Green Beetle

Posted by terrepruitt on August 14, 2020

I forgot to post last Friday. I thought about it as I was sitting down to dinner then completely forgot. And today it is so hot I cannot sit at my computer to find a picture but I am lucky I have two more (one after this one) watercolor photos to post. I am assuming the community centers aren’t open to have watercolor classes and I am not there to see any new ones. But I will enjoy the ones that I was able to see. I hope you enjoy them. Even though I don’t like bugs here is a green beetle for today’s Friday Photo.

Meant To Be Together

My friend had asked me if I had any plans for Valentine’s Day.  I replied that I have a yoga class that evening so we wouldn’t be going out and asked her about her plans, she explained that it was her wedding anniversary a couple of days ago which reminded her of a funny story. She had went to the store to buy her husband an anniversary card. A couple of days later she went to look for the card, but did not find it in her usual “card hiding spot”. While she was doing something else she happened to look up and see the card on the bookshelf. So she took it off the shelf and signed it. Later that day she was out and her husband texted her and asked her if she had taken the card that was on the bookshelf and she said yes. She had actually forgotten that when she was at the store she didn’t end up buying the card she had picked out. But the card her husband had purchased for her was the same card. So she had thought she had bought it and put in on the bookshelf – although that was not her usually hiding place.  She ended up giving him the card he bought her!

I thought that was so funny for so many reasons. I know that I have looked at cards and thought I had purchased them only to find out I hadn’t. I sometimes buy cards and misplace them. I know that multiple times my husband and I have purchased the same card and given it to each other twice. In some cases the sentiment was the same but the card maker had added a different picture. I am not sure if we have purchased the same card for each other, but I think we might have. But I know we have not used one another purchased cards. HA! So funny.

Do you have any funny card giving or receiving stories?

Grief Buzz

Posted by terrepruitt on January 29, 2015

Sometimes I just can’t figure it out.  I do know that when my body is fighting off something (a cold, a virus, or the sickness that is going around) I get grumpy.  I don’t get sick, but I get grumpy and I don’t know why.  It is probably because I am feeling less than 100%, but not sick.  My hubby and I have not actually been sick since last January.  Where we got something from the family at the Holiday dinner and it took us down for days.  Me – for one and half to be exact.  I just went to bed.  My hubby took longer to get better because he didn’t just go to bed.  He — like most people have to work.  I was lucky enough that it hit me Thursday after my class and I didn’t have a class on Friday so I slept all day.  I remember it well because I have never just slept like that.  I remember I got up once to make dinner and eat, but then I was back in bed.  I wanted to get rid of it.  Sometimes there are things going on that I allow myself to stress out about.  Like when I am learning a new routine.  I’ve told you that before.  But usually after teaching it for the first time the sense of “nervousness” goes away.  Could be that I messed up bad yesterday and forgot to do something I told someone I would do.  Never have done that before.  Don’t want to do it again.  I do know that is really bothering me.  But it could also be that thing I am trying to not let bother me.  I don’t THINK it is bothering me . . . but I feel odd . . . so it COULD be bothering me.  So like I said, sometimes I just can’t figure it out.  Is my body working really hard to keep from getting sick?  Am I so mad at myself for being forgetful that I can’t forgive myself and have this icky feeling inside?  Or is it that THING I am not thinking about?  And in not thinking about it, I am thinking about it.  I do think that sometimes grief has this “buzz” about it.  It might not be there all big and hairy making you cry and wail, but it is there.  It makes you edgy.  Sometimes even a little jumpy.  And it is not so much that I am not thinking about it, it is more that I was going to try not to mention it.  But . . . . I think, trying not to mention it and trying to just let it be “not a big deal” is in fact making it a big deal.  Grrrr!  So . . . not to make a big deal out of it, but to see if putting it out there helps relieve this tightness (almost like heartburn) in my chest and throat I will no longer ignore the THING.  Today is my mom’s birthday.

She and I are twenty years apart.  She would have been 67.  I had hoped I would have her around until she was in her 80s, but that didn’t happen.

I had thought that my dad and niece and I would get together and do something for my mom’s birthday, but we decided not to.  I never know if my dad is just trying to be brave or if he really thinks he is ok.  I also had secured tickets to an event this weekend so that had me believing my dad and letting him be.  He had a lot of projects he is doing.  “Keeping busy” as he says.

So really, I wasn’t going to say anything, but like, I said, there is something . . . . I can’t figure it out.  So I was thinking NOT SAYING ANYTHING, might be it.  Because otherwise I am excited.  I have a new Nia class.  I mentioned in a recent post that I was going to filling in for someone.  Turns out the “filling in” is going to be a permanent situation.  Remembering, of course, that “permanent” is still a flexible term.  I have to make sure the number of attendees in the other classes don’t go down.  A thought I had had, was, having Nia three times a week, might keep people from coming to the other two classes.  But today we had a record breaker.  So, we will see.

There are also a few other good things going on.  Perhaps they are good, but causing some stress?  I don’t know.  Like I said, sometimes I just can’t figure it out.  All I can figure out is that there is SOMETHING and I don’t like it.  So I am doing things, trying this and trying that to see what works.

