Yup, She’s Purple And Her Sister Is Pink

Posted by terrepruitt on October 31, 2009

I teach my Nia classes in a studio in San Jose that is next to a pet store.  The groomer that works there usually gets there before the shop is open so she sits outside in front waiting.  Often she has a puppy or a dog that she has rescued and is trying to adopt out.  She seems to be able to rescue them and it works out that she can find someone to adopt them pretty quick.

This time she had her own animals.  I heard them yelping and realized they were puppies so I peeked out.  Imagine my surprise when I saw a purple puppy with black patches.  Her sister was black and pink.  They were jumping and yelping and vying for attention.  They were obviously cute little girls, but with their bright colors it made them even more adorable.

.

Keep in mind these animals are puppies and you know how puppies are.  It was a miracle that they were still long enough to get a shot, but having them be in a particular spot for correct lighting was not possible.  In fact I don’t think the little one was still at all.  I did not retouch the puppies, but I did blur some of the background.

.

The sun was really bright when it was shining on the purple puppy.  The sun almost washed out the purple.  It definitely made her color seem less bright.

.

But she was pretty purple.  And her sister had a pink muzzle, chest, and pink feet.

It was really cute.  They were really cute.  Full of energy.

Since it is Halloween, I thought it would be cute to post pictures of Purple and Pink puppies!

TechKaraoke SV and Silicon Valley Tweet-Up Joined Forces

Posted by terrepruitt on October 29, 2009

On Wednesday, October 28, 2009, TechKaraoke SV and Silicon Valley Tweet-Up joined forces and held one major party at Rosie McCann’s in Santana Row near the heart San Jose. There was talking, dancing, drinking, eating, singing, laughing, networking, and all of it going on at a very high decibel.

Some great prizes were raffled off:

– a bluetooth headset (a Plantronics Discovery 975)
– a portable storage drive from Seagate
– a cookie basket filled with Halloween cookies from Cookies By Design
– Archos/Viliv Mobile Internet Device (MID) powered by the Intel Atom Processor

There was so much excitement about these prizes that I barely heard the numbers being called and I didn’t hear who won anY of the fabulous prizes. This even was also raising money for Anissa Lopez Foundation / George Mark Children’s House.

Michael Brito, the founder of Silicon Valley Tweetup, announced he was leaving Intel for Edelman Digital.

I met several people and connected with some people I have had the privilege of meeting before. I love tweetups because it shows that the internet’s social media network is really a social network. People coming together in real life after having met and communicated via the internet is really an amazing thing. This was the first SV Tweetup that I was able to attend because I didn’t have a class.  I think I have missed the ones in the past because I was teaching.  I knew I had been missing out, but now I truly understand what I was missing. I am hoping that it will workout that I am available for the next one because I really enjoyed myself at this one.  Also, I believe I heard Michael announce it will be a book signing for Shel Israel, but then again, it was so loud I could have heard wrong. You will have to stay tuned to see . . . .

There were a lot of great costumes there, but this was my favorite!

Lyrics Gone Wrong 2

Posted by terrepruitt on August 6, 2009

I am thinking about playing this game every first Thursday of the month.  Let’s see if that works out.  I am not sure that I can come up with material every month.  I know that I have sung and heard others sing a lot of wrong lyrics, but I can’t remember them.

I was thinking of doing it different ways, sometimes asking for guesses, sometimes just throwing them out there, but, always, of course, asking you to share.  We’ll see huh?

What are the correct lyrics?

              1.   Don’t let go, if you cling to tightly your gonna lose your soul.

              2.   Strumming my fate with his fingers . .

              3.   It’s safe to dance . . .

So, on this rainy day in San Jose, these might not be a challenging exercise on your brain, but maybe coming up with of some lyrics you have sung incorrectly or that you have heard someone sing might be.  So tell me what the correct lyrics are and share with me some other ones you have found out about.

Its Annoying When People Don’t Use. . . .

Posted by terrepruitt on July 25, 2009

I am actually interested in hearing what you think, because I know what annoys me.  So let me know what you think.  Add comments to what I have or come up with your own.

It’s annoying when people don’t use:

Car blinkers

Car ashtrays

Car gas pedals

Door mats

Manners

Headsets (hands free devices) for cell phones while driving (yeah, in California it is illegal to hold your phone)

Headsets for office phones (we all do not need to hear your conversation even if it is a “business” conversation)

Office doors (see the above)

Crook of your arm when sneezing or coughing (it is better to cough/sneeze into the crook of your arm as opposed to your hand that touches things)

Bathroom sinks (they’re for washing your hands after you use the restroom before you go back to work. Oh yeah, I’ve seen it happen.)

Ok, I honestly just started out with two, but then I thought that looked kind of measly and I let my brain wander.  Let’s see how this one works out. What about you? What bugs you when they are not used properly?

Yeah, “do you know the way to San Jose?” that is what pops into my head, because my blog has strayed . . . . oh well, thanks for putting up with it!

Lyrics Gone Wrong

Posted by terrepruitt on July 16, 2009

Are you bold enough?  Are you secure enough?  Do you have it in you?  Can you admit to what you THOUGHT the lyrics were?

Well, here are a few I can share—whether they were from me or not, I won’t tell—hey, maybe I won’t tell.  Let’s make this post twofold.

