This is a short month, so we won’t even be getting a full thirty days. And if you are like me and you miss a couple of days that you’ll be getting less, but I still think there is benefit from doing something daily. Even if it is MOST days and not EVERY day. What do you think? I guess it depends on what you decided to make your Daily 10 Minute Practice. But . . . I am gonna keep going. What about you?

Going On Five Years Of Good Things
Posted by terrepruitt on February 6, 2017
We are doing our Goodie Jar again this year. Right now it is a divided bowl. On one side there is paper which we can write the good things on and pens. On the other side is where we are putting our notes. It is getting full. At the end of last year it seemed like we were not adding many good things. It probably didn’t help that my dad died and we were shocked and thrust into having to do a lot of things we had never thought of and things that took up a lot of time and energy. But also it could be that the goodie jar got overlooked. Like many of us, my husband is a creature of habit and he claims his habit, regarding the good things jar, consists of it looking like it did when we very FIRST did it and having it be in the same exact spot. And for ME, that is an overlooking type of habit. With the pitcher in the same spot all year long – for me, it tends to blend into the surroundings and I don’t see it. Ya know, like that item that you have to take to your friend the next time you meet, so you put it near the door. But after a week you begin to ignore it. You don’t really see it there any longer, it blends into the surroundings. So when you finally leave the house to meet your friend you totally forget the item. Having it there was supposed to remind you, but it became so normal for it to be there, it did nothing to help you remember. So I like to switch it up. I like to change the vessel that holds the good things. I thought keeping it on the peninsula in the kitchen was good because we would see it. And with it being different it would attract our attention. Well, at the end of the year it got kinda over shone by other Christmas decorations. So this year we started out with it on the coffee table in the living room. It is pretty in our faces. But as I said, it is getting full.
I am trying to decide what to do. I am trying to decide on something else to keep the notes in. Or I might just move some of the notes into another vessel and keep using the bowl for now. I have so many pretty dishes that are seldom used so having them out with good things in them makes me happy. I might move it off the coffee table for now. If so, I do plan on moving it back during the year so that it is in our faces and we remember. Sometimes it is easier to remember to make a note of a good thing. Sometime it is helpful if there is a reminder or a prompt.
Either way, I am happy to continue this little project that we started years ago. This will be our fifth year. For us we put anything any it that makes us smile. I think I saw my hubby put a receipt from dinner in there. I don’t know what he wrote, but I am guessing it had to do with the nice dinner we had. I was going to put a Dove chocolate wrapper in there. They have sayings on them, so I saved it and I was going to write on it, but it got mistaken for trash and thrown away. But the idea is that you can put whatever you want in your jar.
When I was commenting about it on a friend’s post someone asked if I date my notes. Sometimes I do. Like the other day when I was excited we had 18 people in Nia and 16 people in stretch class. I put the date on that note. But when I was looking at my cats and happy that they are so sweet and I feel lucky to have them, I wrote a note about it, but I didn’t date it. A receipt or a ticket stub is going to have a date, but a candy wrapper would not. It is whatever you want. However you want to document the things that make you smile now and that will make you smile when you read them at the end of the year.
I am thankful to my friend Uptown Girl Denver for posting the practice on her Facebook page back in 2013. I don’t think she is doing it any longer, but we are still enjoying the practice.
Are you doing a Goodie Jar this year? What do you use for your “jar”? What do you use for your notes?

Day Six Of Your Daily Ten Minute Practice
Posted by terrepruitt on February 6, 2017
So here it is day six. How are you doing? While I want to say I hope you are doing better than me, I don’t want to make it a bad thing if you miss some days of your Daily 10 Minute Practice. . . . . like I did. 🙂 I mean things come up. But I am going to work to get back at it.
So I am sticking with . . . how are YOU doing?

Day Four Of Your Daily Ten Minute Practice
Posted by terrepruitt on February 4, 2017
This is the fourth day of your Daily 10 Minute Practice. WHAT you are doing is up to you. And you are not necessarily posting WHAT you are doing here . . . you can if you want, I would love to hear. But I don’t want to put anyone on the spot. This is the check-in spot for having done what you want to do. So when I ask about how you are feeling, I am not asking if you feel more relaxed, or have bigger muscles or more flexibility or a more space in your home . . . because with most things 40 minutes might not make that big of a difference. BUT . . . . having done something for four days in a row, meeting that challenge might have you feeling good. It might have you recognizing that it is not really that difficult to carve out ten minutes. It might have you encouraged to keep going so that you WILL see gains in your chosen practice.
So . . . how are you feeling?

Not Quite A Capture Of The Beauty I Saw
Posted by terrepruitt on February 3, 2017
For me, since I am not a photographer and I don’t take breath taking pictures, what I do take just doesn’t convey the beauty I am trying to capture. But hopefully you can see it as pretty. But it was really beautiful. Especially since we hadn’t seen sun for a few days . . . which for us, in the Bay Area is an unusual occurrence. I do love the rain, but this was a beautiful sight.
Here is my latest Friday Photo.