What do you think?  Do you agree with the idea that grief can just hang out and make you edgy?  Do you think sometimes it is like that annoying thing you can’t put your finger on?  Do you understand it is not always tears and big time sorrow?  Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia in the City of San Jose, Nia at the San Jose Community Centers, Nia classes in the South Bay, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, San Jose Nia, Nia San Jose, Nia workout, Nia, Gentle Yoga, Group Ex City of San Jose, San Jose Group Ex classes, YMCA, Zumba, PiYo

Good Things And Not-So-Good Things

Posted by terrepruitt on February 15, 2014

Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia at the City of San Jose, Nia classes in the South Bay, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, San Jose Nia, Nia San Jose, Nia workout, Nia, Zumba, PiYo, Gentle YogaWell, I am not doing a weekly post to check in on your Goodie Jar, but I do hope you are still doing it or some variation there of.  Are you?  Are you taking time to recognize the good in life?  I hope so.  I am.  I believe I mentioned that I wanted to us something else to hold my notes regarding the good things.  I have a lot of beautiful bowls and plates.  I decided to use this beautiful blue bowl shaped like a flower.  I think it will be good for another month or so.  I love having this little gem on the counter.  I started off the year using Christmas wrapping paper scraps.  I have other wrapping paper scraps to use and little pieces of paper.  It all adds to the “goodness of the jar” to me.  So far the year is a good one in which to focus on the good things.  As with life there are good things and not-so-good things and that is why we have a good things jar.

I have been teaching Nia at a studio in San Jose where I rent the space.  I have been renting there since January 2009.  At first I rented an hour on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.  But after six months I decided to just rent Mondays and Wednesdays.  Well, after five years, I have decided to just rent Wednesdays.  So it has been five years of teaching on Mondays at the studio.  Monday, February 24, 2014 will be the last one for now.  Mondays are a great day to teach because on Holidays people who work are able to attend, but we don’t have enough holidays.  It could be that something else will come up for Mondays or it could be that one day I start teaching there again on Mondays, but for now, we will not be dancing on Mondays.

The classes at the community center is growing.  I love that more and more people are coming to Nia there.  Also I enjoyed my short time substituting a Nia class at the YMCA in Mountain View.  I am teaching a Gentle Yoga class on Thursday evenings.  And have been asked to teach another Gentle Yoga class on Tuesday mornings.  So while one class ends a new one begins.

We are going to have to move our after-Nia-Class-visits to Wednesday.  We have one more Monday that we are going to meet.  We have been going to Peet’s on the second to the last Monday of the month for about a year now.  So we will have to move it to the second to the last Wednesday.  I love that our little Nia community gathers after class.  I need to get this type of gathering going with the community center Nia group.

So, I am still putting things in my goodie jar.  Still looking for, finding, recognizing, seeing those good things.  I hope that no matter what is going on in your life you are able to find something good.  Something you want to make a note of so that you can read it later on.  I really enjoyed reading my good things at the end of the year.  Much of it was about Nia but not all of it.  Most of it had to do with love.  People showing ME love and that is MORE than a good thing, that is GREAT.  I hope you have a lot of moments of love that you can jot down and put in your jar.

Well . . . . how is it going?

Fun, Beautiful, A Great Addition – San Jose Art

Posted by terrepruitt on August 25, 2012

Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia at the City of San Jose, Nia classes in the South Bay, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, San Jose Nia, Nia San Jose, Nia I cannot believe it has been over a month since I was driving around to the Community Centers of San Jose that offer Group Ex classes checking out their floors!  Since we do Nia bare footed I wanted to see what community centers have dance studios.  While I was looking for the community centers is when I first noticed the painted utility boxes around.  I can’t believe it has been over a month since I was driving from my Nia class in Willow Glen and I noticed someone painting the utility box that I pass all the time.  Over a month ago!  Wow.  Time goes so fast.  I was hoping to have more pictures of more boxes, but I haven’t seen any since then.  I must not be in the areas where there are boxes — could also be that I am a little distracted and not noticing the boxes.  Sigh.  Anyway . . . I think the artist might have completed painting these boxes in one day.  I am not certain because I didn’t drive by again until the following Monday and I didn’t stop to take pictures until a week after I first stopped.  I was just waiting to post because I didn’t want to have the utility box posts right in a row.  I don’t mind having Nia posts, or exercise posts, or food posts consecutively, I just didn’t want to have utility box posts one after the other.  Before I knew it, it has been a month.  Wow.Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia at the City of San Jose, Nia classes in the South Bay, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, San Jose Nia, Nia San Jose, Nia workout, Nia

The first picture is a shot of the front of the boxes together straight on.  The next “picture” is a collage (obviously) of pictures of different angles so you can somewhat see the side of the boxes.  The second collage is pictures of the back of the boxes and the little label disclosing the artist and the sponsor.

Looks as if the birds are driving around in San Jose.  These boxes are on Bird Avenue so I think it makes total sense that birds are driving cars, vans, motorcycles, sports cars, and delivery trucks.Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia at the City of San Jose, Nia classes in the South Bay, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, San Jose Nia, Nia San Jose, Nia workout, Nia

You might have noticed that the artist incorporated the vent on the back of the box painting it as if it is the back of a truck.  Cute.  You may also have noticed that one truck seems to be carrying eggs.  I think Mr. Willis is showing his sense of humor by having a bird drive around as either an egg delivery service or perhaps a pickup service.

It is quite a cheery little mural.  Also very responsible.  You might not be able to see, but all of the birds on scooters or motorcycles have on helmets.  It is a law in California that you have to wear a helmet, so it is good of the artist to have legally correct drivers. I am not sure that any birds have been ticketed for not doing so, but it is still a good idea!

So what do you think?  Cute, huh?  Have you seen any painted utility boxes in your area?  If you have I would love to see.  Send me a picture with some information and I can post it.
