Sending Valentine’s Day Cards

Posted by terrepruitt on February 7, 2022

Hopefully it is not too late to do this. I have written the cards and plan to send them tomorrow. I am hoping they get thousands of cards. How fun would that be? I just saw this via a friend on Facebook last night. I thought I would share in case you wanted to send some Valentine’s Day love.

(Summary of Facebook screenshot: Irvine Nursing & Rehabilitation in Kentucky has made it known that some of their clients would be open to receiving Valentine’s Day cards and they have pictures those that want to participate.)

Bra Fix-Its

Posted by terrepruitt on January 12, 2022

From the get go I am going to say it in case it isn’t something that you care to read about . . . bras. I am going to be talking bras here. First I am going to explain a bit about one aspect of bras so that, if you are unfamiliar, you will understand why I am mending them. I have a broken bra. With many things when it breaks or tears just going out and buying a new one will suffice, but that is where some explaining needs to take place. For some of us, we can not just “go out” and buy a new bra. For many of us it is quite an ordeal, that is why I am fixing mine.

First of all bras are expensive. Now I know there are many different kinds and “expensive” is very relative to people, but I personally believe that $75.00 is a lot of for a piece of underclothing. I have an impossible time spending that much so I shop sales and try other avenues to avoid spending that much, but for those that don’t know I feel confident saying that the average price for a good bra is at least $75.00. So, for me I don’t have as many of them as I have of say, t-shirts.

Then there is the idea of finding a “good” bra. Now that word is in quotes because that is a very personal thing. But even though the definition of “good” is personal most of us require certain qualifications and in searching have been through the same thing. It must fit good, look good, and be comfortable. Again, we all have different ideas of fit, look, and comfort, but I would bet that we all have struggled to find it. We many even go so far as to go into a dressing room and put one on then put our own clothes on over it and spend ten minutes moving around to see if it looks right and is comfortable. They can be very deceiving in the store dressing room.  What it boils down to is it is an ordeal.  You may think you found a good one only to get home and be so confused because it is almost as if the sales clerk switched it on you because at home it looks weird and is NO WAY comfortable.  So when I have one I like, I want to keep it.

So, here I am at the mending part. Sometimes, part of the construction fails. And for those of you that don’t know you may be as surprised as us that do know, at which part fails. Is it a strap? No. Is it the hooks in the back? No. It is the portion close to the arm pit that holds in that pointy little wire. And when that pointy little wire makes its way out IT WILL NOT GO BACK IN! It takes a herculean effort to get it back in. And there is no thread and no amount of sewing that will keep it in if you manage to get it back in, once it has made its way out. And you don’t know the frustration and the pain until you have had one of those wires poke and pinch you. Owwww.

So, one would think, just buy a new one, right? But I already covered that. And I just explained that truly there is no way to sew it so it does not come out (at least for me, if you have managed to find the trick, please let me know). What I have resorted to is — PATCHES.

Yup, iron-on patches. That is the only thing I have found that will hold that wire in. This may not be the solution you would like, it may ruin the aesthetic of the bra, but it really all depends on what you want. I want a bra that does not stab me.

I just cut the iron-on patch to fit over the offending hole on both the front of the bra and the back. So I don’t patch it only on the side that it ripped, but I fold it over so it covers both sides and the top so there is no escaping for that evil pointy wire! I had purchased these patches for other things and ended up using them on my bra, but I know they have some cute ones out there that might bring a smile to your face if you had them holding in that evil wire!

Now you may have found a way to get the wire back in and keep it in . . . . if so, please let me know.  In the mean time I am going to patch those wires in!

Do any of you relate to this?

Late Crafts, Late Gifts

Posted by terrepruitt on January 10, 2022

Seriously, if you are going to be crafty for Christmas gifts start early. There was one year I took the entire month of November, but I was doing a lot. This year I was just going to make something for two people so I thought it would be quick. I kept changing my mind, too, as to what I was going to do, but I was going to use some paint pens so I had thought it would be really quick. I always think that artist just sit down at one sitting and create masterpieces so I think I can do that same thing. There are multiple issues with that thought process, but the main two are REAL artists don’t actually do that, they may plan and do multiple drafts and I am not an artist.

I thought, since I was using pens that paint, I could just draw/write on my chosen surface and it would be quick, but as it turns out I don’t think the pens were made for glass. I drew and wrote and in some cases it disappeared by the time I was done with the other side. Multiple times – although, I was being really careful – I assumed I rubbed it off somehow. By the third or fourth time of redrawing / rewriting I was positive the surface didn’t touch anything so I concluded that it was just literally disappearing. So waiting until the week before Christmas was a huge mistake. My quick craft project was turning out to NOT be quick. First I had spent days redoing what I had done thinking that it just needed to dry. Then when it did kind of stay I painted a clear coat over it which completely erased portions of it. So finally I just threw in the paint pen and had to paint over everything with actual paint. The painting is not what takes so long it is the drying time.

Anyway . . . with the multiple tries and coats the ornaments are not what I was hoping, but the candle holders are ok. The multicolored sparkle of the glitter does not show up well in photos (that I take), but it is there.

Hopefully the late gifts will be well received.  I believe both of the recipients were taught “It’s the thought that counts.”  🙂

Do you ever make Christmas gifts?  What kinds?

In 2019, I had painted candle holders also.

