New Year’s Eve 2021

Posted by terrepruitt on December 31, 2021

Today’s Friday Photo is a painting I did in August when I was able to join a Zoom Paint Nite.  So fun.  And I like it.  I’ve done two others that I don’t like as much.  Well, one, not at all!

The Good Things Of 2014, Onto 2015

Posted by terrepruitt on January 1, 2015

This year we were lucky to have a visitor for our Goodie Jar reading.  My niece was visiting and she helped us relive the moments that made us smile.  I am a smart enough aunt to know that I have an amazing niece so she was mentioned often in my notes of “Good Things”.  Here are some of the highlights from the jar:

Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia in the City of San Jose, Nia at the San Jose Community Centers, Nia classes in the South Bay, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, San Jose Nia, Nia San Jose, Nia workout, Nia, Gentle Yoga, Group Ex City of San Jose, San Jose Group Ex classes, YMCA, Zumba, PiYo~My niece treated us to the Nutcracker Ballet in San Francisco

As you can see from the pictures there were a lot more.  I’ve had some people ask me what to put in the Good Things Jar.  It really is up to you.  I am seeing a lot of different versions of “jars” this year so I really think it all depends on you.  What do you want your jar to do?  The point of my jar is to keep me focused on the GOOD THINGS IN LIFE.  There are so many things that can be considered “not good”.  It is very easy to get distracted and end up with a negative attitude and to forget all of the blessings that are around us.  So, for me, it is a way to keep the blessings in my life at the forefront.  That does not mean I can’t be sad or get mad or pout . . . .or whatever . . . it just is a reminder to not stay sad, mad, or pouty.  Because that — to me is an insult to the good stuff.

There is another benefit to my Goodie Jar.  In addition to making a note and helping me stay focused it really is fun for me to read the good things at the end of the year and to remember.  While my family might not enjoy it as much as I do . . . they tolerate it.  I even tell stories regarding some of the GOOD THINGS, if they will let me.

Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia in the City of San Jose, Nia at the San Jose Community Centers, Nia classes in the South Bay, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, San Jose Nia, Nia San Jose, Nia workout, Nia, Gentle Yoga, Group Ex City of San Jose, San Jose Group Ex classes, YMCA, Zumba, PiYoI have mentioned before in posts that I like to use different types of paper.  I like to fold them in different shapes and ways.  It makes the jar look festive.  I noticed last night that the ones my niece grabbed to read were the spiral ones, the ones folded in shapes, or the really festive looking.  Yeah, it is fun.

Also pictured here is this post are the pieces of paper we are going to use to fill up the jar in 2015.  Yeah, it started off as a one-time thing, but this will be our third year of doing it.  I am really loving this tradition.  I love the practice throughout the year.  I love the decorative jar that sits out all year round reminding me that there has been good things.  I love the “ceremony” (to me it is) of reading the good things.

I wish I could remember the origin of this aside from Facebook.  I mean, I know WHO I got it from, but I don’t remember where/who SHE got it from.  But the Good Things jar was not my idea.  Using a beautiful pitcher is my idea and filling it with different types of paper is my idea.  Re-using wrapping paper . . . my idea.  But the original idea . . . . don’t know.  But THANK YOU!

So, what good things have happened to you in 2014?  Do you have a Goodie Jar?  Are you going to have one for 2015?

Happy New Year! Here’s To 2014!

Posted by terrepruitt on December 31, 2013

Well, last Friday I posted what was going to be my last Goodie Jar check in, but since today is Tuesday and it is my regular posting day and it is ALSO New Year’s Eve, the day I get to read my good things, I thought I would post about my Goodie Jar one last time.  I want to wait until my hubby is home so we can go through it together, but I think with a year of good things mostly relating to Nia he might get a little bored while I read them all.  Plus, I want to post about some of them so . . . . I have decided to read a few and post about them and then do the rest while we are together.  Because it is not as if by me reading them by myself they get used up and are no longer good things.  I can still share them with him when he gets home.  So it is all good — I think.

As you know, as I am sure you experience, there are a lot things that happen in life.  We tend to assign “good” and “bad” labels to them.  It is just a common thing for us to do.  Some people can find “good” in “bad” situations and “bad” things and it seems as if some people can’t find the “good” in anything.  But since life has its ups and downs and things that happen no matter what, sometimes it is nice to make note of the things that made you happy or made you smile or made you think less about the “bad” things and more about the “good” things.

Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia at the City of San Jose, Nia classes in the South Bay, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, San Jose Nia, Nia San Jose, Nia workout, Nia, Zumba, PiYo, Gentle YogaI really enjoyed making my notes.  As you can see I used all types of paper.  I thought it would be fun to have not only a full jar, but a visually intriguing jar.  I used colored envelopes and wrapping paper and a bunch of different types of paper.  I think it made the jar look like a good thing itself.

So here are some of the good things I have in my jar:

Sat., Sept. 21, 2013:  Nice rain.  Sliders open.  Peaceful.

Tuesday, Dec. 10:  Dinner with cousin Tracy.  House of Genji – Katy, Jim, Pattie, Pop, John, Tracy, Me

Teach at the Tannery!  Awesome!  Fri. 6.21.13

Dec. 10, 2013   Spot ~ Wonderful Girlie!

Ahhh.  Nice to be reminded of the Good Things that happened and that the things I have are good.  I am blessed.  It is a good thing to live in a place that has beautiful weather.  It is a good thing to be able to visit with family.  It is a good thing to be able to fill in as a Nia Sub and to do it at a wonderful studio.  And it is a really good thing to have such a great cat.

I hope you have a full jar.  I hope that you had a lot of good things this year.  I hope that you are able to enjoy what you have.

If you want please share some of the good things you put in your jar.  You don’t even have to explain them.  Just let us know what you put down on paper and put in your jar.

I see post on Facebook again about people doing this for 2014.  I do hope they do.  I have another project in mind for myself.  A more personal one.  I am sure I will post something about it as the year goes on.  I will probably do a post or two about good things too.  I think it is important to remember them and you know I use my blog as documentation for so many things.  So I am sure I will document some good things here.

I do hope that you can see the good that has happened this past year and reflect on that . . . and I hope that you are able to make 2014 a GREAT year for you and yours!

Cheers!  Happy 2014!

Year End Review Of Terre’s 2011 Important Posts – Part II

Posted by terrepruitt on December 31, 2011

Not all of my posts on my list of Year End Review Of Terre’s 2011 Important Posts are Nia posts, but some of them are,  Here are the remaining four of nine that I thought were important enough to re-share.  This is the second half of my Year End Review Post.  When I wrote it as one post, it just seemed too long so I split it up.  Thanks for checking in.  As with the first half, I am just going to give a little summary so you can have the main point right here and you don’t have to go to the original post. But if you WANT to go to the original post (and comment even) please do! I am listing these in order of when they were posted.

I think of this post Muscle Weighs More Than Fat as being something we all need to be reminded of. Muscle DOES NOT weigh more than fat. The saying that muscle weighs more is one of those things that a lot of us say, but it is not correct. A pound of muscle weighs as much as a pound of fat. A pound of anything cannot weigh more than a pound of something else. A pound of muscle will take up a lot less room than a pound of fat as you will see in the picture on this post if you click over. 😉

If you are interested in a dance class that is pretty, a class that produces a performance then Nia is probably not what you are looking for. Nia Might Not Be Pretty — To Some. Nia is about authentic movement. Nia is about moving the body the way it was designed to be moved. Not everyBODY can move the way it was designed. There might be injuries, defects, tightness, or just plain ol’ non-use involved so it might not be pretty as we learn to move. But it is beautiful. This post reminds you that it is what it is and what it is not is a performance. A Nia class is freedom of movement, something to be enjoyed from the angle of the participant and not someone watching.

I have a post about listening with love, but the title is Let Love Be Your Ears. Ya know sometimes titles need to intrigue a potential reader, I was hoping that is what this title was. But the post is about listening with love. We all have heard and some of us might try to live by the old “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” But LISTENING with love is different. Not that common of a “golden rule”. We are not always taught we need to love ourselves, so we might not listen as if people are talking to us with love and not accusations and criticisms.  This might be something we have to practice.  Also listening with love can include giving the person talking a lot of “benefit of the doubt”.  Trying to see where they might be coming from.

Another post is about dance being exercise. It is a reminder that you can have fun and get exercise at the same time. Nia is just that!

So that is the last four on my list of posts I think really could use repeating. I know I picked a few because I need to work on some of them/it myself. I hope that you enjoyed either the summary or the posts themselves. I thank you very much for taking the time to read this. If you have been reading my blog and you recognize some of these I thank you.  I really appreciate you taking the time to read.  If you take the time to read and comment, I am really grateful and I very much appreciate it.

And, of course, I wish you a very happy and safe New Year’s Eve.  I wish you many, many, many opportunities to embrace happiness and experience joy in 2012.  Happy New Year.