1–share with me some lyrics you had wrong (or that a friend of yours had wrong or that someone you know of had wrong.)

2–guess what songs these are:

A–In the Garden of Eden

B–Our Love Is Japanese

C–Painted Glove (oh, c’mon, that one is way easy)

Its too hot here in San Jose, California. I know this will work out, right?   Care to play?

Remote Control Exercise

Posted by terrepruitt on May 7, 2009

Dance is exerciseOk, so you all know the idea behind the remote control is to be able to sit and change the channel while you are seated. Sometimes you hear people comment about how this wonderful gadget allows for the subtraction of movement in one’s life. Well, not in my family.

I actually believe that our particular use of the remote control assist us in getting our exercise. We are the family of “Honey, where is the remote control?” We seem to be unable to actually leave it where it would be most useful—in the “remote control bucket”. And, yes, we have a container for our remote controlS, because we have at least four. As you might be able to image the more you have the better the chance for exercise. There is a remote control for the DVD player (two separate ones for two separate machines!) and a remote for the TV, I won’t list all the remotes, but there are more.

Join me in the “Remote Control Exercise ‘Class’”.

“Ok, Class, let’s WATCH A DVD! Today’s DVD is newly purchased and not yet in the jukebox, so get up off that couch and put it in the machine!”

“Crouch down to the machine. Grab the TV remote to set it to the right screen. Don’t see it? Well get up and look for it! Look for it . . . . .look for it. Don’t see it? Search in the couch, bend and stretch. Crouch on the floor, it might be under the couch. What? Still can’t find it.”

“Check the kitchen. . . . .walk into the kitchen, heel lead, check the bathroom, shuffle to the guest room, shuffle back. Easy jog up the stairs to the master bedroom, still can’t find it? Hmmm?”

“Jog to the garage because you put in a load of laundry before deciding to watch a movie. Got it? Good! Now use those leg muscles to get back on the floor to put the DVD in the machine.”

“Skip back to the couch. Sit. Get comfortable. Start the movie. Oh, wait, did you forget the remote to the DVD player? Jump up to get it. Jog to it. Sit back on the couch—use your thighs, Class! Start the movie. Whoa! The previews are so loud you won’t be able to hear my instructions. Turn down the TV volume. What, you left it by the machine? Jump up to get the TV remote. Remember when you jump up really contract those core muscles!”

“Back to the couch, remember to sit down using your gluts and thighs—don’t plop. Now, here ya, go . . . Oh, get up get the phone. Don’t forget to stop the movie.”

“While you are on the phone, do some chair squats with the couch. One, two, three . . . eleven. Off the phone? This last squat ease all the way down onto that a couch. Stretch for the remote control to start the movie. What? You left it in the kitchen?”

“Jump-up to go get it. While you are there get a glass of water, you must stay hydrated when working out.”

“Sit back on the couch—use your thighs, Class! Start the movi—-what? You left the remote control in the kitchen when you went to get it? Oh, the water distracted you.”

“Jump-up to go get it. Jog to the kitchen. Jog back to the couch. Squat down on to the couch.”

“There you go. Now you can watch your movie. While it is not the best form of exercise you did get in at least twenty minutes of movement all from a little gadget that is allowing you to control your machines from the comfort of your seat!”

Berryessa Art and Wine Festival, 34th Annual – May 9, 2009!

Posted by terrepruitt on May 2, 2009

Come join the fun and help support the music programs at local schools. I almost feel like my blog has become one big service announcement, oh, yeah, my blog, my rules and I like to share things. This festival is so great is because it benefits the schools’ music programs.

NOTE!! This is from 2008 (2009s festival is on May 9--Saturday!)

NOTE! This is the 2008 Sign! The 2009 Festival is on Saturday MAY 9th!

From what I hear this is San Jose’s oldest festival. It is awesome. It is generally small enough to go through in an hour or so, but my husband and I usually spend hours there because we start talking to the vendors and next thing you know we have a new friend.

This festival is also way better than the cancelled-and-you-have-to-know-why-Milpitas Art and Wine Festival because, funny enough, they actually have wine from various wineries. I don’t know what happened to the Milpitas Art and “Wine” Festival, but there was only one winery and it was a winery from which wine is sold at supermarkets for just about $5.00 a bottle and they were expecting attendees to pay more than that per glass. Um . . . .and that might be why there will not be a Milpitas Art and Wine Festival this year. But . . . . the past years at Berryessa there have been at least four wineries. I have a choice. I like that. I go to a festival to try different wine.

I don’t know if you have noticed, but Art and Wine Festivals need our love and attention. This one is only ONE DAY so you have to go Saturday. You don’t have the option of going Sunday. It is in San Jose, really close off of 680 and Berryessa. It is so easy to get to.

The San Jose festival will have micro-breweries, about 100 vendors, local wineries, food from community groups, and a place for the kids to play. There will also be entertainment. They often set the stage up a little bit apart from the vendors, and I know some people that have missed it entirely, so be sure to check to see who is playing.

Let’s keep is going!

Saturday, May 9, 2009, 10 am to 5 pm

Free event!

Penitencia Creek Park
3060 Penitencia Creek Road

Or the Berryessa Community Center
3050 Berryessa Road San Jose, CA 95132

The festival is in the space between both streets.