Gotta Show It Off

Posted by terrepruitt on January 3, 2022

Since I did complete the daily tracker I wanted to show it off.  I did post when December started, but here it is . . . I managed to do some type of movement everyday.  I have a schedule so it makes it kinda easy to make sure I get it in.  I have found that stretching every day is awesome.  I used to stretch once a week in addition to yoga, but yoga is not stretching and dedicated stretching is a great way to keep moving without aches and pains.  And the key is EVERY DAY.

My calendar was not for 30 minutes of stretching it was for 30 minutes of movement, but I can honestly tell you that there was at least 10 minutes of stretching done every day.  You may want to try it for yourself.

I have seen some GORGEOUS trackers out there.  Are you doing one this year?  You can find it here by clicking, if you want.

Christmas In July

Posted by terrepruitt on December 29, 2021

I’ve heard it said that some people believe that Jesus was actually born in July. I have also hear of “Christmas in July” which I always thought was a marketing ploy. I have not looked up either idea, but at the beginning of the week I was taking a class and the instructor mentioned how winter is the time when our bodies need to slow down and relax. And it dawned on me how absurd it is that we have two major Holidays so close together and in winter. I wish the United States celebrated Thanksgiving in October as our neighbors do. And now I am wishing we had Christmas in July.

A busy, pressured filled Holiday in the middle of summer seems much more logical. The days are long, energy is up it seems right. People could gather outside for cookouts and there could be more gatherings because we wouldn’t be restricted to weekends.  In summer people are willing to do things after work because it is still light and warm. It would also be easier on the people who have a lot of people to buy for because there would be “more time” because it is easier to drive without the threat of bad weather and the days are longer. The more I think about it the more it just makes sense.

Then December could be for what it is actually for . . . it could be a time of rest and “hibernation” we could go into the new year fortified and refreshed.

🙂 I was just kinda thinking it made sense.  Just a thought. What do you think?

Merry Metal Christmas Tree

Posted by terrepruitt on December 22, 2021

I have been wanting a metal tree to hang Christmas ornaments on for years. But we have a lot of Christmas stuff and we really try not to add to it, plus the tree itself was rather expensive, but I kept wanting one. I kept my eye on it and every year the price went up. Then I happened upon one that was half the price of the original one I have been coveting. I think it might not be as sturdy, but it has a lot more “branches” and places to hang ornaments. So this was one of my Christmas presents this year.

I thought hanging ornaments on it would be easy, but it is not. I realized that it is good to hang the ornaments that are 360 kind of ornaments. Because the tree is so visible from every side it is nice to have ornaments that look pretty from all sides. I was also a bit cautious because this is the first time we have had it and I didn’t how sturdy it would be and I didn’t know how the cats would react. I don’t think they have even looked at it. It is pretty good they pay it not attention since I move one of their scratching things and put the tree there.  They just go to the new spot to scratch.

I also had no idea how to hang the lights. I strung them from “branch” to branch where I think it would be cool to wrap them around each branch. I am not sure. I like it, but it took some getting used to.  I hope to get better at it each year.

I like the extra added sparkle in the house.

I had taken videos as I was decorating to document what went where in case I did it the same next year. This is the last one starting about 1/3 of the way down.

As you may have seen in my last post I do have other metal ornament trees, but this one is much larger.  Do any of you have a metal tree?

Lenox Table Top Ornament Tree

Posted by terrepruitt on December 20, 2021

I am doing a search but I am not finding my little ornament tree having been posted. I cannot believe it. Years ago John’s sister gifted us an ornament from Lenox and it started me on my collection of ornaments from them. For many years I was getting their annual snow flake but the quality kept going down so I stopped that. I have so many and I think they are so pretty they have their own little tree that sits on a table where it is fairly safe. Safe from me or anyone knocking it over.

You may see a theme or you probably know me well enough, I love the sparkles. I was sitting at the table this morning and I took a few pictures and now sitting here at my computer trying to write a post I thought I might as well share.

Which one is YOUR favorite?

Striking Cancer With Thunder – Thunderstruck

Posted by terrepruitt on December 8, 2021

I was recently taking a class and the instructor said that AC/DC’s Thunderstruck helps chemotherapy be more effective. I thought about stopping the class (video) to see if I heard correctly, but I was in the middle of it and I didn’t want to interrupt it/myself so I decided to just look it up after class. I was hoping I remembered. Well, I did. That was such an odd claim to me, I wanted to see what it was about. What I found was that there is a specific drug that was found to be assisted by AC/DC’s Thunderstruck.

Are you familiar with the song?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2AC41dglnM?rel=0

In 2016 scientists at the University of South Australia found that vibration was the key to best getting the drug to where it needed to go. They have another method but it was not as efficient as rock music vibration. As you can imagine there is a lot of music but out of their samplings AC/DC’s Thunderstruck did the job the best.

Since I don’t really understand the details enough to write clearly about them and to be accurate and coherent I would just have to copy the articles I read I am just going to list them, in case you want more details. Surprisingly – to me – there aren’t that many or, more accurately, I couldn’t find that many related to the subject. I figured that once scientists knew the specific vibration they needed then they would have designed something to do it, but I didn’t find much about vibrations and chemotherapy so I am not sure that it has taken off.

Still interesting, though.

I believe that vibrations can be good for us . . . I can cite cats’ purring as an example, I just didn’t know that vibrations could help medicine be more effective.  What do you think?
