Fear-Less

Posted by terrepruitt on October 23, 2019

I could have sworn I posted about this ages ago. I vaguely remember typing something up. I think the name had stopped me from posting about it in the past. Everyone I tell about it comments something to the effect, “Well, I’m not AFRAID.” So, I think the name is really off-putting. It could be some people might not equate being unable to fall asleep with “fear, anxiety, or panic”. I don’t know many people that want to admit feeling those things. And when we are unable to fall asleep we might not think of it as fear or anxiety or panic. Often times people just say they “can’t turn off their brain.” But to me that equates to anxiety. I am anxious that I didn’t get all that I wanted to get done that day. Or I am anxious about all that I have to do tomorrow. Anyway . . . I don’t like the name . . . I wish they would change it. I feel that they might get more people purchasing it if they gave it a different name. (But, really, I don’t know how many people DO purchase it, so that is a silly thought on my part!) I am talking about Fear-Less. It is a formula made from flowers from Flower Essence Services.

Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia in the City of San Jose, Nia classes in the South Bay, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, San Jose Nia, Nia San Jose, Nia workout, Nia, Gentle Yoga, Group Ex classes, YMCA, Zumba, Nia Technique, SJ City Fit, SJCityFit, City of San Jose Exercise Classes, Cambrian Yoga & Cardio Dance, CYCD, Yin YogaThis formula is described as something that can be used for “any known condition that provokes fear or anxiety – such as public performance or travel”. The site goes onto say that it is good for times of panic and chaos. Also, that is can help children and pets. I really think they could add that it helps in simple situations like traffic or being unable to sleep. Traffic is annoying, to me, and this helps with that aggravation. Flower Essence Services also sells a sleep formula so that could be why they don’t promote this one as something that can help you sleep. I don’t like their sleep formula as much. I think Fear-Less works better for me.

Sometimes I just have a lot on my mind or I am not really that tired, but I know that I have to go to bed because I have to get up early the next morning. I just use a few squirts of this. Or sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and an idea pops into my head and I could easily just start to choreograph a dance or plan a routine, but I know I should just go back to sleep, so I just spray some of it in my mouth. You can take it orally or spray it on you or around you, like on your pillow and sheets.

There are many reasons one might want to simply want to feel a little more calm . . . this might be something that could help*. It works for me.

Do you have any remedies for trouble falling asleep?  Or any remedies to help you feel more calm?

Freezer Staples

Posted by terrepruitt on October 14, 2019

Not too long ago I claimed to cheat at dinner in my post about how I sometimes use a prepared meal or frozen entree (sometimes I actually use a side) to make up a portion of a meal. I am sure we all do it, right? Well, if not, I know I am not unique in doing it and it is nothing new. I was curious as to what you might have in your freezer as a staple. Here is what I like to have in my freezer:

a lasagna
Annie’s pasta bowl
Annie’s enchilada meal
meatballs
quiche

Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia in the City of San Jose, Nia classes in the South Bay, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, San Jose Nia, Nia San Jose, Nia workout, Nia, Gentle Yoga, Group Ex classes, YMCA, Zumba, Nia Technique, SJ City Fit, SJCityFit, City of San Jose Exercise Classes, Cambrian Yoga & Cardio Dance, CYCD, Yin YogaAlthough the last time I bought some frozen meatballs I was sorely disappointed because I LOVE them, but I purchased the wrong kind and I didn’t love the ones I bought as much as I usually do.

I don’t have ALL of these items in my freezer at the same time, but hopefully I have one or two. With the lasagna sometimes I have a larger size and we actually eat it as our entree, but sometimes I just have a single serving and just use it to complete the meal either adding it to meat or sometimes pasta. The same with the pasta bowl. I might add meat to it or additional pasta or use it as a side to an entree. With the enchiladas there are two and we each get one and I add meat or veggies to make two meals. The sausages sometimes get eaten as an entree or I add it to potatoes and/or eggs, or pasta or put it on a tortilla and call it a pizza. It just depends.

The meatballs are sometimes the entree. Sometimes I add them to pastas, sometimes I put it on a tortilla and call it a pizza, it all depends. But I really like have a bag of them in the freezer. As I said, though, the last bag disappointed me. It was the same brand but the meat and the spices were different and they actually caused such a fuss in my oven that it shutdown. They are greasy and caused a lot of smoke.