Posted by terrepruitt on February 2, 2017
On Thursdays I teach Nia at 9:00 am, then at 10:15 am I teach a stretch class, so I will probably be doing my Daily 10 Minute Practice after my morning classes. I want to get it done before the yoga class I teach at 6:00 pm. I am putting this hear so that when you have completed your 10 minutes today you can comment.
Day two, how are you doing?

Chicken and Vegetables Stir Fry
Posted by terrepruitt on February 1, 2017
As I have said over and over, I tend to cook the same things over and over. It is so much easier to just cook what you know than to have to do something new. Half the annoyance with doing something new is shopping for it or making sure that you have it. But I decided to cook a stir-fry. Not that I haven’t cooked it before or not that I don’t stir-fry meat and veggies. But this time I decided to try to give it that stir-fry flavor. Ya know, I really just wanted to use the cornstarch. So, last week I made stir-fry chicken and veggies. My hubby liked it. I will make it again, but next time I will plan better.
This time I thought I had planned well. I spent an hour cutting up the meat and making the marinade and cutting up all the veggies BEFORE I went to teach my evening yoga class. I thought I would come home and cook it up fast. But it took longer than I thought. I had meticulously planned on how I was going to cook the veggies. The idea is to cook the ones that take the longest to cook first. Now we might not agree on cooking times because I like my mushrooms a little caramelized . . . and my carrots, broccoli, and bell peppers a little raw.
When I cut up the veggies I put them in the bowl in the order in which I would cook them. So while I was driving home from class I was thinking about throwing the stuff in the pan in the order in which I put them in the bowl. Then it dawned on me that I had not even thought about when to cook the chicken. That threw a little wrench in my wok. 😉 I ended up cooking the mushrooms and chicken in one pan while the remaining veggies cooked in another. It was just faster. So here is what I did:
_______________________
Chicken and Vegetables Stir Fry
1 tablespoon + 2 teaspoons cornstarch
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup soy sauce
2 tablespoon brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon powdered ginger
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 cup rice vinegar
1 tablespoon teriyaki sauce
1 + lb chicken breast
2 tablespoons olive oil
garlic salt
1/4 onion
6 mushrooms
1 small baby bok choy
2 bunches of broccoli
4 small carrots
handful of snow peas
1 bell pepper (red)
rice
Mix the cornstarch in the water. Stir until it is completely dissolved. In a dish that will fit all the chicken, add the cornstarch water, the soy sauce, the brown sugar, the ginger, garlic powder, vinegar, and the teriyaki. Mix it up. Cut the chicken into about bite sized pieces. You want to cut them up so they are all about the same size so the cook evenly. Put the chicken in the dish with the marinade. Put the dish aside.
After you wash the veggies. Chop the onion. Slice the mushrooms. Cut up the baby bok choy. Chop up the broccoli. Slice the carrots. (I just sliced the ones I had because they were small, so they were little rounds). Slice the snow peas. Chop up the bell pepper. Decide which veggie you like cooked the most and start cook them first.
I cooked the mushrooms first. I put a tablespoon of oil in the pan. Let it heat. Then added the onions. Cook the onions. Then add the mushrooms. Add some garlic salt. When the mushrooms are almost cooked to your liking add the chicken. Add some of the marinade.
When the chicken is almost half of the way cooked, heat up the olive oil in another pan. Then when the chicken is half cooked put the bottom part, the white part of the baby bok choy in the pan (the one with out the chicken and mushrooms). Then add the broccoli. Add some of the marinade to the pan. Add the top (the green part) of the baby bok choy. Let things cook a minute.* Then add the snow peas. Add more marinade. Let it cook a bit. Then add the carrots. I don’t like cooked bell peppers so I add them last.
*In between the veggies cooking add almost all of the marinade to the chicken and mushrooms. Save just a little to use for cooking the veggies.
Make sure you cook the marinade with the chicken or vegetables. Since the raw chicken was sitting in it you don’t want to pour it over your rice without it having been cooked.
Once everything is cooked to your liking serve it over rice.

My pictures show all the veggies in two bowls, that is because I prepped everything, then had to leave to teach yoga. I would not have piled everything in bowls if I were just prepping and cooking.
I loved all the veggies in this dish. This might not be a typical stir fry. Not even sure what that is. But it was good. We will be having it again!
What do you think? Does it sound good? Does it look good?

Day One Of Your Ten Minute Practice
Posted by terrepruitt on February 1, 2017
So here it is, some of you are early birds and you might have finished your Daily 10 Minute Practice. So you’ve marked off your calendar. I can’t decide what I want to concentrate on. There are so many things I should be doing I am not sure which one to do daily. I want to have a focus. So I am still thinking, but perhaps you have your plan.
Here is the place to comment.
I hope some of you participate. I have one friend that is going to give it a go for two weeks. That is a good idea. Giving it a try for a couple of weeks. We will see how it goes for us!
