Tea Favorites

Posted by terrepruitt on March 17, 2017

Ahh, these are two teas that I love.  I have been drinking more tea than coffee lately.  I am not a morning person so on days I teach Nia I usually just get up in time enough to play with the cats for a bit, figure out what I am teaching in Nia (if I haven’t done it the night before), and get ready and go.  I don’t get up early enough to sit have breakfast and a cup of coffee.  Since on most days I either teach yoga or stretch right after Nia, I don’t get home until after noon.  And if I have errands to run it is even later in the day.  For me drinking coffee that late is just not good – it doesn’t allow me to get to bed in the same day that I got up.  So I drink decaffeinated tea.  There are two of my favorites.  I cannot say whether they actually help with my immune system or stress, but I like them.  Although, my dad had a lot of tea so recently I have actually been drinking some of the ones he had.  One is a Chai, which has caffeine.  And the other is Ginger, which is decaffeinated, and rather nice.  These are still two of my favs.

Tea for my Friday Photo.  Do you have a favorite tea?  What is it?

Eureka! I’ve Got It!

Posted by terrepruitt on March 15, 2017

‘Tis the season, if you live in California it is citrus season. Everywhere you go someone is giving away oranges and/or lemons. I recently brought a bag of lemons to my Nia class to give to my students. One of my students asked me what kind of lemons they were and I said they were Meyer Lemons. Then she said, “Oh, I thought they (Meyers) had thin skin and tasted less lemony and more citrusy.” We talked a bit more because she had had lemons from my tree before so she was saying that they were not like Meyer Lemons she knew. She said that Meyers tasted more citrusy, like an orange. And I said, that Meyer lemons were a cross between and orange and lemon so that makes sense. She said our lemons didn’t taste like that. So, then I told her I didn’t know what they were. I had always thought they were Meyer lemons, but if she said Meyer lemons were different from these then they were not Meyers. But I did not know. So . . . . I had to come home and look it up. I think our lemons are Eureka Lemons.

Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia in the City of San Jose, Nia classes in the South Bay, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, San Jose Nia, Nia San Jose, Nia workout, Nia, Gentle Yoga, Group Ex classes, YMCA, Zumba, Nia Technique, SJ City Fit, SJCityFitMeyer lemons tend to be less acidic and sour, they are sweeter than a regular lemon. Meyer lemons are generally smaller than eureka lemons. They have thin skin and not a large mesocarp or pith.  And according to an article on SFGate, the trees are not even classified as true lemon trees. The Meyer lemons are a cross between a lemon and an orange. Either an orange or a tangerine. They originated in China. According to Wiki, in the mid-1940’s after the lemons were commonly grown in California it was discovered that most of the trees had a virus. Since this virus had been responsible for killing and leaving citrus trees all over the world unable to produce fruit, the trees in the United States were destroyed. A new generation of Meyer lemon trees were release in the 1950’s.

Our lemons have a very thick pith, sometimes about a fourth of an inch. Some of the lemons are really big. Some of them are so large that one of my friends asked me if they were pomellos. I didn’t know what a pomello was so I had to look that up. Not all of the lemons are as large as pomellos and they do not taste sweet nor like grapefruit. Our lemons DO taste pretty lemony, as in they are pretty sour.

Both eureka lemons and Meyer lemons can be used in food and products interchangeable, but with the eureka lemon you will get a more sour taste than with the more sweet flavored Meyer lemon.  So you would use them accordingly, depending on what you wanted.

Which is your favorite lemon?

Cats, Crazy, Valentine’s Day

Posted by terrepruitt on February 13, 2017

You may have read somewhere on my blog that we have two cats.  You may have read somewhere on my blog that we had ONE cat.  It took me over a year to even think about getting another cat.  Notice I said CAT.  So when I finally got to a point where I was entertaining the idea of getting A CAT . . . it was really hard to be faced with the idea of getting TWO.  The one I wanted came as a pair.  Now, I still would opt for ONE cat as opposed to two, but that will not happen because there is no way we would get rid of either one.  Although, I am still learning about two cats.  It is not easy having two cats.  I had always heard that cats did not like change, that cats liked to have the same thing to eat – all the time.  But lately I hear they get bored and want something else.  So when our “big” cat doesn’t bother me for dinner, then when I put it out she barely touches it, I think she is bored.