The quiche is usually used as the entree and we can have it two nights. It is yummy and bakes up rather fast.

I can’t think of what else I like to have on hand to help with dinner, but I am sure I am forgetting something.

What about you? What do you have in your freezer that is a staple?

Protective Skin

Posted by terrepruitt on October 7, 2019

I received a cool speaker last year for my birthday. It is a Beats Pill+. It is pretty cool. It is a pretty powerful speaker. It’s battery last a good long time. It is kind of heavy. I wouldn’t want to carry it in my purse. But I do carry it around the house when I am listening to a book or I just want some music playing while I am doing stuff around the house. I have the white one, which I like. But sometimes it gets dirty. I try not to set it down on a place that is dirty but sometimes it gets a little dirty. Also sometimes my hands might get it a little dirty. I have been trying to keep it from getting stained. I wipe it down when it gets dirty. But the other day I noticed some pink or red around the pause button. I don’t know what it is, but it didn’t come off all the way. I had once looked for something that would allow me to sling it over my shoulder or wear it like a cross-body bag, but I hadn’t found one and then I forgot about it. But with the speaker getting stained (a little) I thought maybe they have cases or something to keep it from getting scratched or dirty. I found MightySkins.

Of course I was excited because they had blue and I love blue. And then I saw one called “Perfect Wave”. It is blue and green and looks like a wave. So I ordered that.

They are kind of like vinyl clings, but more “elasticy”.

It is pretty cool. I am pretty happy. I just got it and put it on the other day, so I haven’t really moved and carried the speaker around much since I got the skin, but I like the look. I am assuming it will be fine just helping keep the dirt off.

It looks cool, don’t you think? They have skins for gaming units, laptops, tumblers, coolers, cell phones and more. You can even design your own.

For my phone I need a protective case so I don’t need a skin. But I think it is perfect for my speaker.

What do you think? Do you want to jazz up your phone or laptop with a cool skin?

Give A Little Love

Posted by terrepruitt on September 18, 2019

Ok, so I am sitting at my computer trying to come up with something to post. I have come up with a few ideas but all of them have to do with Yin Yoga because I have that on the brain somewhat since I just started teaching a Yin Yoga class. I really, really love the practice and I just want to keep on about it, but I don’t want to inundate you all with just yoga stuff. I also kinda wanted to take the day off because my hubby is cooking dinner and I would like to be down in the kitchen visiting with him. One thing I did to try to give me a post idea was I looked at the number of views for my posts. I started a couple of posts as follow up post to help give some of my post some love. But again, I want to be downstairs because I hear my honey in the kitchen. So, I decided to just list a few of my posts that I think are still relevant and could be of interest to you. I have been blogging 10 years so I would bet that some of you have missed a few posts. Well, maybe click on a link below if something catches your eye.

Thanks.

Inflammation – a quick little read that might give you something to think about

Loose Feeling Joints – too loose might not be a good thing

Trauma – a cream I used to like, I think they changed the ingredients or marketed as Traumeel now

Push Workout – Sample – like it says

Vase Are Like That, Ya Know? – a post about not knowing what to write, and then turning to life

Mews Of Change – announcement of changing our cats’ names

Ok, I’m off to celebrate and be with hubby.

Thanks for stopping by!

Short Straws

Posted by terrepruitt on September 9, 2019

Every once in a while I like to have a cocktail and usually cocktails include ice . . . at least the one I drink.  (Hubby’s Moscow Mule)  But I don’t like to drink out of the glass and have the ice get on my lip or smash into my face. I like to use straws. Well, I have A STRAW. I think it was long, but I cut it to fit our copper mugs. I have been using it for over a year. I decided I wanted to get some reusable straws to that I don’t have to keep using the same ONE STRAW. I had been looking at them, but then it occurred to me that I don’t want a long straw, I wanted a short ones. So I jumped on good ol’ Amazon recently and bought some.

Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia in the City of San Jose, Nia classes in the South Bay, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, San Jose Nia, Nia San Jose, Nia workout, Nia, Gentle Yoga, Group Ex classes, YMCA, Zumba, Nia Technique, SJ City Fit, SJCityFit, City of San Jose Exercise Classes, Cambrian Yoga & Cardio Dance, CYCD, Yin YogaI was not really paying attention to what I was buying because they were pretty affordable so I just ordered them. I hadn’t seen the listing show that it came with a brush as did a lot of the other ones, so I was very pleasantly surprised when I read the box when it arrived and it said it included a brush. I also hadn’t seen that the bottoms were angled . . . also a big plus.

Well, so far we have used them once and we both liked them. See, normally my husband doesn’t even get a straw because we have ONE STRAW, but now we have enough for him to use one, too. He was rather happy about that. And I think he really enjoyed drinking his cocktail via straw.

He was pleasantly surprised that it was sturdy enough to use as a stirrer. It really turned out to be necessary because we were sprinkling powdered ginger into our drinks.  We weren’t drinking Moscow Mules at the time.

Anyway . . . I am just sharing another purchase that turned out really good so far. Granted, we have only used them once. So we will see how they hold up.

They are not the prettiest of colors, but . . . I wasn’t really concerned about that. I was looking at length and material. I wanted to be able to put it in the dishwasher and these are able to be run through.

Do you prefer to use a straw when drinking a drink with ice?  Do you have straws at home?

HELP! Which Emoji Do I Use?

Posted by terrepruitt on August 28, 2019

Do you use emojis? Frankly I am afraid to! I don’t know what half of them mean and sometimes the meaning that is assigned to them is just way off target, in my opinion. I don’t actually text that many people and so I really don’t have that many opportunities to use them – thank God! – but sometimes even then I use them wrong. My most used emoji is the kissing face with a heart*

Face Blowing a Kiss on Apple iOS 12.2 because I primarily only text with people I love; my husband, my niece, three or four of my friends.  I just recently noticed it was winking and promptly forgot that it was.

And, just a side note, what is up with that “FREQUENTLY USED”? I can use an emoji once OR . . . . or really not even USE it, just click on it to see what it is or click on it accidentally and not even send it and it still appears on my “FREQUENTLY USED”. That bugs me because then it takes the place of one I do use, but maybe not “”FREQUENTLY” and then I have to go searching for it again.

Ok, back to the emojis themselves. I recently read a post where there was

Hugging Face on Apple iOS 12.2

and

Kissing Face on Apple iOS 12.2

and someone wrote “why the hug and kiss emojis?” I was surprised, I really thought the first one was Jazz Hands and that is how I use it. And you might wonder how one uses Jazz Hands in a conversation . . . well, I can’t really explain that, but I do! So case in point as to why I am afraid to use emojis. I think a lot of them are not what I think they are.

Before I started typing this I did a search to see if the first one was a hug, I found 25 Secret Second Meanings of These Popular Emojis and it said

Open Hands on Apple iOS 12.2is a hug. Again, not sure I would have used X as a hug. But then again those are the SECRET SECOND MEANINGS. I just type HUG or HUGS (or hug or hugs) since I don’t know the correct emoji. I didn’t even read all of the explanations in that article because I don’t see myself needing to know the SECRET meanings.

Ah . . . .looking at the other results; here it is Emojipedia. Now I can use emoji safely. I knew there was a site that would steer me in the right directions I just haven’t looked it up before.

What about you? Do you use emojis?  What do you use the most? Are you going to use emojipedia to see if you are using them “correctly”?  Do you have your own meaning for any of them?

*which I just learned was blowing a kiss, I always use it as I love you and I am kissing you!

Keep Moving

Posted by terrepruitt on August 21, 2019

I wrote this post four years ago when I started watching Grace and Frankie. I found it and thought I would post it because it still holds true, except now they are four years older. I don’t even remember the episode in which she put her foot in the kitchen sink . . . they’ve done so much since then. And, yeah, it is crap, but it is funny crap.

