the place to post your comment. It is day eleven!