So then I spend hours on the internet trying to find a food.  Because I am picky.  I prefer grain free and limited ingredients and you may have read somewhere on my blog that our last cat did not like fish.  So, I have never researched any cat food with fish until these two.  They like fish.  Once I find something I will feed them on the internet, I used to buy it, but now I have to go find it at a store because I would rather buy a CAN as opposed to a case (and only cases can be purchased on the internet).  Because apparently only ONE kind of food with fish will do, so I don’t want to buy a whole case and be stuck with it. The little one will eat different kinds, but it seems the “big” one likes ONE kind.  Even though she may seem bored she won’t eat anything else.  Sigh.

Today I was trying to put together a Valentine’s Day routine for my Nia class tomorrow after spending a bit of time looking for new food for the cats.  Then I give it to them and the picky one does not like it and spends the next two hours telling me about her dissatisfaction.  Poor girl.  It is sad because if it were the little one, I probably would have opened another cat food.  But since it was the one who could stand to lose a pound, I just look at her and say, “You have dry food if you don’t want to eat your wet food.  Sorry, Girl.”  Man, why did I bother?  Didn’t get as far as I’d have like on the routine and I felt as if I wasted my time.

Cats are crazy.  But really, it is probably humans that are crazy to try to live with such amazing creatures.  🙂  So will you tell me about feeding two cats?  What do you feed your cats?  And how do you get one to slim down but not the other?  What are your feeding practices?  Do your cats tell you when it is time to feed them?  I know this is a lot of questions, but, I want to know these things.

Day Thirteen Of Your Daily Ten Minute Practice

Posted by terrepruitt on February 13, 2017

Ahh, I usually have Mondays off, but today I am subbing a class.  I will be teaching Nia when there is regularly Pilates.  I thought I would try Nia at the community center because this is the community center where I once taught gentle yoga and they wanted to know what Nia was.  Hopefully those that enjoyed the demo will show up and enjoy an entire hour of Nia.  So instead of Pilates at the Almaden Community Center today it will be Nia at 9:15am!

I will do my Daily 10 Minute Practice, after I get home.  We are on day thirteen.  When will you do yours?

Day Twelve Of Your Daily Ten Minute Practice

Posted by terrepruitt on February 12, 2017

Here we are day twelve of the Daily 10 Minute Practice.  Here is where you post your comment.  I don’t know if I will doing my “practice” before or after I teach Nia.  Today (Sunday, February 12, 2017) is my day to teach Nia at the NW YMCA in Cupertino.  There are three of us Nia teachers that teach the Sunday class on a rotating basis.  It is nice to have a Sunday class, but nice to not have to teach it every Sunday.  Perhaps I will see you there.

When are you going to do your 10 minutes?

Day Eight Of Your Daily Ten Minute Practice

Posted by terrepruitt on February 8, 2017

This is day eight of the Daily 10 Minute Practice, are you still with me?  I am just going to have faith that there are people out there doing it, but they are too busy or shy to comment.  I am keeping the faith that someone is using the calendar (besides me) that I made.  I have a Nia Class and a Yoga Class this morning, but I will comment when I get my 10 minutes in!

Going On Five Years Of Good Things

Posted by terrepruitt on February 6, 2017

We are doing our Goodie Jar again this year.  Right now it is a divided bowl.  On one side there is paper which we can write the good things on and pens.  On the other side is where we are putting our notes.  It is getting full.  At the end of last year it seemed like we were not adding many good things.  It probably didn’t help that my dad died and we were shocked and thrust into having to do a lot of things we had never thought of and things that took up a lot of time and energy.  But also it could be that the goodie jar got overlooked.  Like many of us, my husband is a creature of habit and he claims his habit, regarding the good things jar, consists of it looking like it did when we very FIRST did it and having it be in the same exact spot.  And for ME, that is an overlooking type of habit.  With the pitcher in the same spot all year long – for me, it tends to blend into the surroundings and I don’t see it.  Ya know, like that item that you have to take to your friend the next time you meet, so you put it near the door.  But after a week you begin to ignore it.  You don’t really see it there any longer, it blends into the surroundings.  So when you finally leave the house to meet your friend you totally forget the item.  Having it there was supposed to remind you, but it became so normal for it to be there, it did nothing to help you remember.  So I like to switch it up.  I like to change the vessel that holds the good things.  I thought keeping it on the peninsula in the kitchen was good because we would see it.  And with it being different it would attract our attention.  Well, at the end of the year it got kinda over shone by other Christmas decorations.  So this year we started out with it on the coffee table in the living room.  It is pretty in our faces.  But as I said, it is getting full.

Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia in the City of San Jose, Nia classes in the South Bay, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, San Jose Nia, Nia San Jose, Nia workout, Nia, Gentle Yoga, Group Ex classes, YMCA, Zumba, Nia Technique, SJ City Fit, SJCityFitI am trying to decide what to do.  I am trying to decide on something else to keep the notes in.  Or I might just move some of the notes into another vessel and keep using the bowl for now.  I have so many pretty dishes that are seldom used so having them out with good things in them makes me happy.  I might move it off the coffee table for now.  If so, I do plan on moving it back during the year so that it is in our faces and we remember.  Sometimes it is easier to remember to make a note of a good thing.  Sometime it is helpful if there is a reminder or a prompt.

Either way, I am happy to continue this little project that we started years ago.  This will be our fifth year.  For us we put anything any it that makes us smile.  I think I saw my hubby put a receipt from dinner in there.  I don’t know what he wrote, but I am guessing it had to do with the nice dinner we had.  I was going to put a Dove chocolate wrapper in there.  They have sayings on them, so I saved it and I was going to write on it, but it got mistaken for trash and thrown away.  But the idea is that you can put whatever you want in your jar.

When I was commenting about it on a friend’s post someone asked if I date my notes.  Sometimes I do.  Like the other day when I was excited we had 18 people in Nia and 16 people in stretch class.  I put the date on that note.  But when I was looking at my cats and happy that they are so sweet and I feel lucky to have them, I wrote a note about it, but I didn’t date it.  A receipt or a ticket stub is going to have a date, but a candy wrapper would not.  It is whatever you want.  However you want to document the things that make you smile now and that will make you smile when you read them at the end of the year.

I am thankful to my friend Uptown Girl Denver for posting the practice on her Facebook page back in 2013.  I don’t think she is doing it any longer, but we are still enjoying the practice.

Are you doing a Goodie Jar this year?  What do you use for your “jar”?  What do you use for your notes?

Day Two Of Your Daily Ten Minute Practice

Posted by terrepruitt on February 2, 2017

On Thursdays I teach Nia at 9:00 am, then at 10:15 am I teach a stretch class, so I will probably be doing my Daily 10 Minute Practice after my morning classes.  I want to get it done before the yoga class I teach at 6:00 pm.  I am putting this hear so that when you have completed your 10 minutes today you can comment.

Day two, how are you doing?

Happy New Year – 2017

Posted by terrepruitt on January 2, 2017

Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia in the City of San Jose, Nia classes in the South Bay, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, San Jose Nia, Nia San Jose, Nia workout, Nia, Gentle Yoga, Group Ex classes, YMCA, Zumba, Nia Technique, SJ City Fit, SJCityFitSo, Happy New Year, huh?  Yeah!  Let’s just make it a good year.  There is always going to be stuff going on that we can focus on to make it a “bad” year, but let’s not focus on that.  Let’s just decide it is going to be a good year and make it be a good year.  Well, again, I have that whole “thing” with years and days and the like being “bad” or “good”.  They actually just are.  It is the moments IN the year/day.  The moments that make up the year that one might label “bad” or “good”, but to label the entire length of time bad or good, is just not something I do.  So . . . let’s make a lot of fun, exciting, smile-worthy moments in 2017!

We shall have so many smile-worthy moments that when something happens that makes us sad or upset we will be able to face it better.  We can make it through and not have it turn us into permanent mush.  I mean sometimes things will happen in life where you might need to take some time to be “mush” – not doing anything, and just process the situation.  But I don’t think it is good to stay mush.  There are too many good things in life to just be a pile of mush.  So, if there are a lot of experiences that have created smiles AND things to come that will create smiles it is easier to get through the mush times.

Dance Exercise, Nia, Nia in the City of San Jose, Nia classes in the South Bay, Nia Teacher, Nia Class, San Jose Nia, Nia San Jose, Nia workout, Nia, Gentle Yoga, Group Ex classes, YMCA, Zumba, Nia Technique, SJ City Fit, SJCityFitMy hubby and I read all the things in our Goodie Jar last night.  It was fun to be reminded of some of the smile-worthy moments.  I did forget about a lot of them, so it was wonderful to be reminded.

I’ve had a week off from my Nia, yoga, and stretch classes and I am ready to get back to them.  We are going to be moving and grooving into 2017.  We had a nice rain to help us get a clean start in the new year.  It is looking good!

I hope you had a nice Holiday Season.

I am wishing you a very

Happy, Healthy, and

WONDERFUL 2017!

Make it so!