Okay, let’s make a deal: I won’t judge you and your choice of TV shows, if you don’t judge me. Well, to be honest, I won’t judge you even if you do judge me, because I know I watch crap. In fact, I think all TV (except some documentaries) series are crap. I do believe TV is crap, however, sometimes there is some pretty funny crap on TV. Recently I came across Grace and Frankie. Funny crap. What made me even look at it was the picture that came up on Netflix. It is a Netflix original series and the ad for it was RIGHT there on our opening screen. I didn’t recognize Jane Fonda at first. The picture looked a little “too young” in my opinion. So I clicked on the whatever to take me to the summary and I couldn’t believe it and could not imagine that (the situation on which the series is built) happening so I decided to watch the first episode. Regardless of what you may think of Jane Fonda that woman is impressive.  Any the my main point to this post is you gotta keep moving.

I was sharing how amazed I was by the way Jane Fonda looked and someone said, “Yeah well, I am sure she has had a lot of work done.” I said I didn’t care I still thought she looked amazing. Then another friend piped in and said something to the effect that, yeah she is 77 so she has had to have work done, but it doesn’t LOOK like it. Sometimes you look at people and you want to know who their doctor is so you NEVER go to them. I agreed.

But what really amazed me was in one episode she had just some in from the beach and she wanted to rinse off her foot, in the kitchen sink. She just swung her leg up into the sink. Yup, 77 years old. I know a lot of 17 year olds that couldn’t do that. Then she swung it down. And she swung her OTHER leg up on the counter to dry it off — which is funny because she didn’t actually rinse that one — at least that we saw. But anyway, my point is, so amount of cosmetic surgery is going to help you swing your leg up into a kitchen sink.

You might not have the means or money or desire to keep your face looking young. You may not want to get nips and tucks to look svelte. But I hope you want to be able to walk with comfort and ease. And keeping your joints flexible doesn’t cost anything. Working to keep your mobility and strength up doesn’t require a cosmetic surgeon.

I know I will never look like Jane Fonda, but I do hope that when I am 77 I am still washing my feet in the sink and drying them on the counter.

Let me not close without saying that Lily Tomlin looks positively lovely in this show too. I am thinking she is in good looking shape, too, but her character wears long flowy things so we never really get to see. But again, who cares. She is in her 70s to and she is doing a TV series for Heaven’s sake. I am not in the industry of TV or movies, but I do understand that it is not easy. They might make it look easy but it is not. So any of these people past 70 doing TV and movies have to be in pretty decent shape. It is just the cherry on top if they look great doing it.

Move it or lose it!

Do you watch Grace and Frankie? Do you agree that a body needs to move in order to keep moving?

Relationships That Affected Us All

Posted by terrepruitt on August 19, 2019

We got in the car on Sunday evening expecting to be home by 8:30 pm, 9:00 at the latest.  We got home at 11:30 pm.  Yeah, it took us two hours to go six miles.  I wasn’t driving, I don’t think I could have made it.  There was a semi-truck that caught fire and then caused a wild fire.  I don’t know any more details besides – thankfully – there were no injuries and it pretty much doubled the time it takes us to get home.  UGH.  But, as is our thing lately we listen to books on Audible.  On the way we listened to a hilarious science fiction called “The Adventures of Tom Stranger, Interdimensional Insurance Agent.”  It was performed by Adam Baldwin and was pretty funny.  I really hope Larry Correia writes more and gets Adam to perform again.  Since I figure not all of you are interested in science fiction that is all I will say about that one.  But the other one we listened to might have a broader appeal since it has to do with history.  Even though it is about history that affected us all it is not told in the same light as I am familiar with most history being told.  It is presented more in the framework of relationships.  So, it was more interesting to me than the stating of a person’s accomplishments.  This book gives you some ideas as to why certain things are now a part of our society and history.  The book is “Rivals!  Frenemies Who Changed the World.”  It is four short stories about real people.  And it is VERY interesting.

Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia in the City of San Jose, Nia classes in the South Bay, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, San Jose Nia, Nia San Jose, Nia workout, Nia, Gentle Yoga, Group Ex classes, YMCA, Zumba, Nia Technique, SJ City Fit, SJCityFit, City of San Jose Exercise Classes, Cambrian Yoga & Cardio Dance, CYCDI didn’t know that “most of our dinosaur fossils were discovered because two grown men absolutely hated each other.”  Did you?  This story blew my mind, I mean, I am ok with dinosaur bones, but I don’t understand the desire to own them.  And by own them I don’t mean own some of them, I mean OWN THEM ALL.  Own ALL of the dinosaur bones.  What IS that even? And the race to be the first one to pronounce the discovery of them led to so many mistakes is the categorizing and EVERYTHING about dinosaurs for so long.  I didn’t know any of this.  That they started out as friends is what is amazing, then their desire to outdo the other one is what made them crazy.  Who won, Cope or Marsh?  Is it he who owns the most wins?  Or he who named the most wins?

Then I learn that I have been saying Adidas all wrong, it is actually AhdeDAAS (AH-dee-DAHS according to Wiki).  More German sounding . . . because it is German.  Two brothers started making shoes in 1924, and is often the case in families, they did not agree on things.  But as is not often the case in families each brother actually accused the other of being a Nazi.  As you can imagine they didn’t work well together and they split with one brother formed Puma.  These companies were responsible for an entire town being divided.  So divided that if you were in a shop that sided with Adidas and you were wearing Puma shoes you would be refused service.  It was crazy.  Then as the years went on the feuding did not stop and was passed onto sons.  All of this family feuding was the start of the corporate sponsoring in sports.  It is incredible the lengths they went to in order to have athletes wear their shoes.  I am still shaking my head.  And this was family!

Then there is the story of Queen Elizabeth and Mary Queen of Scots.  While I may not be divulging any spoilers by saying Mary Queen of Scots ended up being beheaded, I will let you listen to the details of that beheading as it did not go smoothly.  The story reminds us that royalty and politicians have behaved badly throughout history.

The last story just cements that idea as we hear about Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton. The book mentions this might be “the most famous rivalry of all time”. It is an interesting story and somewhat funny (but not really) to hear that politicians have been doing the same things to each other and the public since there was such a thing. The story briefly explains how Hamilton “hindered Burr’s career and insulted his character for 15 years”. It also gives a history of duels which I was unaware of as I am only familiar with the “old west” type of duels.

I don’t really remember any of the history we were exposed to in school and I am not really interested in it so I don’t seek it out. So a lot of this was new and interesting to me. And the way it was told, read, and performed was very entertaining. If you are slightly interested in history I think you will enjoy this. I know I did. It also helped get us through the two hours of sitting and barely moving on the freeway.

Do you like to learn about history? Do you like to listen to books? Did you know any of this?

Six, Five, Three . . . Let’s Just Keep On Going!

Posted by terrepruitt on July 22, 2019

Last Thursday while I was teaching the Thursday evening yoga class I realized that I had been teaching at the Willow Glen Community for six years. Then I looked at my How Long Have You Been Teaching Here? post and realized it was six years to the day! I started teaching gentle yoga at that community center on July 18 in 2013. It was supposed to be a temporary gig.

Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia in the City of San Jose, Nia classes in the South Bay, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, San Jose Nia, Nia San Jose, Nia workout, Nia, Gentle Yoga, Group Ex classes, YMCA, Zumba, Nia Technique, SJ City Fit, SJCityFit, City of San Jose Exercise Classes, Cambrian Yoga & Cardio Dance, CYCDI am happy to say that they kept asking me back.  Hopefully we can keep the class going for many more years to come. It has grown in attendance, which is nice. It started out with maybe five people and now we are cutting off the sign up at 22 (I think). Usually, not all the people that sign up show up at the same time so we end up with 12 to 15 people.

I’ll also have been teaching Nia on Thursdays for six years this year, but in September. The original time we started back in 2013 was 8:45. I understand the necessity for classes starting on the quarter hour, but sometimes that is not as standard as on the hour or half hour so we were able to change it to a 9:00 am start time in 2015.

Then we even changed locations in January of 2019. The program under which Nia was offered with the City of San Jose was cancelled. The feedback I received from the participants was that they wanted a class that they could drop into – which was not going to be allowed under the new program. So I found a new place to have Nia on Thursdays. We were so lucky that it happens to be right down the street from the community center AND it is on the same day AND it is at the same time. I am so happy that I was able to keep it so close to the same as to make it very convenient for the students. So, as I said, come September 2019, I will have been teaching Nia on Thursday for six years!

In February it had been five years that I have been teaching gentle yoga at the Cypress Community Center. At the time I was teaching Nia before the yoga class so I wasn’t able to step into the original class time when they called to ask me to teach it, but the students that had been signed up for that session agreed to move the class to 10:30. So the class has been at 10:30 on Tuesdays since February 2014.

Our stretch class has been going on for three years. This one is the one that have changed the most. First of all before I started teaching the class it was held at noon. But when I took over we moved it to 10:15 (that weird start time) because I was teaching Nia from 9:00 to 10:00 and when I took over teaching stretch we had to relocate from one room to the next so we needed time to do that. Plus it is always nice to have at least 10 minutes in between classes so that students can exit and enter and those wanting to take both classes can take care of any needs they might have (the instructor too!). Stretch was at the community center, but again, when the city changed programs the students wanted to have class passes and drop-ins so we moved stretch to the same place we moved Nia. Not enough people attended the stretch class though, so the studio could not support it.

So, we moved stretch to the park. The park is great. It is a very nice park. It suits our needs just in fine. There is a huge tree under which we can put our mats. Most of the time the students start off with their mats in the sun and after about 15 minutes they move into the shade. But even though we have great weather in California, we will not be able to stay outside through the winter so we are moving back to the community center. If you want to join us for stretch at the community center, please register. Here is a link to my site that will have the links to register. I don’t want to put the links here as they will die eventually and I rather not have dead links on my blog. (I try not to.)

When we moved stretch to the park we adjusted the start time so that we would have time to get from the studio to the park. It starts at 10:30. When it moves to the community center it will start at 10:30 because I will still need the time to get from the studio to the community center. It actually only takes about 5 minutes to get to either place from the studio, but I can’t guarantee that I can leave right after class. Sometimes I have to talk to students and/or attend to other things so it is safest to start class when I can guarantee for the most part that I can be there.

Well, this post just start out because I was excited that I had been teaching gentle yoga at the Willow Glen Community center for six years to the day and wanted to share . . . the other info just seemed a logical follow.

Do you take any group exercise classes?

Trackball Or Mouse?

Posted by terrepruitt on July 17, 2019

Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia in the City of San Jose, Nia classes in the South Bay, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, San Jose Nia, Nia San Jose, Nia workout, Nia, Gentle Yoga, Group Ex classes, YMCA, Zumba, Nia Technique, SJ City Fit, SJCityFit, City of San Jose Exercise Classes, Cambrian Yoga & Cardio Dance, CYCDThe way I remember it, a long time ago I got a new computer and my husband said they didn’t make trackballs that worked with it. So for many, many, many years I have been using a mouse. My mouse was wireless. It has a base that it sits in to get charged. Sometimes I wouldn’t put it in correctly and it wouldn’t get charged so I couldn’t use it. About a year or so ago it started not working. It would work, then not work, then work, then not work. I got tired of that so I just used a mouse that was just lying around, but it had a cord. The way my computer is set up I had to have the cord across my keyboard or my lap. It would interfere with my typing. When it wasn’t on the desk interfering with my typing it would be on my lap interfering with my chair. It was so annoying. Finally I decided to get a mouse. I looked online really quick one day and saw one for less than $10.00. Cool. But when I investigated further I saw trackballs. Oh, be still my heart. I love trackballs. And to really make my heart soar the ball itself was blue. So I set my sights on a trackball.

Even though I can read and it said it worked with Macs or PCs, just to be sure my hubby wanted to research it. He also was looking to see if there was something better out there. But the one I chose not only was blue (squeee!) it was a Logitech so I was pretty confident it was a good one.

The space in which I have to use a mouse/trackball is very small. With a mouse I was always having to pick it up and move it over lest it fall right off the desk.  This device does not have to be “charged” like my previous mouse.  It just runs on its own batteries.  No more of the not-working-because-I-didn’t-sit-it-in-its-base-correctly! So I am so happy to say that I now have a trackball and I love it. I haven’t had a trackball for over twenty years and I really missed having one. They are so awesome.

While I am sure you are all riveted by this story, the reason I am posting it is because I am curious:

What do you think? Have you ever used a trackball? Do you prefer a mouse or a trackball?
